Looks like some kind of subway station...

I'd imagine this style of cladding could be applied to many structures.

    Here's a quick little update:

    9-17-2013-9-08-39-PM-6fb0.jpg

I've added a black obelisk in the center as a focal point to draw attention inwards. It will also be hollowed out a bit in order to house mechanical components and ventilation for the building. I may also add a green roof, or replace the large section of deck around the circular area of the building wholly or partially with pool or greenspace. You tell me what your ideas are!

That house looks like an architect had a kitchen accident involving a spray can of whipped cream that emptied itself uncontrollably, and suddenly got an idea.

Thanks for the kind words Reddonquixote and T Wrecks, I appreciate it greatly, especially from you two! :) The texture was inspired by a sculpture of a tiger I made of expanding foam and caulking as well as the Art Nouveau movement, which focused largely on nature; something that should be given greater precedence in our technocratic world.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I'm currently going through some IRL issues though so I may not have much time to do any BATs. I'd rather not say what the issues are right here, but if you were in chat yesterday in the morning; this time of the day, you'd know what I'm talking about.

I have a feeling this issue will be resolved in one form or another today, so we'll go from there... I'd like to get back to BATing; to have time for these kinds of things I love.

Organic/green architecture is one of my favorite styles to BAT. So, seeing that you created that just makes my... excuse me, let me pick up my jaw from the floor. Anyways, I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a hard time. I hope it's resolved soon. Nonetheless, before I go, I would like to point out a few things. The organic flow of the structure is very well done; however, I fear that the center piece does not contrast the rounded outskirts/edges enough. It could be the overall shape but that's just me. Adding some wave to the shape or perhaps "fractalizing" the edges should balance things out. Have a good one and thanks for sharing this excellent work.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoy this style of architecture and my rendition of it. I too had thought the edges were too drastic in terms of how they did not diffuse easily into the environment. However, this issue has since been rectified in a very "green" way. ;) As for my IRL issues, they too have since been solved. Turned out to be a not-so-simple misunderstanding, but I'm happy with the outcome.

EDIT: Here's an update in regards to those organic structures:

This is a large 2x2 tile sun-shade with inspiration taken from topographical maps and the natural evolution of our landscape; the visible rings in a cross-section of rock.

    Oh wow, I love how the structure dips in and out seamlessly and you've retained the organic feel of the overall structure too.  :yes: The differing height throughout the structure is ingenious. This has to be one of my favorites so far. My eyes are deceiving me but did you model the gritty patterns inside the "pattern" itself or is that textured? Nonetheless, great craftsmanship, keep 'em coming! Now, as for the three white cylinders, a shallow underground structure with glass work on top to peek through a bit and a swooping, spiraling staircase could work (an entrance to a public rest area/park, etc.). But then again, surprise me! Haha, btw good to know you got that issue resolved; glad to have you back in whole. Take care and spectacular work as always.  :}

Edit: Whoops, I'm not sure why I confused this work with your previous one (as an update). Your work must have caught me off guard haha. Fixed but haven't really taken away anything. You have my respects. Are you a professional architect by any chance? I love architecture as a hobby but it's always been in my wishes to be an architect designing bold, novice things and of course with a team or partner to exchange ideas back and forth to nurture each other intellectually. I find these forums strangely comforting.

Most architects reach their prime at the age of 50. I'm only 17... ;) I'm glad you are enjoying my work and your insight is especially noteworthy; some of the best I've received!

Haha thanks, it's a pleasure. You have so much ahead of you! I'm nearing almost half of that "prime age", actually by next year. College didn't work out for me... I could say it was due to lack of motivation or not knowing what I wanted to do back then; so many possibilities and not enough time or coin. Just working full-time now. I guess I can go back and finish my education but time will tell I suppose.

If I were you, I'd certainly go an finish your education. I have experienced few joys greater than the satisfaction of a wholesome education, or at least the prospect of it in my future, even at the mere age of 17. It wasn't always fun, nor interesting, but the end-product was and still is gratifying. ;) Anyways, here's a bit of progress...

    8afcd250763a6aafe021b653b9bec054bd45bf02

I plan on making the bases into central areas from which vines and other greenery extend to cover part of the metal structure's surface. The largest and central of these pillars will have a glass roof/spiral staircase for possible subway or underground walkway/pedmall access.

Your enthusiasm for education is very encouraging. Thanks for that. When the time is right I'll definitely give it a chance again. Hmm, I should hit the sack but doing some modeling work for an upcoming update on my thread this weekend or so. Nonetheless, what are your interests as far as your studies go? I haven't decided on one yet still, bleh. I feel like I'll be missing out if I did choose one and later regret down the road but then again can't master everything, eh? A jack of all trades, but a master of none. >.<

Psychological studies (and sociological/anthropological studies to a lesser extent) are my areas of focus, for they come naturally to me; one of the few things besides art and writing. It's not for everyone, but some people happen to do quite well with the social sciences. As well, several people in my family are psychologists, so it helps for me. I would give it a try, it may be your thing, and there are apparently a lot of job opportunities at various levels. Another good field to get in, which I'm just not adept to do and simply have no personal interest in, is technology. There will always be a requirement to fill those positions, especially in a society as technocratic as ours (relative to the others out there). That would be an especially great field to get into.

I hope this helps. Remember, I'm only 17 so I certainly don't personally know the ins-and-outs of the system. However, I have several close family members who have gone through the education system in search of all sorts of different "endgames" if you will, so in that regard I have fairly good second-hand experience. ;)

Here's a proof-of-concept image to demonstrate how vines would function:

I'd of course have to smooth out the edges of the vines, but let me know what you think!

It looks good...but what is it?

The big pit in the middle makes it look like terrain more than anything else....almost like a strip mine of some kind.

It's a covered public area. The metal will diffuse sunlight, acting like a sunshade akin to the Seville Parasol. Anyways, I've attempted to refine the vine texture. However, while it didn't come out completely as planned, I came across a method of adding grunge and moss to old buildings. Simply create a tight bounding box/polygon and apply my custom vine texture. Fool around a bit with UVW mapping then walls, roofs, and whatever you want will be procedurally textured with vines. You'll end up with something similar to this:

    8afcd25076abb58c1f9594e18567be7c3c6a0e90

The visual weight of the vines can be modified by adjusting various aspects of the map, such as cutout map blur, diffuse blur etc. Evidently some of the best art is accidental!

Hmm, I took an intro to psychology class back in college, which isn't much but I gotta say the topic at hand was quite interesting. For instance, the elevator study where if everyone is facing one direction, someone entering in the elevator would face the same direction, etc. That wasn't the prominent example but something that stuck because it's quite true and funny at the same time because it is quite awkward to be non-conforming in that case. Psychological studies is interesting indeed. Hopefully, one day you'll unlock more mysteries of how the brain works to keep people awestruck. :D  As for my passions, fiction novel writing was one of my favorite pastimes in the early days and somewhat is still. Not sure what happened but got some unfinished scripts laying around in my hard drive. :( I can agree with the fact that the only constant is change in regards to one's prospective career or dream as the individual explores various interests and/or needs (either financially or due to parents' legacy, etc.). I'm passionate about anything that has to do with design and science mixed in together such as application development (UX/UI design and the actual coding for the functional part of the program to process users' needs or wants), 3d modeling (elementary/advanced mathematics for calculating specific angles, rotations, derivatives, etc. of individual pieces of one's BAT or professional work), and web development (website's visual/functional design). I guess my problem is that I just don't know what I want to do primarily either as a professional or entrepreneur. Nonetheless, you seem to be on the right track, keep it up! I'm genuinely excited for you.  :D

I'd of course have to smooth out the edges of the vines, but let me know what you think!

Mmhmm, I see that you've added some structural domes throughout the peaks and the structure's personality and character is showing through just nicely. I'm definitely loving the weathered look. Nonetheless, as with all good remarks comes the bittersweet critique, which I don't expect less from others when they review my work. If so, that would be just absurd. We all need some challenges and a nudge in the right direction, eh? But, take my suggestions with a grain of salt, you're still the authoritative figure of your designs, here. :D That said, let's have a look. You probably have thought about this already and I may be stepping on your toes a little but having some recreational structures such as statues, pathways to walk around, small ponds, etc. underneath the shade should help emphasize its function as sun-shade and if not that's all good, too. Just maybe something to make it look more grounded and traversable underneath with a purpose such as things to do other than to just get away from the blazing hot sun. Perhaps, shops such as a good ol' lemonade stall or a souvenir cabin? Keep up the good work, as always, Bipin. And, thanks for sharing this eye-popping work here.
