Well, all I did was press the quote button. 

 

Also, did you notice the quote icon in the formatting bar, it is the 7th from the right.  It can be used for other quotes than messages.

 

Maybe its a problem with your browser.  What are you running.  This is firefox 25.0.1

I have trouble accessing the website on my laptop. I can reach the domain simtropolis.com without any trouble, but when I try to reach the subdomain community.simtropolis.com I get an error 522 (connection timed out). I get an screen from cloudflare (?) Indicating I can reach the cloudflare server in Amsterdam, but it cannot connect to the simtropolis server. This happens independent of my browser (tried chrome, ie and firefox), and happens only to Simtropolis. This has been going on for roughly a month, and I've never been able to connect during this time. I'm currently posting this from my phone.

Any idea what is going on? I'd really like to get back to reading about New Sogrun

EDIT: I don't know if you guys did anything, but now it is working again!

I've noticed this occasionally, which tends to be on an intermittent basis. Usually normal service is resumed within 5 or so minutes, so don't panic. When it does happen, rest assured you're probably not the only one. The Simtropolis Status page provides a good indication of performance and downtime. It might be useful to bookmark this link for future reference.

@Mr Saturn64 -- Ack, seems you are not the only one...I had not fully realized that I cannot seem to quote posts either using the "MultiQuote" and "Quote" buttons, and as I am only an intermittent poster, I suspect this may have been going on for some time fairly recently.  Also, I can no longer cut/copy/paste into the reply field, as if nothing is going to the clipboard.  Next, the insert image and insert link pop-ups when used immediately becomes unresponsive and cannot be closed after I paste an address into it, forcing me to reload the page or close the window.  Gee, actually, the entire reply box is quirky....right-clicking in the reply field is often just unresponsive or blocks out my cursor, while left-clicking sometimes disappears the cursor as well.

 

Okay, what has changed?  Ah ha, seems Internet Explorer 11 (Version 11.0.9600.16476) for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems was pushed/updated onto this computer on December 3, which is about in line with how I vaguely remember my message replies becoming more difficult to compose.  This computer was previously using IE 10....it was also supposed to notify and ask for permission before making such a big change.  Thank you, Microsoft, for making me have to battle just to put a cursor into a text box!

 

At least I can still post and edit simple messages, or type in the code to add image or links.

Is there an option to change the date and time format used on ST? All other forums I've ever used have had that, and I've grown quite tired of trying to grasp the concept of which is which when it comes to AM/PM and having to read dates backwards. So, unless there's an option to change the preferred time and date format I'd consider it a bug or issue.

I can stand day/month/year, but not the AM/PM part. My preferred format would be yyyy-mm-dd HH:mm, but dd/mm/yyyy HH:mm is fine too. I'm just asking for the option of a 24h clock.

Well now, that's clearer.  Just took a look a my profile and there doesn't seem to be anything.  So, when you are looking at the time you'll just have to cope.  Ignore AM, and add 12 for PM.

 

I switch units of measure as the context requires generally.  I used to be FPS but now I am MKS, and I do prefer SI dates, but one has to cope with such things as are sent to try us.  My kids grew up totally MKS just at the time when Canada was enforcing it in schools, so they have no idea what a quart or a gallon is.

We do our best to only use advertisements that are in general good taste. Obviously its hard to keep that balance right, so if you have an issue with the advertisements would you mind taking a screenshot of those that you feel are inappropriate along with the date, time and your time zone and Message an administrator.

An update...

Microsoft did indeed change the way certain settings worked in Internet Explorer 11 such that it is not really compatible with IP.Boards, leaving many of the forum's editor options non-functional within IE11. Microsoft seems to think their special little changes somehow enhance security and that the non-functionality means it is working as intended, and so leave it up to website developers to conform to Microsoft's deliberate mistakes. Instead of a fix from Microsoft, IE users are instructed to direct website developers to implement the necessary changes at their end. Seriously, "instructed" and "directed" are the applicable terms! At the same time, Microsoft pushed IE 11 as an automated update onto its unsuspecting users. What an evil, insidious, sclerotic corporation. In Obeisance to the Overlords, I'll mention for the website developers out there that IPS seems to have come up with a solution to IP.Boards and CKEditor has updated their text editor such that they restore their functionality in IE11.

A rough workaround for us sad IE users is to press the editor button to enable the "BBCodeMode." This turns off the text editor's other button functions, but, it does allow us to at least cut and paste into the text box and afterwards type in our own formatting code. IE11 users can also use the F12 Developer Tools and change their document mode from "Edge" to a lower, more compatible version of IE, but, this is only temporary and cumbersome, and IE's Compatibility View will not make this setting permanent for simtropolis.com, as Microsoft doesn't think there is a compatibility problem with simtropolis.com not functioning within their browser. Remember, it is not working as intended!

A more permanent workaround, of course, will be to just change browsers and be done with it. Ugh...I hate wasting time working on the computer to keep it working just so I can get back to work wasting time on computer games, but, if that's what it takes... Arrg, I had time to BAT today, and instead I spent that time researching why my browser couldn't cut-and-paste or put a cursor into a text box!

Hope this helps the few of us left needing to cut the rotting umbilical.

Seems the arrogance of the Marching Morons of Redmond, WA knows no bounds.  If it is not broken, don't fix it.  Security tweaks are one thing, but security freakism is generally bad.

This is one of the nuisances with IE. You can make a browser so secure that it loses basic functionality. It's one of the reasons why I no longer use it as my primary browser. Of course, this can give a false sense of security, and exploits will always be found one way or another. Also it's quite alarming about the number of blotched updates Microsoft are releasing. Often these "important" updates are causing more problems than they're worth. So if you've got the time, I'd recommend disabling auto installation for this reason.

 

For the issue described, it is possible to force Compatibility View for certain websites by following this article. Maybe this would be worth a shot until a proper solution is found.

 

By the way, it looks like there was a forum update yesterday as we're now running IP.Board 3.4.6. Apparently this was a maintenance update which fixed some misc bugs (changelog). Nothing really to get excited about, but there might be something new that helps this.

So I was just randomly clicking between the ads displayed on the website and there I found a bug (or an issue more likely):

 

 

Instead of loading the whole page to take me to the STEX collections, the ad instead loads it within the ad space of the site.

From Soundcloud, this is possible by clicking the Share button. A window will pop up. Then click the Embed tab and copy the embed code.

Next, back at ST, paste the code into your post. Then you'll then need to enable HTML Mode in the full editor. It does help to format your post before enabling this, as the editor will now show everything in code form.

 

Once your post has been previewed / submitted, the file should play as follows:

 

Here is the source link for this track as an example.  

 

Bandcamp looks a bit different as the music seems to be hosted on external sites. But try looking for a similar option to share the link using embedding code. It should work if the code is HTML (not sure about flash / JavaScript, I think we have these disabled for security).

Do you mean at the top?

This will be your last posted status update. When you create a new one it'll be displayed at the top, replacing any other ones. They can be managed from the Profile Feed page, including options to delete them. If all are deleted, the green box will disappear.

I've been attempting the embedded option before making this post, but all I get are just jumbles of words and characters when I attempt to preview it.

Try this:

 

1.  On the song's page, click the Share / Embed link.

 

2.  A window will slide open. Click Embed this album.

 

3.  Select a style of music player, preferably the smaller one.

 

4.  Configure any options and copy the embed code, for example:

 

 

 

5.  Paste this code into your post. It'll look something like this:

I would give you all the specs, but they've been rubbed out by my palm, and I can't read it. All I know is my dual graphics cards are a Radeon HD7640 G+, and a Radeon 7470M, 1gig.

No idea if this has already been reported, but there is some weird bug with the max. filesize of attachment per post. IIRC at some point it was up to 700 k, went down to the 300 k range a few days ago, then today I saw the limitation going down to 65 k and now it's down to a ridiculous 9.59 k.

 

Simply put, each time I attach a file to a post the upload limit becomes lower. Using Firefox & Win 7, if that helps.
