No idea if this has already been reported, but there is some weird bug with the max. filesize of attachment per post. IIRC at some point it was up to 700 k, went down to the 300 k range a few days ago, then today I saw the limitation going down to 65 k and now it's down to a ridiculous 9.59 k.

Simply put, each time I attach a file to a post the upload limit becomes lower. Using Firefox & Win 7, if that helps.

Each account has a set 500KB storage quota as far as I'm aware, which can be managed via this page in your UserCP. The max single filesize should be equal to the remaining quota, which will decrease every time a new file is uploaded. This means you could upload a single file that's equal to the amount remaining.

As SimCoug suggested, an external host is a better option for large files.

User space on the ST server is limited to 500K per user.  If you want more space use a photo site or dropbox.

Welp, I've noticed that some posts are bold, though the last time I've checked, they are normal. Easter egg? :P

We were participating in the one day petition movement.

Tsk.  I added it to my adblock+ exclusions.

Hate to report an issue the day after, but Norton security is calling Simtropolis "a suspicious website" (eg, phishing), which I know it's not.

Suspicious website?

In that case, probably best to report this to Symantec as a false positive. It's more their problem than ST's. ;)

Strange though as I'm also using Norton and haven't received such an alert. Is your product fully updated?

Possibly the addition of the pop-up anti-NSA garbage caused this.

I think the anti-NSA banner was a good thing. And if it doesn't interest you, you can close it. No big deal, especially since it was just for a day, so no reason to make a fuss.

Another thing, every external link on this site seems to lead to a adf.ly ad-page first. I guess this is intentional and not a bug, but it is quite annoying.

Petitions and such things are useless nonsense.  All they do is provide an ego stroke for whoever takes part in them.

Being apathic and doing nothing is probably more effective and useful, you're right.

Petitions aren't always useful, but they have the merit of making more people aware there is a problem. And maybe people who have the ability to solve things will see that and react.

If you say nothing you'll never now.

There may be some truth in what you say, but the White House does nothing unless the number of signatures reaches 100,000.  I don't count because I am not in the U.S.

I have some security involvement, and I can safely say that security organizations ignore public pressures of any kind.  It takes legislation to affect them, and getting such secret measures passed is always problematical and you never know if it has been done.  High security stuff is more arcane than most people even dream of, and if I told you any more than this, I'd have to do away with you.

Doesn't link to an ad for me.  :meh:

A problem I have encountered the last days... at some hours (during the early night for me, afternoon in the US I think) the forum becomes really really slow. Is this due to some server limitations when there is too much activity ????

This isn't a virus, it's just a  method IPboard is offering to make money from link which are going to some selected external sites:

This is just a way to provide some more money to keep ST free.

Had a sneeking suspicion of something like that.. and it is total random I guess? (seeing as it didn't link an ad Cool_Z)

I guess we can learn to live with that as long as ST survives

Currently my status update has 29 comments, and clicking on 'show all comments' reveals blank space. This happens in Safari and Firefox on a MacBook Pro running 10.9.1, all software up to date.

This happens regardless of how I try to display the comments (straight form the update, from the 'view all updates' page, and from my user profile page).

Serious problems with Internet Explorer 11.

Has anyone tested the site with IE11/Win8.1? A big disappointment. Can't paste into the "Reply to this topic" box, dialogs (eg editing a URL) can't be closed, and there are quite a few other issues which I can't remember right now.

Are there any "recommended settings" or IE11 is simply "not supported"? Could anyone answer please?

I know generally IE has much less support than other browsers due to low popularity. IE 11 on Win7 also has the same issues you describe.

I notice that a number of links to outside websites have been broken due to the addition of a community.simtropolis.com/ prefix to the url, which of course results in a nonexistent webpage. Any thoughts as to why, or is this related to the ad.fly comments above? Needless to say the links don't work until you remove the prefix.

Having encountered this as well, I eventually found that IE11 is simply not supported, and has been broken for lots of forum communities since the released version of IE11 came out.  Microsoft changed a lot of under-the-hood functioning in IE11 claiming greater security by inoculating our clipboards, and insists that nothing is wrong or that it is now up to third-party vendors and individual forum board administrators to update their third-party software, such as the popular CKEditor and IP.Board.  I'm not even sure if there even are updated forum software versions already released yet, though there seems to be a temporary manual workaround that must be manually coded into the forum templates by administrators.  There is not much end-users can do to restore normally functioning forum accessibility to their clipboards short of switching browsers, which may or may not always be an available option given the ownership of the computer or the privileges of the user.

What can be done by end-users for this forum is to temporarily set the editor to "BBCode Mode" using the top-leftmost editor button.  You may then still be able to cut-paste in that mode, and you can quickly switch between modes as needed to make edits.  I haven't found a means to restore quote functioning other than copy-pasting the wanted text in BBCode Mode and then format them by surrounding them with QUOTE tags.

Whatever you do, no not use the normal editor buttons to bring up the editor dialog pop-ups for inserting URLs for links or images, as the summoned dialog pop-ups in IE11 are completely non-functional and can only be closed by closing down the entire browser window.  Many thanks to the editor's autosave feature for rescuing lots of my posts that were nearly lost to this Microsoft-made fiasco.  Again, try to enable the BBCode Mode to paste links, and then surround them with IMG, URL, or MEDIA tags.
