Introduction A lot of you may know already, but I recently went on vacation in Japan from August 23 - September 27. I'd like to share to everyone my photos that I took from the trip, from my Flickr account. I also have a tendency to recall some previous trips and some previous interactions with friends, colleagues, and of course, ST members that I even met in real life and get to know each other a little more. If you are camera owner and want to have a discussion on this thread, go ahead as well; I'd wanted to know what kinds of lenses and cameras people use for their hobbies. In this thread I'd also discuss about how to enjoy any trip, whether it be just a commute to work or a full-blown adventure as what you would see below, but first of all, one of the biggest suggestions that I always tell myself is to be glad about what it is shown to you. I find out that complaining about a lot of things will make yourself less happy. Remember that travelling is a privilege vested upon you from work, school or from your parents. For myself really hate saying "I don't like it" to a place because you haven't been there for too long and actually lived the experience. When I first came to Osaka I had a feeling that I wouldn't like it but the moment I understood it more through its citizens I become more interested and understanding to finding out about their culture. I'd tell you more about that in future updates, stay tuned! Cameras I am not a professional photographer but rather a hobbyist; I just take photos to capture moments that I see as worth being kept. I would like to improve on my photography skills and travelling to places are one of the best ways to understand your system a little more. (2015-2018) I have a Canon EOS Rebel T5 (also known as the Kiss X70 in Japan or the 1200D in Europe). A majority of my photos were taken in this body, but I recently sold it online for cheap to someone. May he have peace on that camera. (2018- ) EOS 7D: Top of the line APS-C camera. A lot of people are now into full frame mirrorless cameras but I don't really see a point of it. If you can shoot comfortably with your camera then shoot it in there. I love the 7D because it's similar to the camera that I was familiar with plus with cool new features that I didn't see from my old camera, such as the 40+ AF points (though I shoot in manual focus); Sensor cleaning (no need to buy $40 APS-C cleaners. I brought a 75-300mm EF lens, and the 18-55 kit lens from Canon as well as a 50mm lens from Yongnuo. I have updated it now to a 10-18mm Ultra Wide Angle, a 50mm F1.8 STM and kept the 75-300mm EF lens, all from Canon so expect more interesting images around. Highlights To open it up, some highlights that made it through quality control. This was taken on the way to Ishinomaki; Matsushima is very beautiful and ethereal; I didn't manage to visit the area in its entirety this year but this view from the train is actually quite nice. A date night in Kamakura... ...and this one from Tokyo on a rainy day. Keep yourself updated!

Hey guys, I've been enjoying Cities: Skylines basically since release day, immensely helped by all the awesome stuff the community created, and felt that after so much taking, it was time for a little giving. In real life I'm a front-end/C# developer, and in my free time I love to travel and run riot with my camera (and again web developing: recently my travel website went live, a labor of love/vitriolic hatred of 10 years). With that in mind, it's not surprising I ended up creating a mod that goes right after the aesthetics. The result: Ultimate Eyecandy *tadaaaa* Some more action photo's. Addendum April 4th, 2016: I'm making slow but steady progress, not in the least by deciding to ditch a couple of features on my wishlist for a later stage Most important for the time being is to create a stable and robust base to which future features can be added. What remains are basically the features that are visible in the various screenshots. ETA for v1.0.0: for the time being unknown. Wish list (not to be confused with a to-do lost - these are features I'd love to add, but not sure how feasible they are): - setting to turn on/off building night lights at will, without messing with the actual simulation (based on what I've found so far, the two seem rather intertwined). - color picker to change the fog color; - color picker to change air pollution color; - slider to change the strength of 'ground wetness'; - LUT Creator: apply various settings to a neutral LUT (color channels, brightness, contrast, lightness, etc.) and export/upload the result as a custom LUT; - a modular set-up: this mod will be the core, and other graphics-related mods can be integrated as 'plug-ins', each with a menu item/tab of their own. Think (orphaned) mods like Dynamic Resolution, BorderCities and/or Ambient Occlusion; - who knows what else I'll come up with (feel free to make suggestions!) For who is this mod: - modelers that want to take screenshots of their assets in every imaginable weather/ambient condition; - players that like to have control over the environment when making Let's Plays; - players that love to have a more artistic/photographic approach to taking screenshots; - players that like to watch their city in different conditions without having to wait (for example until the game finally decides to let it rain); - anyone else Thank you: - Boformer, BloodyPenguin and SamsamTS for making their mods publicly available on Github: I learned tons by just studying their mods; - AJ3D for helping me to get started and taking my first baby steps in the wonderful world of CSL modding! If anyone has questions, suggestions, comments or remarks, don't hesitate to let me know! After all, this mod will be for y'alls!

When was the last time you used photographic film?
A Nonny Moose posted a topic in General Off-Topic
The title says it all. I haven't in more than 25 years. I used to be a process photographer and developed my own film both black and white (very fine grain portraits) and colour. Went digital about the time I got married, 1987. With the exception of some professionals, I suspect that film usage has gone the way of the dodo. For that matter, is anyone manufacturing film any more? I used to buy it in 100 foot rolls and cut my own cartridges. For portrait work I used both Adox KB17 and KB14. Both slow, fine grain films. For what its worth, I had my own dark room in 1956, and used to compound my own developers. -
Link. How sad really. Not just bad news for photographers, but it's telling of the kind of trouble the entire newspaper industry is in. Will we even have printed papers in the next couple of decades? Probably not. Thing is, while you can replace paper with the internet and people's tablets and phones in theory, you can't replace good writers, and you can't replace good photographers. With a camera in everybody's cell phone people take it for granted, but taking great photographs requires a lot of skill and experience. Many don't realize this. Not to sound like an elitist, but I think my coworker said it best a couple of weeks ago: "taking a good photo is not something everybody can do". They can certainly learn it, but it requires real effort.
