something a little different to how i usually build

i imagine a lot of this will be changing and appreciate any feedback. esp on how to get the rail viaduct to cross RHW-4 because i cant find a puzzle piece for the life of me!!!!!!!!

It's not going to cross the RHW4 diagonally. You'll have to have it cross at a straight section.

There aren't any railway over diagonal RHW route puzzle pieces yet. However, you could use a converter to convert railway to subway, and create an underpass instead.

i'd just stick all the railways in trenches and bypass the problem that way. if railways can't underpass a diagonal RHW then digging a tunnel is a trivial matter when your railways are already in trenches.

You could use a short stretch of avenue. This decreases the speed a little bit*, but is barely noticeable from the distance.

*rather by half as RHW has a speed of 140km/h and Avenue is limited to 70km/h or so I recall it.

I've never really taken the time to make an entire region, but now I felt I needed to change that. So I quickly made this master plan to get a general idea of how to approach this region.0JtHRKI.png

 

My approach is to build the surrounding suburbs first and then create the downtown areas afterwards so I have somewhere to channel the citizens. This way - I hope - I'll avoid having to redo the downtowns too many times to cope with the traffic. It's working somewhat decent albeit the regions isn't that populated yet.

 

Here's how it looks like right now:

Well, the plan for the island is a tourist area with some high wealth residents. I probably should have put the beaches and the buildings on the other side of the island though.

I'm also going to zone low destiny commerical just to have some shops and hopefully not get like 20 Deppise Diner or whatever it's called.

Although, while this picture was taken today, I did add more afterward. I added a casino, the police harbor by PEG(second one plopped, the first is also on the island but by the high wealth residential island), and did zone some commercial.

I'm a novice at this though so I dunno how well this will turn out :(

 

 The mods in this picture are SC Lifeguard, NDEX Pacifica Palm Hotel and Riverside College, SimGoober's Surfside Inn, Large Water Tower and one of the bus stops from his bus stop set, and PEG's Fire Harbor. There's also that thing from the Road Top Mass Transit that you plop before plopping the stuff. I was testing it out.

Actually I'm working on something that should similar the BASF Ludwigshafen at least a bit. You'll probably know that the BASF is biggest chemical producer worldwide and Ludwigshafen is the central an the biggest plant with 33.000 employees. I first tried to make a single transit enabled lot but as the BASF Ludwigshafen is like a small city with roads in between I changed my mind and made so far three different lots with overhanging props (pipes over street).

 

The three allready existing parts together look like this:

So far so good.

 

Now two things are missing.

 

1. The administration complex. I haven't the right building for that. If someone knows a bat that looks like this please tell me.

 

2. The freight station. The BASF Ludwigshafen has an own big freight station in the north between the facilities and the river. As I want to make it fit to the new RRW I'm working on the railyard textures. I asked Swordmaster for permission to use his original network textures he made for the NAM. I'm waiting for an answer now.

 

But probably I must do this without the administration complex. As I have only little experience with blender and don't know how to make 3d models of buildings. And I couldn't find a building that fits.

 

Any idear or suggestion would be highly apprechiated. Thank you.

 

 

(EDIT: There are plenty of animations – smoke and steam and ongoing work – on the lots. That's missing in the pictures.)

Cool...I don't play SC4 anymore but my 3rd largest city was Ludwigshafen/Mannheim (after Frankfurt and Koln).  I just kept the terrain, was not accurate with how the city looks.

 

This building reminded me of the headquarters  by IDS2.  There maybe others that resemble it a bit more but I'm not sure.

Progress on the Queen Mary. I cut corners by borrowing components from a SketchUp model. Now i'm paying the price by chopping down unnecessary features and replacing faces to cut back on the poly count.

That looks like a fairly small region. Do you think you could tell us what each of the colors represent?

 

 

Black = 6 Lane Highway

Blue = 4 Lane Highway

Red = Rail

Green = Basic Avenues

 

It is 2 x 2 Big tiles. I am taking it slowly. Normally I will rush into a huge region, but I want to build my region as I go along, instead of having something huge to deal with. Once I have finished this city, I'll go and do something similar 5 or 6 big tiles away, and then link the two cities with RHW, railways and start building rural villages/towns in between. It is by far the biggest project I have done on Sim City as of yet :P
