yep, he did a lot of vanilla box stores. it doesn,t have to be with a shopping center. just add a parking lot next to it. we have to do some imagination in using the mods. I've thrown all kinds of mods together trying to build a feed mill or railroad hub.

on something so extensive, I'd recommend copying the region to a backup folder every time you close the game. this way, you wouldn't lose as much work if the save does corrupt. can always recover past work if needed.

was just a general error, most likely cause i still have win 7.

RR made many mods. there is a Rent to Own, not sure if it is actually an Aaron's or other brand,. you'll have to read through some of his sets to find that. when you do find the set, you can choose what buildings you want to use and not copy the others into your pluggin folder.

SC4 is such an older game, I doubt we get the traffic nowadays. so the comments will be less as well. most people look but never comment at all on anything. not just here but everywhere. I have loaded many many mods, but left very few comments. like any game site, modders move om, so many wouldn't be here now to read them. as for how to make any good comment or material, do what is fun to you. we can't please everyone if we tried. might as well enjoy what we can. we all have our own play styles as well. don't expect to create or decorate like others. game sites are like walking into a bar. everyone is talking amongst themselves and hardly notice you came in. it takes time to build relationships and get accepted. but over time , maybe we can play darts of flirt with the bar maids.

Bear Lake- what started out as a planned retirement on the lake has been been rebuilt. well added to and altered 3 times. due to the economic costs caused by pollution, the factories had to be rebuilt this time around. stilll the region has grown by 75% and the commute time is 45 mins.
-
Potter- a logging region. again, churches and a bus route to serve the many worker camps were added. there was enough funding for a stockyards to be built near the south exit from the highway. population growth of 50%. like most of the small regions, commute time is about 30 mins. I hate how the pics don't show details very well.

moving east across the northern edge of the map-WARREN- bus route , churches, a cemetary, city hall, and a commerce office were added. working to hold funding at $400,000. excess funding was spent adding a shopping area to the west and a truck stop just north of the highway. commute time under an hour. this region does show movement via the trains. the commerce office reports 5000 commuters leaving even with all the jobs here. population doubled to 25,000.

we'll start with Erie, the biggest region population wise in the north. expanded the bus lines, added a 2nd passenger station to the railroad, and upgraded roads. the city now has churches and cemetaries, a mall was built. a government area with a town hall, jail, unemployment office, and a chamber of commerce for census #'s. a golf course was rewarded. the city did need more schools to support the population growth. it almost doubled to 61,000 sims. profit is good. this region has over 500 freight trucks leaving but not much moves along the railroad or port. total funds is lower than I expected but should maintain at over $200,000.

PHASE 3- in between the phases, i made some adjustments and added more mods. some helper game play mods should improve things. am not sure all of them will work on an established map. 1 is to give more info for the whole map. some hopefully will help control the populations better. to me the income tiers are wrong. much of what is C/I $$$ should b level $$. that and the game's push to high income and then start over and cycle thru again will have to be worked through. it is a give and take situation. I also added lots of city hi-rise housing mods. there should be more variety in the next round. churches, some cemetaries, and some reward buildings will be added. I do have a goal to get the regions to a $$ balance. at the start, I changed the funding to $250,00 for the small, left the medium's at 500, and the large were set at $750. my goal is to get each region to a set $$ fund balance and use the profit for improvements. during this phase, transportation has to be improved. this is a neccessary evil as it will cost funding. it will be easier to build it now and then let the cities grow around it thou. a passenger rail line is planned from Harrisburg south to the other metro's and then to connect them together. some of the medium regions will get some bus routes as well. I won't bore you with pics of every region this time. many of the small rural regions won't see much build up. this should speed things up and be smoother. population goal 2 million for this round.

1> yep, am working to find a balance with funding. after I layed out the main highway and rail line, I adjusted the $$ for small regions to $250,000, medium to $500, and the metro's to $750. working to maintain a set balance and $$ above it invest in growth and services. later the hope is to use the excess to pay for plopping and upgrading. not easy to do that. the natural gas has helped with the small regions and some business deals with cabins or parking lots has helped others. but the metros have used more $$ and will need more to help with transportation. a plan for the metro's is to use $$ above a set amount to pay for the losses the Utility region will have. have to b a banker. 2> I have some regions planned for IT , but some will stay as dirt and others light factories. the Sims will have to move if they want clean air.. to that end, I tried to not over educate them. many of the small regions only have PEG's kindergarten daycare for a school,. should work like a library. 3> I have a mixture of trash mods. much of it is going to rail. then it can be trucked to the incinerators or the Utility region. that has been a challenge as not all the modded trash dropoffs seem to work well or handle enuf volume. did have to add a couple drop offs to a few regions as garbage kept piling up. 4> that too has been a challenge. 3 big metro's have to be played at the same time, 1 year at a time. then the Utility region expands to allow more output for the next year. 5> transportation is going to be an issue for sure. I built a highway system but the Sims don't use it much nor the way it would be in RL. the interactions of the Sims from region to region is puzzling. game shows many people or freight going to another town yet that town doesn't show them coming. thisx Phase , I am adding bus lines to several of the medium and large regions. a passenger rail is planned to connect the large metro's. from Harrisburg to Scranton then to Philly,Allentown and Pitt. I figure I better build it now so the cities can grow around it and save having to do demolition work later. will cost $$ though. the railroad regions of the northeast will have to use passenger stations with their railroads and buses. not sure how this will make us $$. probably cost us for a few years. hopefully, the population will grow enuf to afford it. 6> have a civic radius mod added during the break between phases. that does seem to be working. did save some $$ on buses and ambulances. thank you for the input. things are going slower than i thought they would ,but there is progress.

PHASE 2 completed. schools, fire, and police stations built. 4 areas are still in the red. the 2 Amish regions, 1 logging region, and the Utility region. Utility will get some funding kick back from the metros. the others will grow a bit more. population 773,000. short of my hoped 1 million goal. but still 4 times the population in just 3 years. did overcome some issues along the way. there is progress. the cities do have some skyscrapers. I've worked to keep plopping to a minimum. some things had to be built up, such as the ports and railroads. I held off on churches and some reward buildings in order to concentrate efforts toward making profit. thoughts/tips before I start Phase 3?

reconciling edges can be a problematic. yes, it is better to do these before playing. so much work goes in way before a map can be played, unless you just play flat and Maxis generic terrain and trees. took me way too long to set my map up. terrain changed, then added a tree controller and planted each individual region. then reset the dates. time consuming. in your case, did you make any terrain changes? could be as simple as a bad oops click on the height level. also, did you re-check the arrow to be sure you did not accidently turn 1 map? that would throw things out of whack. where you knew you had differences would be off. if it is big map with several regions, i'd recommend opening each 1 and reconcilling them all before starting to play. would save lots of issues later. with SimCity and the way it saves over the old files, the only way is to backup the region files constantly. that way you can undo things. it is also handy to recover areas that had a bad save. that glitch can happen after years of playing on the map. without a constant backup plan, you lose everything. with a backup, you can import 1 region and only lose some of your time.

Philadelphia is zoned but growing slower than the other main cities. it does have a bus route.

Allentown with a college and culture district.

am i correct that there are none that do this regionwide while in game? Sawtooth's works well outside of game. I wish it gave more breakdowns of the sim and worker classes , however.
-
The rest of this, the next 5 regions, has to be done at the same time due to the Utility region supplying them all. each 1 had to be ran 1 year at a time and then the Utility built and ran after them all. the population had to be zoned toward outer regions to help support them, such as toward the Mall and Navy sections. pics- Hershey and Scranton. a water park and supporting wharehouses for a future amusement park. Scranton has over 100,000 sims ,the most so far.

Between Pittsburgh and the other metro regions, there is an airport and a mall district. I did have to plop some hotels. for now the mall region is breaking even on funding. these 2 regions will grow more as the population does.

yeahh, thank you NOS.

Pittsburgh's population grew to almost 50,000.
