Where to find some of the best SimCity 4 content
Srawldaddy74 replied to Haljackey's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Need to find dependencies for oil tanks and pipelines. I think it was PEG CDK or maybe they were part of the oil jetty pack. -
Windows 10 Problem Reporting Thread
Srawldaddy74 replied to rsc204's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Thanks all for your patience and help. I did the full removal and followed Nonny's advice and now I have my game back. However, I do have some mods that I have to replace because my back-up plugin folder was a little old. I lost hundreds of hours or work but at least I have the game back. One thing, my cities at night look purple. I think it is due to a mod that is missing or one that isn't compatitble with something. Any thoughts. Before, I had simfox's tru-night and dark-nite mods installed. Any suggestions? -
Windows 10 Problem Reporting Thread

I removed all files and re-installed but I can't find the plug-in folder in my documents (maxis CD install has plugin folder I my documents) due to steam installing instead of maxis. I have my back up files but I am now in new territory with no idea what to do. Steam has confused me. Question? Does anyone know where the document folders are with a steam digital version of SC4 so I can install my back up files to the digital version copy of the game? -
Windows 10 Problem Reporting Thread

"Windows 10 Home-I previously ran Windows 7- I also recently tried to install Strictoasters Hardware settings but could not install the 4_gb patch. I tried to delete all of the changes and even uninsalled and installed Sim City 4. HP p6715f intel core i3 CPU 550 A 3.20GHz 64-bit, 64-based processor Intel HD graphics-display adapter" I will refrain from posting the same topic in multiple forums but I am frustrated to my core. To answer the questions from my original post. I bought the digital version from steam and it install using a steam installer. I previously used the CD version but decided to upgrade to Windows 10 and buy and installed the digital version from Steam. However, the exe file is not the regular maxis launch file-it is a steam bootstrapper that I am not used to; a bit confusing for me . I don't know how to navigate all the steam files to troubleshoot problems unlike the CD version of the game. This is where I believe my problems started but hard to tell since I only noticed graphic errors and screen resolution problems after firing up that game only snooping around to see if things were ok. I will follow the directions and try a fresh install and report back my experience. -
Help-Switched to windows 10-nothing is the same
Srawldaddy74 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I have been playing SC4 for roughly 12 years now and now since I have switched to windows 10 my beloved game no longer works as before. It all started with trying to play the game I noticed some of the bridge pylons were missing. Then when I was starting a new city I noticed that highway walls were plopping but not visible. Next thing I noticed was that the lots for the hole diggers don't show up. So finally I started going through my civic lots and noticed that a lot of the lots had missing parking lots or props. Finally, I noticed that my screen doesn't fit my monitor it is cut off the bottom. I switched to windows 10 roughly a week ago and really didn't notice how much was going wrong with the game. If anyone in the community can help I would appreciate it. I love this game because it is my therapy from a long week of work. I am truly freaking out at the thought of not being able to play my game on Sundays. Any help...please. Here are my specs. st challenges Challenge Ideas Bank
Srawldaddy74 replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Simtropolis Related
I have been on a hiatus as well but I think a challenge geared toward modern urban planning problems. My suggestion would be for SC4 and your local professional team request a new home to be located in the central business district. Of course most of us have shown these examples before but I would say the challenge would be for a city you have existing already that has a tight core inner city neighborhoods, historic low to mid rise district and office districts. So of course the challenge would be to integrate stadium in to the road network, mass transport and parking all the while not destroying the fabric of the downtown. -
Do you build master planned cities? Or just make it up as you go along...
Srawldaddy74 replied to poshbakerloo's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Like a lot of others I layout the city center and the places where the major civic will be and if it's on a river or coast the port. I try to keep things as realistic as possible while keeping with the vision I have for that specific city. I would say may regions are masterplanned moreso than my cities. I have plans for the core cities then the secondary cities and then the commuter or satellite cities. The core cityor cities almost always have to be planned at first in order to be realistic. The game makes you be a micro-manager as far as building styles at first. In the old town sections I like for brick wall to walls that have storefronts. Then I move on to the secondary cities that I won't build commercial until I have significant commuter traffic in order to jumpstart my core city demand. Once the demand is high I move out even further to the commuter cities and build the commuter network which includes highways and most importantly commuter rail. There is nothing more frustrating than getting everything right with your city and then realizing you have to install a rail network both commuter and national. As far as zoning goes it has to follow at first commercial both low and medium density with residential surronding 3 sides fo the commercial "old town" district. Those residentials will become the inner ring residential and hopefully become part medium to high density once the region population grows. I only plop landmark or eyecandy commercial towers for skyline looks. I have an idea in my head what I want my skyline to look like once the city is filled out and so I zone for that early on. This method took me years to perfect and now I start cities almost monthly when I get inspired by real life. I will post some pics later. -
Ideas for realistic city layout development by "house rules"
Srawldaddy74 replied to whiteboybob's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Yeah I know what you mean. I just bulldoze those buildings when they start growing. Especially when I have crafted my historic small town core just the way I like it. I have about half gig in BATs and mods. So when those maxis repeaters start popping up I get really annoyed and chop them down. I only plop when there is a specific look I am going for and when I do it is only a landmark version. NO job plopping for me it ruins gameplay. I have found that since I have played the game like this it is much more enjoyable almost like an artform than just playing a game or simulation. Ok that sounded a little cheesy but I find the experience more satisfying now instead of just tryiing to build out the whole region with all skyscrapers.... -
Ideas for realistic city layout development by "house rules"
Srawldaddy74 replied to whiteboybob's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I love this topic thought I was the only who has evolved in to a uber-micro manager of visual city layouts. I have for a year now started my cities with future infrastructure in mind. So that means if it is on a coast and will be a seaport city then rail has to be built first. Nothing like building a city and having to work in your rail later. I layout the town square for the historical core. Almost all of my cities that I build lately have a historic section and a new CDB with all of the office towers. Next consideration is I will only have 1 large city per region. Depending on the map I am using its usually the seaport city. I guess growing up on the east coast thats where the majority of the large cities are so its more realistic to me. When I say large I mean multiple CBDs with tall gleaming towers. For the most part I am partial to mid sized cities and I like to grow them to about 100,000 then I try to slow growth down. Like I said I try to manipulate the downtown area to a vision in my head. So If you can imagine the average American city of 100-150K thats the size of the CBD I strive for. Of course if it is growing really well I let it get a little bigger but I dont not encourage it. It has to happen on its own; organic growth. Residential area I handle as realistic as possible. I do like to switch things up and make each city unique but for the most part I have the mostly suburban type city the mixed/industrial city and the urban American northeast small city. If I have freeways, expressways and urban spurs I try to make them realistic. Such as having bypasses and loops. Also the urban spur that is trenched through downtown and the ever important airport spur. If I choose to put a mall in the city then it has to be accompanied with the associated commercial stores; such as fast food joint, hotels, gas stations and office parks. For the most part I try to stay pretty conservative unless I need to level the global commercial demand with a large city which is usually the case since I build small to mid sized cities that are all connected. Perhaps I will show some pictures of my micro managing ways if this topic lives long enough. -

What program to use for CJ/MD banners
Srawldaddy74 replied to Srawldaddy74's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks I will give it a try. -
I would like to put together a CJ but I am a rookie when it comes to making banners and road maps for my cities. I'm not looking for anything groundbreaking just a tutorial or something to point me in the right direction of how to make them or what program to use. Thanks

Introduction to Fairview 2.0
Srawldaddy74 commented on Mithrik's City Journal Entry in Fairview 2.0 (SC4)
Cant wait. Maybe I can get inspired to do my own focused small scale CJ. -
Started this waaaaaaay back in December. No real inspiration I just wanted to try to create a city that sits at the bottom of a plateau with smoothed cliffs and a broad river that widens to an eventual bay. I have to get the region population up before I start the simulation though. The type of buildings that I want for the city center dont show up until 50K regional. Yeah I plop but only landmarks or no job stat buildings. The game runs better that way. I get to sculpt the skyline like I want it but get to have "organic" growth at the same time. I should start a CJ...

Which feature From SimCity 4 will you miss the most in 2013
Srawldaddy74 replied to DmainEvent's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
UUUUUUUGHHH, all this time waiting and ths is what I have to look forward to. Well I will not be missng anything as I will not buy the game. SC4 is all that I need and until some game developer realizes that there is a boatload of money that can be made by taking SC4 RH and adding 3D gameplay/updating the game engine to make modding less buggy. Sure they can add in the online gaming and all of that stuff but as long as there is an option given to be online/offline. Thats all we want is options and not being forced to play and pay the way EA wants us to. I said if before and will say it again EA is too big to make decent games. They are my least favorite game developers. So if there are any future game dev's reading this if you want to make some money listen to the things that are being said in this thread...you wont be sorry.
