  1. Thank you! This mod is a lifesaver!   Also, it isn't compatible with ProcsKalone's Rotated Trainstation mod on my computer.
  2. Project Shinjidai - XoXiDe

    This is incredible and beautiful!
  3. Same problem with me in the new game. I built a park, razed it, but I couldn't build a new one on the same plot. I zoomed in and found phantom props -park benches and whatnot- left over from the razed park lot. I've seen this problem before, in SC4. I forgot how to fix it, and I'm not sure if it coupd be applied to the new game.
  4. 12633 Memorial

Great building. I think the parking lot is perfect size for most business parks.
  5. TG SF McKesson Building

I love diagonals! This is very useful!
  6. Here's what happens. I have high demand for industry. I zone for industry. My industry grows, but only like 10 of my sims work there. Even if it's only a block away! If there are commercial zones slightly closer, they'll work there no problem. Here's what I think is up. I need less commercial/more residential. I need to dumb down my sims. What's my best bet?
  7. Necessity of Highways

As long as you dont try to lower the terrain where the tunnel mouths are they will keep on keepin' on.quote> I do this with my rail. In my high-density areas, they cause more traffic problems than they solve if they aren't underground. Occasionally, they'll poke out of the ground for a station or a bend, but otherwise they won't show themselves unless they are back in medium or low-density areas.
  8. Necessity of Highways

My cities have awkward road patterns, making highway placement impractical. And when I do use highways, it is more for aesthetic and realism points than for practical purposes. To make highways effective, you need large zones of residential, and a highway bisecting the zone. If the highway takes them to commercial and industrial zones, then it will be used a lot. If you just lay the highway down all willy-nilly where you think it looks realistic (like I do), it won't necessarily be used.
  9. NDEX Steffenson Hjornet

this will look wonderful on me
  10. Show us your unique SUNKEN NETWORKS!

^ was from an old city, West Tyger. It had a sunken highway bisecting the city that mostly took people to the focus downtown city, Tyger. This next pic is from my new city, Luda: The sunken/underground rail is a heavily used commuter option, taking people straight to downtown areas.

  13. SF 680 Folsom Revisited

The night-lighted window pattern looks vaguely like a Space Invaders alien.
  14. DK1 Small Church

Thanks! This is perfect for my towns. Simple and realistic.
  15. I build a little satellite town far from where I want my actual city to be. I sustain it with a fire station, a clinic and an elementary school, all with a small radius. The town usually follows no grid pattern of any sort, so it's very flowy. It makes good money because it's so efficient utility-wise, and I use the funds to build coal power plants, waste disposal and dirty industry there. Then, I start building my actual city. I start building loosely gridded neighborhoods around the center using medium density housing and some commercial on the main roads. I connect the satellite town to the actual city with an avenue and rail. I work my way into the city with gridded commercial zones, and I work my way out with non-gridded, low-density res and pockets of industry.
  16. Rich Neighborhoods

To make a building historical: Click on a building using the Query Tool (the question mark) Click on the little check box on the bottom of the Query window The building will become historical. That's what I do to keep my city full of low- and med-wealth rowhouses.
  17. Simtropolis Site Bugs

No matter what I type into the search bar on the left-side menu, I always get this message: Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words. So yeah, what's up with that? Is it just me? I tried searching the forum for things like "road" or "Dirk" with no success.

  19. What Do You Think About Cities XL?

I'm worried that Cities XL will be difficult to control. With all these features and a demanding fanbase, I'm sure it's a challenge to keep the ease of gameplay at a reasonable level. I hope it doesn't turn out to be like the AutoCAD or Maya interface, holding Ctrl + Shift and clicking and dragging the middle mouse button just to change the camera view, etc.
  20. Show us your city, road or transit maps!

I just read this thread earlier today and was floored by these amazing maps. I just had to make my own: And the city:
