  1. I consider starting a city yournal. I have done this many years ago, and I know that there is a way to extract the image of a city tile from the .sc4-file using the ILives reader. However, I cannot remember how to do this. Any help is appreciated
  2. Hello, The question is literally on the title. I think, both have to be converted to JPG to be present here on ST. Thanks.
  3. How to put a .gif in the post?

Silly question, but I can't seem to figure it out. When I use the URL, the image does not appear. When I try to copy-paste it doesn't move. When I embed it, there is only link and no image. So? How to do it?
  4. Hi! I'm trying to update the regional view of my city tiles but they all save with different definition, you can see it by comparing the tiles to the north and southeast. The tile in the bottom right corner is the worst offender. I've tried saving the city in all zoom levels, using the floppy disc icon. My graphic settings are all on high with the exception of cars and shadows, I run hardware rendering and a custom resolution. Any idea how I can harmonize all the tile overviews?

¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨ Oh dear readers! In the mood for another report? Hope so, as this one cames along a line never explorated due to the inevitable (and so complicated) technical issues, anyway, nothing that some patience, planning and action can't deal with. As for today de SMNT (a.k.a. Saint Maj North Transport) presents us the second deal around it's anual report with never seen images and analysis: our dear Capital sorts out into the eye of our SMNT. What would it be? We'll we hope you can't guess. Tarrë, the capital city of our nation has just reached the one hundred and sixty habitants mark, solely in it's core, as the western and southeast districts (Kar Herne & Renet, respectively) show an important growth. Today we leave you once more with the CEO of the SMNT, our ex-senator Mr. Hillcrest: "Dear Tarrëans, just this section of this analytics program we've just launched five years ago has turn out to be a core for the next years towards our capital plans. We've conceiled the information in three main maps: avenue map, TRAMsit map and IntraUrban Rail Map. The first one reveals the enormous growth of the city, filled with main avenues as best as the space permits, all along you may notice, the city almost ate everything and with its compactness, it won't allow new avenues, so the solution in results in a double lane road as in the downtown Tarrë. The TRAMsit map just overlaps the first and its importance allocates (as the IntraUrban Rail map) in its integration with the avenue and road systems. The compactness of the city as you may think leaves us with so little space to develop that commplicated infrastructure. With the TRAMsit the solution tends to be towards its specilization, by which I mean, the street working only for trams. The issue with the IUR (a.k.a IntraUrban Rail) is it's obvious necessity of space. Our engineers manage years ago to develop the main line with excessive possibilities as the city wasn't spread, but as the city grew that space shrinks. The result is a compact and almost completely underground system with only nine stations, including the main two: the renamed Saint Maj Central (C, in the map) and the Abyss Station, just in front, receiving western lines (2, in the map). You may notice that the main purpose of the rail was to connect the western industrial zone to the downtown, as for today that necessity is the main as the inter- urban rail connections to other cities. Anyhow, this is just a bit of the complex transport system we are guardians of. Take care, and hope for the best." Mr. Hilcrest. Head of the SMNT Conseil. ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨ ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨ Finally, a zoom 3 or 4 of our capital! ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨

  8. Teaser

What the project will be about This project will be on a fictional Hawaiian island named Pahili. It won't be a 100% accurate on what the Hawaiian islands contain but I will do everything in my power to have a Hawaiian feel to it.I got my inspiration from Kailua-Kona, where I stayed for my Hawaii vacation in the summer.I also took some inspiration from some parts of Maui and O'ahu. It's my first non-urban region I'm doing. The region will contain tourist areas,a national park, small highway system,small-or medium sized airport and a couple of towns. Why I'm doing this project Ok so the reason I'm doing this project is because I got really tired of developing the same types of areas and wanted to do something less urban.I'm also doing this because I just wanted to do something outside of my imagination and go for something more creative.
  9. Let's play a new game, a mix between a Show Us thread and a typical forum game. Game Rules: The first user posts an image of a city of their own, made on any city-building game (or even on another game that allows cities to be built), asking what the next person would fix or change on the image, with the idea of improving some aspect of it, to make it more functional, realistic, beautiful or fun. The next user has to propose a fix briefly, in no more than 7-10 lines (or in no more than 5 lines if including an image). The proposal has to be civil and constructive (even if literally consists on demolishing some structure). Remember that everybody is always learning and has the right to make errors. To finish their post, the next user has to include their own image of their city, to be fixed by the next user. If an image stays unfixed by five (5) days in a row, it will be considered as un-improvable, and the user will have won the round. Any other user could add their own image to restart the game. ____________________ To start, I'll put an old image of mine, even if that tile isn't active anymore. I choose it because that tile was super buggy and I had to remade it several times, so I'm curious of how much we'll coincide on this. So, what would you fix on this image?

  13. I thought it might be a fun idea to have a thread for funny things you see in the game! -Note: glitches do count, but this isn't the primary focus. I'll start. This reminds me of the house from the movie Up Click for full size Now post yours!
  14. To render a downloaded region, I've decided that I'd like to fill in its deep lake-holes with lake-surface-elevation land. [in other words, I want to un-do the water cut-out work that some map-maker did for me -- please forgive me]. I've been playing with God-mode tools after rendering, and they're rather tedious when I'm up against several large mountain reservoirs drawn to scale. If there's an easy image tool that can touch a black lake and make it (but only it) change to a lovely elevated shade of grey of my choosing, then I'd like to hear about it. FWIW, I have Photoshop, PhotoImpact and Corel MediaOne installed (and Windoze may have "Paint" somewhere), but I've only used them for photo touch-up, not real graphics work. My two mysteries: 1) I don't know where to look in their haystacks of features to even begin reading their help. 2) I am unsure how to choose the right level of grey to aim just below a lake's shoreline. Is there hope here, or am I stuck with post-rendered god mode? Background: After searching several forums for "lakes" and "holes", I am left with some problems with lakes in mountainous areas. In order for Maxis water to appear, map-makers often "cut out" water such as lakes and rivers, turning them black in their greyscale images. When rendered, these "holes" plunge into the sea-level water table alright, but mountain reservoirs then appear as deep "blue holes" ringed with tall cliffs. Sometimes the water isn't even visible because the holes are deeper than they are wide. The cost of exposing Maxis water is that the lakes and rivers then aren't very useful (or pretty). It seems that no modder has ever figured out how to set "sea-level" at a higher value over a limited area, so it probably can't be done. However, I found some navigable water from PEG that can be painted over flat or gently sloping terrain at any elevation. With a set of edging lots to turn abrupt boundaries into shoreline, it looks like a solution, especially with the 4x4 and 8x8 water lots that I made to extend the kit for fast large-lake resurfacing. I also modded the water lots to be super cheap to plop (virtual god mode), and I restricted them to plop only on perfectly flat terrain (they'll detect the slightest shoreline even if I can't see it). Having this tool kit in hand is what has me looking to restore lake surfaces to mirror-flatness somewhere near their shoreline elevations. I'd've resurrected a necrotic thread (or found answers there), but I couldn't even find one close to what I am trying to do. Maybe I used the wrong search terms. Feel free to point me where I need to read. UPDATE: I am struggling with Photoshop. It has some halfway useful tools such as eye-dropper (which needs clicks rather than mere hover) and bucket-fill. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to coax the program into displaying and allowing me to set 0-255 shades of light. Instead, I am being forced to work in 0-99 percent dark The light-dark inversion I can handle, but the loss of precision is aggravating. I'm also unhappy with bucket-fill, but I have learned my way around two gotchas. The first was the word "bucket". I first searched for the word "fill" and found a tool that reset the whole <expletive deleted> image to my selected darkness level. I would never have thought to search for help on the word "bucket", finding it only by rote exploration of the toolbox. The second gotcha in b-fill is "tolerance". Too little, and the fill leaves JPG blending speckles unfilled as artifacts. Too much, and the fill over-tops the lake outlet, runs down a creek bed, and floods all of SF Bay to the level of a mountain lake (not healthy for Silicon Valley). I opted for too little, counting on SC4 rendering's smoothing cycle to polish away JPG speckle. And that speckle is another minor irritation: When I save the image, even at the maximum JPG quality, it seems to do some blending around the edges of sharp contrast (e.g. around any lake I haven't edited yet). This forced me to edit them all in one go without saving my work along the way. Thank heavens (and Adobe) for "undo" (^Z), one feature that they got spot on. And so I am making some progress, but I wonder if it's a blind alley. There are probably more things to learn about Pshop that could make my life easier, but more than that I wonder if it's a suboptimal tool altogether. Does anyone know better? If not, then does anyone have any pointers?
