Not sure if this is a new error, or has anything to do with

As a temporary workaround, you could try this

CYCLONE BOOMAGE!!! man you are da man! i man Da STORM! will give it a go! Hey thanks man!

Will submit a feature using Cyclone Boom's alternate option.

For now, I guess you could PM one of us staff, or another member not part of the Batting School. The feature could then be submitted on your behalf.
This would work by providing the same details as on the submission form:

Feature Title *
The title of the feature

Subtitle *
A subtitle or caption. 80 characters.

Author Name
The name of the member associated with this feature.
This optional field could be filled in with your display name.

Feature Link *
The URL for the feature.

Feature Image *
The image will be resized and cropped to 700 x 350. (JPG/PNG)
Upload this to an image host (e.g. imgur) and post in the PM. It could then be downloaded and re-uploaded to the form.

When submitting the feature on your behalf, I'm afraid I encountered the exact same error. Not sure if it got through.

A little over a week ago, I submitted to the Omnibus an article amalgamating some of the posts I had made in various threads dealing with getting an SC4 installation running under Wine in Mac OS.  I haven't seen anything since getting an initial message saying it first needed to be reviewed by an admin.  Would anybody else know anything about this?

Also, with regard to submitting an article, the 2nd text box on the page (Body) only seems to accept HTML code.  It's like this in Chrome, Firefox and IE.  Just wondering if maybe that had something to do with it.

Re: Features

I got the same error last week, but my feature did indeed go through. Just for those wondering about it.

I'm not sure if this is the case everytime, but it did make it through last time.

The message you received does indicate the submission was successful. So unless something has got messed up, it should have got through.

Hope you've made a copy though, just in case. ;)

If it doesn't appear in a couple of days, then probably worth sending a PM to one of the admins to investigate.

I'm not exactly sure of the approval process, but I guess articles must be checked and examined. It might work similar to the news articles and home page features, which I believe are managed by Dirk.

As for the text box, this was mentioned It does seem like the editor is defaulting to HTML Mode, without any option to disable it.

In future, my post below (see link) should work for a temporary workaround.

I'm trying to 'Add a feature' in home page but when I click on it goes to an Error page saying I have not permission for that. I added features some months ago and it was normal. Someone knows what's happening?

Something else I've noticed - If i click on my user profile pull-down at the top-right of the page, nothing graphical shows.  Interestingly enough, after I click on it (to turn it white), if I move my cursor over to where the menu links "should be", the cursor changes and I can click the link and it works.  It just doesn't show.

FWIW I'm running Safari 7.0.4.  I had been running Chrome but switched back as Safari generally seems to be faster and leaner.

Ive noticed similar if not the same.   What browser are you using again?  I am thinking a LOT of our problems  are whatever is going on with Internet Explorer.   I think i ve had some updates installed (manually) on I.E.10 and Foxfire  that may be conflicting with simtrop.

...What browser are you using again?

Safari (in Mac OS X).  It worked fine when I checked it from work, where I use Chrome (presumably the latest version, whatever that is) in Windows 7.

safari.png

Interestingly, I just checked the full version of the site from my phone and I get the same exact behavior - working invisible links.  This is with Chrome 35.0.1916.141 running on Android 4.4.2.  In other words Chrome's usability seems to be platform-dependent.

That happened to me with my omnibus submission from last November.  I contacted dirk after awhile and he said he was working on it but it never got posted.  I'm not poking to get it posted after all this time since the original is alive and well at simpeg; i just want to point out that the omnibus post going through might be a persistent technical issue and not a new issue.

I had the same problem too but now it seems it has been fixed.

I am on Firefox 30.0 and have noticed none of the three items above.  Perhaps we've had another DOS attack?

Just confirming that I have proper operation on my work computer (Win 7 Pro SP1) with Chrome 35.0.1916.153 m, Firefox 25.0.1, and now that it just updated itself, Firefox 30.0.  So far the common denominator seems to be Windows vs. non-Windows.

It does not work on IE 10.0.  The only difference is, this time clicking on the username takes you to the profile page, which doesn't happen with the other fails.

I can confirm too that i get the issues while using I.E. 10.   I will re run anothre update on FoxFire to see if i get the 30.0 update. I will reboot and see if i did in fact get updated to 30.0 but not yet taken hold.  I am on windows 8 and have been holding off upgrading to 8.1 due to reported issues as well.

Funny you didn't get the update to FF30.  With me, its automatic but that's Ubuntu for you.

Japanese and other character sets are not a feature of the site but of your local computer and your locale setting.

I can view the characters no problem in the post above, but not on your journal page. Maybe because it's in the title and browsers don't like that for some reason.

Tested with Firefox, Chrome and IE with the same result.

If it helps anyone, here's some info on the two characters:

I don't have problems with Japanese characters and adding features and I'm using Opera. Yes, opera. I'm a little bit the naive type. :)

On Kisa Atsuko's journal page, it seems to be happening only to the topic titles and links, which have been replaced with "" or "??" depending on encoding, but not to text within posts themselves. Additionally, it is only happening with some characters, but not to others.

It suspiciously resembles a character bug reported on the Invision Power Board forums where the common characters 正 キ ロ 中 止 ム were found by a user to not show in topic titles on their forum running IP.Board 3.1.2 and UTF-8. I cannot find a follow-up for this 2010 bug report, so I cannot point to if or how it was resolved. A similar issue happened to someone using the Arabic character ح in a topic with IP.Board 3.4.6, which is the same board version as Simtropolis. Seems there are lots of character encoding quirks and glitches that international forums have to iron out on an individual basis.

You don't suppose it might have something to do with the font (face and size) used for the titles, do you?  This would be an error in the construction of the font.

I can't seem to get into the ST chat all of a sudden. I was there a few days ago, and to my knowledge I haven't made any changes to my browser or Flash, which both are the latest version. Instead of loading Flash to display the chat, it stops for a while and then says:

"This application requires Flash.
Please install the latest Flash Player from Adobe: Download"

I have Flash activated and it is the latest version. I've tried with the browser in safe-mode.

I've also tried accessing it from another computer of mine (running GNU/Linux instead of Windows 7) with the same error. The browser is Firefox (though different versions) on both occations. In IE the login window won't display, so I can't try it there. Any ideas what might be causing it?

Just tested it.  I can't get into chat either.  It just hangs with a blank page.  Firefox 31.0 with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Firefox gives me a blank screen quite often when I want to get in to the chat. Chrome never has this, but on PCs where Chrome is not installed, I have to switch back to Internet Explorer (ew!)
