City-building game(s)

  1. I'm trying to revitalise one of my biggest cities with apartment blocks from Bixel (the HK-style ones). The city I'm trying to revitalise is quite cookie-cutter and planned out. Whenever I try to plop a Bixel building in a residential area, it always keeps abandoning because of "commute time" and other nonsense. I even tried doing one of these apartments next to commercial areas, even right next to the central business district, and it still said "long commute time" and became abandoned. This is very frustrating. Can anyone help me with this? I'll take a picture of my situation when requested.

Team Grater presents McKesson Building BAT created by bixel Modding & lot design by bixel readme by bixel Check out Bixel's SF Buildings at Simtropolis Introduction / Overview McKesson Plaza (Building) is an office skyscraper located on Market Street in San Francisco's Financial District. The building, completed in 1969, stands 529 feet (161 m) tall and has 38 floors. McKesson Corporation is headquartered in this tower. McKesson HBOC is one of San Francisco's Top 5 head offices with sales of US$52 billion in 2002. - The Crocker Galleria is an open-air retail mall located at the building's base, largest of its kind downtown. - Granite and marble highlight the 30-foot high all-glass entrance lobby. - Rests on the site formally occupied by the Crocker Building. - The exterior is constructed of 1 inch thick Norwegian granite mounted on precast concrete panels. This building was used for the exterior shots of Cathedral Software in the 1995 film The Net, starring Sandra Bullock, Jeremy Northam, and Dennis Miller. Installation Simply unzip the content of this archive into your plugins folder and delete all the lots you don't want. It is generally recommendable to unzip the entire download into a backup folder first and then copy only those files that you want into a sub-folder inside your main plugins folder. This procedure makes it easier to keep full control and leave out files that are not required in game, such as this readme and the screenshots. In case you are looking for any .SC4desc files, these have been merged with the associated lot files to reduce clutter. Due to the individual names of each lot, I needed one desc per lot anyway, so this method suggested itself. To uninstall a version you don't like, just delete the lot file from your plugins folder. IMPORTANT: If any instance of the lot in question has already grown in one or more cities, first bulldoze all instances of that version in all your cities, then save the cities and exit. Now you can safely remove the version without running any risk to experience crashes or any other inconvenience. Bixel on behalf of Team Grater Sunday, December 14, 2008

For four decades, the AT&T complex at Third and Folsom streets has been an imposing concrete fortress designed to keep the public at bay and business operations as secure and secretive as possible. Now TMG Partners and RREEF are getting ready to bring air and light -- and the public -- into the two-building property with a $200 million renovation and expansion the developers hope will transform the property into one of the most desirable office buildings south of Market. The Hong Kong / Asia BAT Team presents The Harbourside(v2.0)BAT created by bixel Modding, menu icons & lot design by T Wrecks readme by bixel Check out the Hong Kong /Asia BAT Team room at Simtropolis Introduction / Overview The Harbourside is a 255m (836.6ft) tall residential skyscraper located at 1 Austin Road, in Union Square complex on Kowloon peninsula. The building is erected on the West Kowloon Reclamation west of Kwun Chung. Construction of the 74 storey building began in 2000 and was completed in 2003 under the design by P & T Architects & Engineers. The building is, in fact, three towers joined at the base, middle and top however from a distance it appears as one wall of a building. The gaps between the towers help relieve the stress caused by the wind as the building has a large surface area which results in it acting as a sail. It was constructed as part of the Kowloon Station development and was the fourth phase. All floors are used for residential purposes. The tower is the 91st tallest building in the world when measured up to the highest architectural point. 7. Tai Pan Terrace

    36,047 Downloads

The Hong Kong / Asia BAT Team presents Tai-Pan Terrace BAT created by bixel Modding, lot design & readme by T Wrecks Check out the Hong Kong / Asia BAT Team Room at Simtropolis Introduction / Overview Tai-Pan Terrace is a regular growable R$$ building that houses 3,382 sims. Its design is based on the previously uploaded "Chelsea Court" residential complex from Hong Kong. This tower is the result of me bugging bixel long and persistently enough with my request for an individual tower instead of huge mega-lots.... The working title of this BAT used to be "T Wrecks Tower" because bixel made it as per my request and wanted to leave it to me for upload on the STEX. However, I found it rather odd to have a tower with my ST nickname in game, so that I decided to name the tower "Tai-Pan Terrace" instead. This name is my personal little tribute to the writer James Clavell, who wrote several novels which had Hong Kong as their setting, one of them titled "Tai-Pan". This Chinese word was originally coined for important Western businessmen who did business in the former British crown colony Hong Kong. Clavell's novels (a recommendable read, btw!) were my first connection with Hong Kong, and my involvement in the HKABT is the second - so I thought: "Why not combine both?" What you see here is the result, and I do hope you will like it! On a more technical note, this building is intended as a contrast to the huge multi-tower complexes, and a back-to-the-roots experience. This means regular lot size, regular growable, no dependencies, no extreme figures. Lot-wise, I went for a simple, sleek and modern approach that would hopefully recreate the impression of a brand new building. There is some nice detail behind this simplicity, but you'll have to look close... In total, you will find the following versions: transit-enabled growable R$$ (default US road texture) transit-enabled growable R$$ (Euro road texture) This means that depending on which road texture set you use in game, you can choose the version that integrates with that set seamlessly. A small reminder concerning transit-enabled growables: The garage entrance should connect to the road in front of the building automatically, or you can connect it manually. In any case, the road connection is merely a visual gimmick and doesn't influence the functionality of this building. Another point to keep in mind is that once a transit-enabled lot has grown, it will not be overgrown or split automatically. I don't see this building popping up too much, but due to its lot size it could easily be split in two 3x3 lots and get overgrown. Thus, the transit-enabling feature should not become a problem, but rather help you to keep a "Tai-Pan Terrace" once it has grown. Otherwise, it's bulldozer time... No Dependencies Stats and Values All game-relevant values you might like to know are listed in the following overview tables. The Hong Kong / Asia BAT Team presents Chelsea Court Roundabout Filler BAT created by bixel Modding, lot design & readme by T Wrecks Check out the Hong Kong / Asia BAT Team Room at Simtropolis Introduction / Overview This little lot is based on a sculpture prop that will be part of the upcoming Chelsea Court download by bixel. When I saw that round sculpture, I thought that it would look nice in the middle of a roundabout, so I decided to make this mini-release as an appetizer for Chelsea Court. You won't need this as a dependency for Chelsea Court, Chelsea Court will come as a complete package and include the sculpture prop. This is just an optional little eye-candy lot. You know me, I always try to get as many uses as possible out of something, so I couldn't help myself and had to do this. Since I can see some questions coming, here are some hints: If you don't know how to get those roundabouts: You will need the Network Addon Mod (NAM), which you can find in the "Modds and Downloads" Section. Make sure you read the readme thoroughly, and take care to select whatever you want to be included during the installation process. For example, if you don't install the roundabout plugin, you will not be able to build roundabouts, NAM or not. If you have the NAM and the roundabout plugin is installed, but you don't know how to draw a roundabout: Have a look at this picture taken by Andreas Roth: How to draw a one-way roundabout. Note that you should leave the centre tile empty if you want to use this filler on it. The instructions in the screenshot refer to putting a Maxis sculpture prop there and will not work for this filler, which is inserted manually, just like any other park or plaza lot. Dependencies Textures: none! Props: none! Stats and Values This time we can keep it short: Stats-wise, this little roundabout filler is a mixture between the Maxis 1x1 open grass area and the 1x1 plaza tile. This means that it has a slight attractivity boost for residential and commercial areas nearby,

This is the 2nd HK Tower Pack. Unlike the 1st Pack this one has some Med Res Towers that are slightly more modern looking. Remember, both the HKTowerPack1 and this 2ndTowerPack buildings will not grow unless you zone dense 2x2 blocks. I noticed during game play some towers like to grow more than others, to fix this I changed their Res Occupation values so that they were relatively closer to each other on an average. Hopefully this will cause them to grow a little more evenly. (If anybody has some better ideas to a solution to this please PM me.) So finally here's what you get. From the Day picture starting Left to Right TowerOccupation Saiwan Tower 1130 R$$ Saiwan Tower 1210 R$$ Saiwan Tower 950 R$$ Be sure to read the README included in the download, there is some extra info there you might want to look at. I call these the Saiwan Towers after looking at some photos of the Saiwan district in HK. Enjoy!
