  1. Mods and Natural Disasters

@jstatha I think quite a lot of players do play on Macs (I've seen numerous posts about it on Reddit), so it is most definitely possible to have the game run on it, but I think the amount of Simtropolis members doing so is very limited. So before you whip out the plastic and get a PC, it may be worth posting your problem over there or on the Paradox form. Unless you're actually looking for a reason to make the switch to PC, obviously
  2. I initially removed Sub-Buildings because of Roadman's 'How to survive 1.6" post on Reddit, but afterwards I realized that older buildings still need it (and also read your comments about the built-in system and how you can't use custom props), so I re-subscribed. I may have forgotten to re-enable it though - I'll check as soon as I get back home. Edit: turns out I'm a doofus. After enabling Sub-Buildings the building shows up correctly, chimney and all!
  3. Ooh, I'm looking forward to the extension - I've managed to create a similar construction using separate assets, but it's way too small, plus it doesn't look nearly as good as your creation looks even when still WIP. I have one question about the power plant: when I plopped it in my city last night (just to see what it looks like, I still need to find a final place for it), I noticed the asset didn't have that huge chimney. Is that the way you set it up (chimney as a separate asset), or might something be off with the sub-buildings system?
  4. Mods and Natural Disasters

I doubt many players here are playing the game on a Mac, so even though people would love to help you, chances of finding a solution here are probably pretty slim. Posting your problem on Reddit or the official Paradox forum probably gives you a better chance of finding as fix for your problem(s) - good luck
  5. Natural Disasters forced me to fix some issues with the Eyecandy mod, which should be resolved by now. As a bonus I also added hotkey support: by default, Shift-U will toggle the mod panel, but in the mod option window you can change this to Ctrl-U or Alt-U if players have different hotkey preferences or if it conflicts. Apparently the Roadsigns mod is still throwing hissy fits for some players, so I'll need to tend to that first, but hopefully I can soon continue my work on the next version of the mod.
  6. Show Us Your... Nature

Looks great, @namspopof - reminds me of the Province. I also really like those rock textures you use: often they look a bit artificial, but those mountains and cliffs and that shot look fantastic!
  7. Yup, that's how it works: the thumbnail goes in the root of that temporary folder, all modes, model assets, etc. go into the 'Content' folder (that's how I included the props and textures in my Roadsigns mod).
  8. That new power plant is a beast of a facility Avanya, and that's the way we like it! Amazing model!
  9. Mods and Natural Disasters

Yeah, that's what I did, and although it helps a bit, but still my city is continuously scarred with charred area's I've turned my entire city into parkland, so if a fire breaks out it's pandemonium). I play this game more to create nice-looking cities than for mayoral challenges, so it's still not ideal (I don't mind pelting my city with disasters though, but preferably on my terms [like to teach them that high taxes are painful, but not nearly as much as a 50ft meteor in their backyards ]).
  10. Mods and Natural Disasters

So this new DLC means that forest fires are just a base game feature now, as in, disasters disabled or not, they will always happen, and happen a LOT to boot? That's just great....
  11. Mods and Natural Disasters

Well, re-installing seemed to do the trick: I managed to load my city again! \o/ And with a minimum of errors, just three in total: one from RICO (commercial provides jobs but no jobs are set) which seems to have no impact (maybe because I had to switch from the original one to his test version), a couple of "Duplicate preFab name" messages (probably caused by local assets) and one "Array index is out of range" message (afaik. a rather common one). And it seems that for some reason the issues I had with TM:President Edition (no hearses/garbage trucks spawning) have been resolved as well. Now that all is well again, I reckon it's bug-fixing time...
  12. Movies on Billboards

Yeah, I saw that too, and it's pretty awesome! If I understood it correctly it's basically possible to load movie files/containers as textures, which would open a whole range of new possibilities (animated billboards, road/signal signs, perhaps even animated ground decals?) Looks like that 32GB RAM my laptop supports might be needed soon
  13. Mods and Natural Disasters

Still no success for me (crash to desktop at various stages of the loading process with the same config, so it seems the whole game is screwed since the update), so I'm currently re-installing the game as a last-ditch effort. Hopefully this will allow me to finally reboot my city again, because if not, I'll probably continue working on my mods but stop playing the game itself: it'll be the fourth time many 100's of hours invested in a city are wiped in one felt swoop, and I don't have the motivation to restart all over again for a fifth time. So fingers crossed...
  14. So awesome! I love all your trees, but I'm happy to see you're once again using your talents and skills for brick 'n' mortar stuff as well!
  15. Mods and Natural Disasters

Gawd daymn I'm awesome! Literally all I did was Ctrl-Shift-B once to recompile the .dll-file. Oh, and updating the version number, lol.
  16. Beardmonkey's stuff

Awesome!!! I'm using those decals way too much
  17. Mods and Natural Disasters

Wait wut, that placebo fix worked?!?
  18. Mods and Natural Disasters

No success for me either: I followed Roadman's guide on Reddit, but the game still crashes during map load Very annoying because it makes properly debugging/testing my mods pretty much impossible: so hopefully the patches that I did upload today will also work in a modded city (haven't been able to try it out, but as local copies with disabled Workshop both my mods seem to work fine again).
  19. Mods and Natural Disasters

You mean that rapid clicking sound? I get that before I enter the main menu and also during the loading process (shortly before the map shows). At first I thought my hard drive was toast, but after I found out that the sound's volume is tied to the system volume settings, I figured it's just some random weirdness coming from the game.
  20. Mods and Natural Disasters

I gave it a short try, got pelted with a wide range of issues With mods enabled, my mod panel is empty (probably the improved panel mod), the rest is visible, and I can do stuff after closing the error window (load a city - then it crashes to desktop). Without mods it crashes during load (error in a small modal window). And Don't Crash is pooping on my party as well, it seems. Oh, and @Ronyx69, thanks for that, that was gold! Ronyx6
  21. I'll probably test ride my black friday purchases for a while (yee-haw, giddy up Roach! ), until the dust has settled. Too bad, just when I was finally working on American Roadsigns again.
  22. Any good maps for realistic cities

Give it a try, it's great! Unfortunately my city was struck by a Disaster of an Unnatural kind - a magnitude .1 update, disaster area 100% inaccessible
  23. Lee Towers' assets

You could use a few different colors for different sub-divisions of Generic Industries Ltd, like green for foodstuffs, orange for electronics, and so on (a bit like Samsung and other mega conglomerates). That way you can add a bit more variation without having to come up with new brand names, logo's, etc.
  24. Any good maps for realistic cities

Currently I am (Colossal Hillside), my two previous cities (by now long lost due to re-installs) were on maps created by Zakerias.
  25. Any good maps for realistic cities

I second OWL, he makes fantastic maps. Another map builder more than worth checking out is Zakerias.
