YAY ! Praise from one of the "Highway Kings" 6.gif  (thanks haljackey)

I remade it with the smooth ground-elevated highway piece. Thanks for the tip 44.gif

Was a bit of a tight squeeze, had to stretch the interchange and bury the railway.

Afraid that i created some weaving problem as you can see in the second image.

btw, does anyone know of a good rural railway station, preferably with links to download ?

Owaen: cool interchanges! I like the "smoothness" factor a lot, if you know what I'm talking about.

Pulled these out of my journal.  Can find more like them over there if you enjoy these.

First the over view of the area it was built in during construction.

Currently completed area of the project.

Then, after reading about this interchange I really wanted to see if I could pull it off in sim city and I think I did a decent job mimicking it by expanding a old Diamond Interchange.  The new style is a Diverging Diamond Interchange, check it out!

Now it was brought to my attention in my cj that there were too many highway lights in this pic.  So for the record, I went back and fixed it up in my journal but you get the gist.

Some very nice work, everyone!  It's always good to see people pushing the RHW and the like to the limits! 4.gif

A little something I put together the other day . . . and yes, that is what you think it is . . . still prototype models there.

A little taste of what you'll be able to do with the next RHW . . .

Great to see you still come here Tarkus! That is a mighty fine interchange, almost makes me want to skip time until the realese of V.21.

That looks awesome, Tarkus!

Flyinbird93, that's an interesting diverging diamond you have there. You don't see too many of those.

Weaving? Oh, well.  It looks good, Owaen.  Keep trying! 1.gif

Oh, and Tarkus... I have three words to say to describe your use of the next RHW.  Teasing, yet pleasing! 44.gif

The East Los Angeles Interchange is considered the busiest in the world.

I hope those inspired you guys. I don't have any interchanges to show yet. I'm working on a new city at the moment.quote>

kj3400 - thanks! thats precisly why i made it, for something different.

tark that looks great! one question, when the new rhw is released will i have to destroy the old to use the new? i thought i had read that somewhere for v20 which made me hesitant to use it for the longest time.

Here is my first functioning interchange with RHW 21.  A lot of new transitions and ramp connections are being added.

Before I show the pic, lets take a trip down memory lane...

Please click the images for full resolution!

    The area with RHW 13B:

    Upgraded with RHW 20:

Interchange widened and reconstructed with RHW 21.

What's next for this historical interchange?  Only time will tell.

That sweet Haljackey!!!The new RHW looks huge but realistic for big cities!!! I thing I don't like about now is they haven't made the MIS-OWR transition yet. Maybe you could PM Tarkus about it.

Oh its been made, but hasn't been properly implemented in to the alpha build I am testing.  I can tell you that a good looking, functional MIS-OWR transition will be included in version 0.21 beta, that's for sure!

And thanks everyone for your comments!  Keep showing us your interchanges!

    Awesome interchanges guys!

I really liked what you have done flyinbird93 particularly the city itself as well (sorry about all the bold text, I can't stop it for some reason 7.gif

Great new RHW tarkus and haljackey, I am looking forward to its release. Have you managed to add more lanes to it yet?

Here's one of my interchanges in a suburban area. I've smoothed the MIS roads by now as I gain more experience with the RHW each time I use it. T-junction.jpg

This is my first attempt at creating a highway/avenue system with deluxe, I plan for the majority of this to be a commercial area

Its a large tile and the zoom is out as far as it can get

    MajorHighwayAttempt1.jpg

This area will be pretty much all residential, with some parts being commercial, in particular infront of the water

One can't be away for a few days without always finding tons of new interchanges in this thread. Awesome work guys 44.gif!

In the meantime I learned something new: Trying to build very complex interchanges in SC4 can haunt you even in in your dreams. But back to the beginning.

There once was a guy who just discovered a certain Module for SC4: The RHW. For a long time he didn't put his hands on it though, instead he enjoyed the many custom interchanges built by devoted Simtropolians. The way of building them seemed way too complicated, so he didn't dare to touch this Mod. But one day, this guy thought: "What the heck, I'll try it out. If it's too complicated, I can always deinstall the RHW again." This was when it all started.

Recognizing that building interchanges is not so much unlike solving a big jigsaw puzzle (mentioned guy does indeed like jigsaw puzzles 2.gif), he began to create his own interchanges. Not too complicated at first; a 3-way interchange seemed a good thing to start with. While building this interchange, he realized that for a full 3-way interchange, care of 6 different directions has to be taken. He then dreamed about a BIG 8-way interchange and began to think about the general complexity of interchanges.

I would like to sketch this briefly with some examples (don't worry, I try not to bore you too much 3.gif).

    2-3-4-way.jpg

    - For a 2-way 'interchange', there is 1outgoing direction per incoming direction, so 2x1=2 directions in total to take care of.

    - 3-way interchange: There are 2 outgoing ways per incoming direction, so the total is now 6.

    - A 4-way interchange needs 12 ways ( = 4x 1 incoming x 3 outgoing)

-> Thus, the number of possible directions has a complexity of the order O(x2), more accurate: A full n-way IC needs to have n(n-1) directions.

Some time ago I tried a full 6-way interchange (sorry for the shameless revival of an old picture 41.gif):

    6-Ways.jpg

Ever since then, I wanted to try a full 8-way interchange. And now we are at the dream-haunting theme. The monster below took me many hours to complete, and several time I had to completely redesign the layout because sooner or later I realized that there either were some directional lanes missing or then there were some redundant ones. More than once I was on the verge to give up the project altogether, but then I couldn't let me get beaten by the game's restrictions!

I fully acknowledge that this interchange is highly unrealistic and probably never gets built in reality. There is even some weaving (I simply couldn't avoid it; there was built too much already to give it another restart). Anyway, here it is:

    The full 8-way interchange:

    Biga.jpg

    As always: Have fun 9.gif!

P.S. If anyone would love to try a full 12-way interchange:  Some crazy designer (not me! I found this on the internet) actually sketched such a monster on a piece of paper, see the pic below 6.gif.
