That's not what I meant. I'm talking about the part that I circled in the picture below:

That's a ramp interface, or part of it. In fact, there are actually two of that type. Look really close at the RHW-6S Ramp. It's the same type of ramp.

Oh, okay, that's neat, Ganaram.

I am so looking forward to NAM 33! (I bet you get that a lot :D ) In fact I'm putting off doing a total redesign of the freeway that goes through my downtown until NAM 33 is out so that I can make it all elevated, even the ramps. Currently it's on an embankment due to the lack of two-lane elevated ramp pieces.

EDIT: In reply to Krenemo's post, I say, those are a really nice set of interchanges for someone new to the RHW!

But I'm not sure if you'd have enough space to construct that other interchange you want to construct in the first picture. It will take up more space than you might think, and even if it did fit, it would be way too close to the other exit, and there would be a lot of weaving as a result. You may have to rethink your placement of the freeway that goes from top to bottom, and/or redesign the existing half-diamond interchange to reduce its footprint.

If you use the draggable road/avenue viaducts for the freeway overpasses, (the "Draggable ERD" menu item in the Roads menu) you can have L1 (7.5m) overpasses over the RHW instead of the insanely high 15m overpasses that you get by using puzzle pieces. This will allow you to have shorter embankments leading up to the overpasses as a result. And you could eliminate all the tunnels under that one road since you can just drag the viaduct over all of those networks.

My latest one. The idea is that the highway is a border between the suburbs and the city center. The highway going to the neighboring tile goes to the CBD.

Show us more, this setup looks very interesting and complex. Nice fitting the Project Symphony elevated curves in there too.

Here is an overview of the complete interchange. It is not that complex in my opinion. :) I made interchanges that are way more complex than this one. I posted a lot of them in this thread too.

I know this thread is strictly interchanges-only, but good lord your street layout is fantastic. I want to live there.

Also, your interchange makes me seriously consider getting Project Symphony. I had no idea you could integrate it into RHW that seamlessly.

Yeah I think that all the time when building my suburbs: "Gosh, what would I give to live there" :D Also, have a look at  In the meantime I almost filled an entire large tile with this type of suburb. I really love building it.

Also, I strongly encourage you to get Project Symphony. For me, there is no distinction between PS and the RHW, as I mix it all the time. For instance, PS has a MIS L1 to L2 transition piece which occupies only 3 tiles. The standard RHW flex transition uses 4. Also, this flex transition is not always stable, therefore I mostly use the PS transition.

I made this little interchange today, it took me about 1 hour or so.

vfoawhtz.png

After doing that, I realized that it would be much more prudent to have the MIS running from the top to the right through a tunnel and the MIS from the right to the left over an overpass instead... So, after 10 more minutes, this is the final result. Fortunately, meanwhile some farm fields have developed, although I'm not entirely sure if lavender is really such an important crop that it needs to take up one of the larger fields in my city.

actually, i completely forgot about the drag-able overpasses, that would help alot, thank you for reminding me about that.

I built an interchange around another interchange. It's designed to allow entry into the southern tip of the CBD for commuters entering the city from the south on the Central Artery (Interstate 93/95/US Route 1, running left-right in this picture) and the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90), which terminates here.

I'm always a fan of interchanges built right against a city boundary. It really adds an interesting constraint.

started this one out as a harmonic convergence test to see how well NWM, PS, & RHW blended. then got  bored and turned it into a shopping complex.

    Another one:

    BtP5aQU.png

I had to replace an awkward interchange further south in my actual city, so I tested if this would work. It did! I might even add a toll the furthest right entrance/exit in the real application.

    As always, enjoy!

Edit: I did all the work and this is the results!

This is the northern interchange before:

    After:

As well as the old awkward parclo interchange that was making getting to the downtown area terrible,

Holy gridbusting batman, that looks awesome! :O

The only way to improve that occurs to me is not even related to the road/motorway layout: The trees have a somewhat obvious "brushed" look, i.e. one can see where you dragged the mouse cursor with the mouse button pressed. Some more variety there, and you have a winner. :) Great work, I hope we'll be seeing more of your stuff! :thumb:

Well, eventually my goal is to make a CJ out of this region, however my region is still somewhat underdeveloped to make a CJ out of it. I prefer to start a CJ with a solid basis :)

I would like to show you the evolution of an interchange in the city of New Concord.

This interchange connects the city's northern suburbs (on the right side of the images) to both Downtown to the south and the Port and Industrial sectors to the West.

PR-17 runs from the west to the north (from the top of the image to the right side of the image), while PR-117 merges with PR-17 as it comes from the south (from the left of the image to the right).

    NewConcordInternationalPort-Apr251291406

Here is the first version of the interchange, but a need for another connection into the densely populated peninsula inspired a more efficient design.

    Version1ofexpresslanes_zpsfed81431.jpg

Here is the second design, which featured express lanes that provided another much needed entrance into the densely populated peninsula.  However, I felt another redesign to create an even more efficient interchange would be necessary.

    Version2ExpressLanes_zps2c0cd56b.png

Here is the current interchange, now with a total of 2 express lanes in each direction connecting New Concord's northern suburbs directly to Reifer Beach, the city's premier shopping and entertainment district.  Eventually, I plan on expanding the SB ramp from PR-17 to PR-117 from one lane to two lanes.

    @Yarahi:

On the N & S bound lanes you're going to want to give those lanes a lot more time to accelerate and merge. i would plop those transition pieces at least 8 to 9 tiles back

Edit: its an avenue. maybe like 4 to 5. but other than that its still really great

@ iowndiscti: Thanks for the tip! Your idea has been implemented, and I'm happy to report that the sims are muy pleased with the decision :)

@ Haljackey: Your genius lies in the details! I might have been forced to adress the issue in a functioning city... but from a learning point of view, your help is invaluable!!

It's funny how that one freeway is red in the traffic congestion view, but the one to the south is green. Shouldn't the sims be using that other freeway, since it's actually a full-fledged freeway? Even with the NAM, the traffic simulator can still be pretty dumb...
