I love this thread! Show some more depressing pre-fab monotony, drab council housing, grunge and grime, and people freak out. Guess we all like it dirty in here... :kitty:

 

But seriously: Seeing your streets in action, I wonder whether the texture might do with a slight darkening and an equally slight nudge towards a warmer hue. IMO, its bright and cold appearance makes it look a bit sterile, which counteracts the grungy atmosphere it's supposed to convey.

I gave these streets a cooler hue to match with another ground texture mod I was using before I took these pictures. As I'm sure you can guess, this ground texture had a cooler hue, unlike the current one. Changing my streets to have a warmer hue would actually make the edges blend it slightly better for this texture mod, so I'll be sure to do that!

That's from a long, long time ago. I wouldn't so much consider these prefabs as much as recycled industrial components transformed into living spaces. When someone says "prefab" I can't help but think of public housing projects from the '70s.

I googled "prefab house"

 

As did I. Searching for prefab housing and combinations thereof, retaining the word "prefab", produces results akin to one of the word's common definitions. Buildings such as these:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

...and so forth. Prefab is not synonymous with minimalism, or in my case, "recycled" housing. If anything, my units/modules are anything but prefabricated. The whole theory behind them is that they are put together according to whatever materials are presently available as surplus/recycled, not by a predetermined, non-fluid and non-dynamic formulated conception.

It's like some magically wonderous dead beat city in SimCity 4, soooo realistic...like....like Detroit. Seriously amazing stuff, you shoul really start posting a City Journal like this!

 

Just curious about the roads... are they draggable or just lots?

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you and others had picked up on the Detroit vibe. The Motor City is a favourite of mine, so as you can imagine I'm adamant about making a tribute to it! The road are currently not draggable, they are plopped atop atop the road, having been essentially added atop Paeng's industrial TE lots. However, I may add them as a T21 later on.

I can't even begin to think how is that modeled, but great job. Wood is too glossy and reflective tho

To be honest, it took no more than half an hour to model that. I have a few tricks up my sleeve. Also, I was trying to give the wood a plastic-ey feel; as if it were fake. Wood goes nicely with the metal contours, but I feel anything dull or true to its origins would be too archaic in this house, given I expect it to be built on some other-worldly planet, albeit it one similar to Earth, or here on Earth in the future. The glaze helps reinforce the "sleek, cutting-edge and contemporary" motif. I'll experiment with toning it down a bit though.
