  8. As someone who has experience with modeling with mostly Blender, it's worth it. You can even get jobs if you have enough experience with it and fascinating times with it. One of the key things to remember about Blender is knowing the key sets, that is, shortcuts and knowing what they do. You also have to eventually understand how the 3D world works and how textures, the model, and everything works together to produce the final result. Textures are a breeze once you know what to do, screenshots, renders, etc, are all possible. Sometimes it's not about the learning curve for the program, its more about learning how to model that is the harder part. L.C.
  9. Commute and Interchange headache

UDI it literally or use the path checkers cheat (I don't have it up here but search around for that), that will check whether your intersection is properly connected. Check your off ramps in direction, NAM usually is a bit un-obvious when it's about knowing what way is which. Hope that helps, LC
  10. Show Us Your Skylines Interchanges

It's been a while since I last posted anything here, I guess I'll post something I did while in winter break... I've got other intersections, but the photos aren't up-to-date with the current city. (Yes, it's LHD as well.)
  11. Victorian Dam

You had me there for a while, I though you had McGuired a dam using the dam tool. Lovely how it turned out! The use of walls for corridors was the most scandalous thing I've seen since prop pox. (Although I suggest keeping an eye on seams tho, always pesky things)
  12. closed GOG.com City Builder Giveaway

Cities Skylines Tell us about your most memorable city-building experience, funny, tragic or otherwise. I've been through it all, floods, storms, explosions, lack of demand, goats, flying chirpers, and yet I've never have had an issue with utilities. Usually in SC4 I would have behemoth facilities producing everything from power, garbage, and water. However this philosophy doesn't apply once you get to CSL. Once upon a time I used to have one of my more daring adventures cities, Nagishima, in exploring uses with multi-lane railroad and urban planning, yet I never realized how difficult would utilities get now... (Futsukira, sister city of Nagashima) During the creation of that cities I ran into so many issues with utilities. The city ran on two separate rivers and I had used one river for water output and another for city water. However, the tapped city water drained that river completely, all the way down to drybed, limiting further city expansion. The next thing I knew, sewage began flowing upstream and polluting the city vistas! As if that was not enough, this happened additionally... (Yes this is old Vienna Power plant way back then...) Rampant blackouts, lack of funds, no water sources, there never seemed to be an end to the problem. Today most of this is "solved" using hydrophonic-infused hamsters turning giant wheels. We're also currently researching whether typing lemurs with keyboards would be a reasonable replacement as a renewable source of energy. In other news, it's always a sunny day in Night Vale with reports of wild rampant lizards and glow clouds...
  13. NAM 33 issue

If you notice closely at the roundabout, the paths are going the wrong way. Not sure if you want to repath simply the roundabout is very broken.
  14. Bikes and Taxis: do you use them?

I have about 10 taxi stations on a 115K city. Suffice to say, they always seem to spawn and go about getting lost, generally I don't really know what they do. My city was already built around a railroad system and was already too large to implement taxis. Quite frankly I would like a larger depot or something to muffle the noise a bit, the other day I checked the noise levels city-wide and it was 71% from all of the railroads.
  15. CitiesCorp Concept

Micromanagement inferno. Either it would be enjoyable for a few minutes with the right recipe or it can become a very furious micromanagement game if the UI and the tutorials don't help you much and the city becomes very large.

  17. NAM Visual Guide?

Coming back to the thread, I believe the problem with NAM as it stands is not the "Do this, don't do that" philosophy, it's mostly about the theme of things. For example, an American city wouldn't ever look like a European city, and an Asian city wouldn't compare to both of them either. It's been of a massive debate and hardship for myself to build on a theme that I have no idea other than assumptions and some occasional Gmap viewing. I am per say, someone too lazy to be bothered to go look up city planning but at the same time am forced to think in a manner unlike my own. So, what I believe you should do (and what future tutorials should do as well) is focus on what specific planning is generally accepted or what type of traffic system would you aim for. True it is hard to establish something like this, but it is how it works in reality. Primarily I am someone who builds on top of mass transit system wrapped along a gridded system. Should you ever take the monumental task of building a large city(or a region in general), I would suggest to view how high capacity interchanges are built and what governs capacity.

  19. Have you tried making a custom LUT? Its one of those things that change the ingame color palette.
  20. CSL will not load

I suggest nagging an extra 8GB of RAM if you are planning to go any further. Win 7 Home supports up to 16GB (I believe), and Skylines loves draining RAM for all sorts of things, in all seriousness mods drain so much RAM it's unbelievable.
