@gutterclub After seeing the big discussion you guys had in 2018 (lol) I did the first building with the method I posted. Took a few hours, just lots of PS tiling and resizing. No night lights, otherwise works totally fine. SC4 Model attached, upload if you want! BldgFix-0x5ad0e817_0xd8da3ab4_0x30000.SC4Model PLOP_4x2_BldgFix_06c473cd.SC4Lot

Hi Guys! Yep... I've decided to take up BATing (Something I've wanted to do ever since I herd about it but never had the time or effort to take it up.) At the moment I’m re-creating Hong Kong for a City Journal project if you don't already know and even though there's a massive amount of custom content already available for the city, I have a list of buildings that I really want to add to my collection, so that's why I'm here. My current project is this. Here's some new preview renders... Here's an in game render I made a few days ago. The Prince of Wales building or The Chinese People's Liberation Army Forces Hong Kong Building (It was re-named in 2002 after the Chinese take over of Hong Kong in 1997) is a 120m, 28 floor high building in the Admiralty district of Central Hong Kong Island. In real life it's smack bang between the Far East Finance Centre (Released by PaulvMontfort on the STEX) and the Bank of America tower. It was constructed in 1976. At the moment it's just a bunch of rectangles with textures on it. I'm gonna be honest and tell you that the windows on the tower body are just textured on. Since that last render I've re-done the roof textures, made the tower a little higher and started to add some roof junk. I've still got to add way more detail to the roofs and walls, add the windows to the base and add night lights. I've already made the lot (2 dependencies for now) as you can see. But before I can go any further I have some questions that I really hope somebody can answer. 1. If you look at the textures on the body of the tower their all messed up and they change (warp) as you rotate around the building. Why is this? It’s fine in the game though. 2. I need a BAT tutorial that explains how to make shapes more complex than just rectangles and boxes and cylinders ect, dose anyone know where a really good one is? 3. What is 3ds Max? Heaps of people seem to be using this over Gmax now. What are the advantages of 3ds Max and can you download it for free or do you have to pay? EDIT: Thanks for your helps!

I noticed that every second thread in this forum seems to be asking this same question. The lot editor can be downloaded either directly from the SC4 Official Website, or alternatively from the fan site sc4devotion.com. If you are experiencing problems with your log-on at the official site, go to SC4D as it requires no log-on. • Lot Editor Download Page - SC4 Official Website (http://simcity.ea.com/index.php) • Lot Editor Download Page - SC4D (https://www.sc4devotion.com/index.php?) It is also recommended that you download bldgprop_vol1.dat (Sim City 4 Buildings as Props) and bldgprop_vol2.dat (Rush Hour Buildings as Props) as they add extra props to the lot editor, as well as being a dependency for many lots on the STEX. A tutorial on the workings of the lot editor can be found right here on Simtropolis in our omnibus. • Lot Editor: Beginner's Tutorial If you have any questions concerning this, be sure to bring it up in the Lot Editor - Help thread. *reason for edit - re-pinned sticky - sam

Grow the Empire State Building Modding / Lotting & Readme – Cockatoo. Overview: While browsing through some of my older cities today, I suddenly thought… “How great would it be to see that Empire State Building growing right out of my downtown, instead of having to plop in that lifeless landmark all the time”… I searched the STEX to see if there was a lot available, but there wasn’t. Hence this very small download, my Growable Empire State Building. With 8940 medium wealth commercial office jobs, it is relatively easy to grow with a standard Rush Hour city; it should appear around the same as the high end Maxis commercial office towers. Be sure to zone the appropriate 8x4 tile area (hold down +Ctrl while zoning) and enable either the Chicago or New York tilesets. The stats are as follows: GROWABLE CO§§ Size: 8x4 Occupants: CO§§ 8940 Growth Stage: Stage 8 Zone Type: High Density Commercial Tilesets: Chicago & New York Power Used: 183 MWh per Month Water Used: 1839 Gallons per Month Flammability: 40 – Stage 4 Garbage Generated: 18 Tones per Month Air Pollution: 36 / 5 Tiles Water Pollution: 36 / 6 Tiles Bulldoze Cost: §5110 Dependencies: These are the files you need for this lot to be able to function in the game… None Today. The Empire State Building model and all the props / textures used on this lot come standard with SimCity 4. Installation: Copy the Cockatoo folder into the Plugins folder. If you are looking for the descriptor file (.SC4Desc), it has been merged into the lot file for added convenience. If you have any problems with my custom content, please send me (Cockatoo-210893) a private message at either Simtropolis or SC4Devotion.com. My BAT threads: ST, SC4D. -

Cockatoo Presents… World Trade Plaza Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo. Original models – Rubik3 and the BSC team. Overview: In the original upload of the World Trade Centre complex, there are three black plaza buildings (WTC’s 4, 5 & 6) that fill out the area around the base of the two towers. These buildings have always looked great on that lot, but sometimes are obscured by the towers themselves, so I’ve created a lot where two these buildings (WTC’s 4 & 5) can be seen clearly. They’re positioned on a sprawling plaza lot that should easily fit into any downtown or commercial district. I’ve modded two versions, the first, World Trade Plaza, is a plopable commercial that provides a good amount of medium-wealth jobs and the second, World Trade Park, provides a park effect that should encourage commercial growth. These lots were made with the X_Tool, so they don’t spread malaria to third world countries! In this download there are two versions included: Plopable functional COS§§ providing 4310 medium wealth jobs. Plopable park lot. For those who use Submenu DLL and have WTC Complex - SC4D LEX Legacy - BSC Custodian Rubik, you can find the lots in the WTC Submenu. The stats are as follows: PLOPABLE CO§§ Size: 20x6 Occupants: CO§§ 4310 Power Used: 190 MWh per Month Water Used: 215 Gallons per Month Flammability: 40 – Stage 4 Garbage Generated: 18 Tones per Month Air Pollution: 12 / 5 Tiles Water Pollution: 16 / 6 Tiles Bulldoze Cost: §2010 Plop Cost: §132,440 Menu Position: Landmark Menu, near bottom PARK Size: 20x6 Power Used: 42 MWh per Month Water Used: 65 Gallons per Month Flammability: 0 – Stage 0 Garbage Generated: 0 Tones per Month Air Pollution: -240 / 26 Tiles Water Pollution: 13 / 13 Tiles Bulldoze Cost: §130 Plop Cost: §4800 Monthly Cost: §600 Landmark Effect: 140 / 10 Tiles Menu Position: Park Menu, near bottom Dependencies: This lot is made up almost entirely of external dependencies. You will need to make sure that you have every single listed dependency installed before you can use this lot. I’ve broken with my usual policy of trying to keep dependencies to a minimum, however most of the packs used are very common… and really are great props in themselves that are worth the download anyway. Asakusa Tourist Centre by Cockatoo Originally modelled for separate project, I've brought my rough re-creation the Asakusa Tourist Centre (Asakusa, Japan) to SimCity 4. I’ve made available a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t, select your version after pressing the download button. Models have also been exported in HD for your zoom-6 viewing pleasure. Three lots are available: A growable stage 5 CS§§§ providing 24 medium wealth jobs, a plopable functional CS§§§ providing 24 high wealth jobs and a plopable static landmark. All fit nicely onto a 1x1 left-hand corner lot. There are no dependencies. Copy the Cockatoo folder into the Plugins folder. Select whether to use the Maxis Nite (MN) or Dark Nite (DN) version, deleting the MN or DN folders accordingly. Post problems in the comments section, or send me a PM. If your nightlights aren't working (yeah, I get a lot of messages about this), please make sure you've updates your game. Cheers! Cockatoo. -

SimCity 4 Ultimate Dependency Package - April 2012 Every dependency... ever - all in one simple, easy to install file. Over the course of the past eight years, additional files required for the correct functioning of many custom creations, also known as dependencies, have become an unavoidable necessity for anyone seeking to extensively modify their game. However, due to the inability of many to read or understand readme files, very few people can actually boast of a plugins folder containing every dependency file required for their needs. Today however, thanks to a revolutionary breakthrough in the field of file compression, we plan to once and for all put this issue to rest. Approximately 10 months ago, RippleTurbine, a prominent member both here at Simtropolis and SC4inmotion.com, discovered a way to drastically reduce the filesizes of the DAT file format - the file format used to store dependency files. In a nutshell, he found that by compressing the Hex value of an exemplar to better suit the games fundamental attributes, code could be shared across various files in incremental stages known as TGI's. It sounds complicated (I know I didn't understand it at first!) but basically what this means is that a DAT file previously weighing in at about 85MB could be reduced to only as little as 265KB via this code sharing technique! The implications of the discovery were huge. Not only would it mean that loading times could be reduced from minutes to seconds, but that dependencies would never again work in the same way. Over these past 10 months, I, along with various others in the community, have been working together to construct a mega-dependency-package to end all other packages. We've systematically purged every major exchange in the community, along with several of the prominent non-English sites, to bring you a in a single download a file containing almost every dependency ever created. Best of all, uncompressed, this file came to an astounding 2.65GB, but by using our compression technique, we have managed to bring the filesize down to just a little over 1MB! Got a lot that's missing a base texture... don't know where on earth to find it? Lost the readme? No problems! Chances are, it's included in this download. You'll never have to go hunting again! Now admittedly, we haven’t got everything. Some creators were reluctant to give us permission to use their files, and others simply could not be contacted. We do estimate however that we have between 96-98% of all dependency files ever uploaded to a major exchange. Perhaps most importantly, the major ones are all there, including all files from the BCS, Network Modd Addons and SimPig teams. Although, despite our efforts, we know that new dependencies will not stop popping up just because of this upload. To remedy this, we plan to update this file once a year on the 1st of April. -

The Hong Kong/ Asia BAT Team Presents… AIG Tower Model, Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo. Overview: After what, two years, the long awaited AIG Tower has finally arrived. Let’s be honest, my first attempt at this building was, although well received, horrible. I’d only been BATing for a few months and the model itself was heavily flawed. However, with two years experience now under my belt, I can now finally do this building justice. I won’t bother listing the improvements made to the first version because, well, there isn’t a single thing that hasn’t been improved - it’s a totally new model made with a totally different program. The main points are that the model is now accurately shaped, scaled, textured and has night lighting that resembles that of the real building. As we all know, since I started this project, the world has endured its greatest financial trouble since the great depression. Because of this, AIG lost its Hong Kong offices and the building is now called AIA Central. However, this project was started when AIG still had the offices (and I’m too lazy to re-name all my files!) so I’m sticking with the name and logo of AIG. I payed attention to real life when making the model, and I also payed attention when modding it! Be warned, AIG is a troubled company these days! They have greedy executives who need like to spend all their shareholders money on gold watches and private jets and you’ll pay for this! Expect to fork out a ridiculous amount of money every month to ‘bail out AIG’ when using the landmark lot. In this download there are three versions included: Growable stage 8 CO§§ providing 2424 medium wealth jobs. Growable stage 11 CO§§ providing 4360 medium wealth jobs. (CAM) Plopable functional CO§§ providing 4360 medium wealth jobs. Plopable static landmark. The stats are as follows: It's all in the README. Dependencies: These are the files you need for these lots to be able to function in the game… • None today. Installation: Copy the HKBAT folder into the Plugins folder. The United Nations Project Proudly Presents… The United Nations Building Contributors to the project include: Amthaak, Cockatoo, Jasoncw and SimFox And a special thanks goes to everyone in the Simtropolis BAT forums who provided us with feedback, support and that all important motivation to get stuff done… Overview: Finally… it’s done. After 18 months of modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering, problems, more problems, hotfixes and caffeine, it gives me great pleasure to finally be able to share with you the fruits of our labour! The United Nations Building (or Headquarters) was constructed on a dedicated site overlooking the banks of New York City's East River to house the newly formed body in the wake of the Second World War. An icon of modernist Architecture, the complex was collaboratively designed by a group of leading Architects of the period, including Oscar Niemeyer and even the famed Le Corbusier. At the time of its construction, the complex was revolutionary in both building techniques and design, being one of the first constructions in the world to sport a sleek modernist exterior that is now common in cities all over the world. Aside from occasional renovations and several additional structures, the complex remains in much the same state today as it did almost 60 years ago. Done in much the same spirit as the real world building, we set out to recreate the massive complex collaboratively. The foundations were laid out in Australia with building plans being flown in from Finland. The glass, marble and asphalt were all imported from the United States and the fountain was especially made in France. This really was an international effort. Just fitting into a single model file, the complex measures an enormous 18x11 SC4 tiles, making it one of the largest modes to ever be exported for this game. Additionally, weighing in at a massive 14.5 million polygons as well as utilising many of 3ds Max's more advanced features, it's also one of the heaviest models ever exported, requiring no less than 8GB of memory to resolve. We tried our best to re-create the complex with as much attention to detail and accuracy as possible, and we hope you'll enjoy seeing our creation in your cities. Versions Available: We’ve made available a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t. Select the version appropriate to you after clicking the download button. There are also two different lot files that can be installed. They are listed below. A growable stage 8 CO§§ providing 5983 medium wealth jobs. A growable stage 12 CO§§ providing 17,943 medium wealth jobs. (CAM) A Plopable CO§§ A plopable static landmark. For those who use Submenu DLL, you will find the Landmark version in the dedicated submenu for the United Nations. The stats are as follows: See the readme for full details. Dependencies: These are the files you need for these lots to be able to function in the game… • None! Installation: Copy the Cockatoo folder into the Plugins folder. Select whether to use the Maxis Nite (MN) or Dark Nite (DN) version, deleting the MN or DN folders accordingly. If you want to use the CAM version, you must also copy the CAM folder. New year, new projects. This time round, it'll be Canada's Toronto-Dominion Centre, a large financial complex located in the heart of Toronto. Constructed in the late 60's and gradually added to over the second half of the twentieth century, the TDC is home to almost 21,000 workers on any given day. This exceptionally large complex, consisting of 6 individual towers and a large glass pavilion, is spread out over an area expected to translate to 17x9 grid tiles in SC4. We'll also be modelling and releasing a seventh tower and smaller complex located near the main complex in real life, which is generally regarded as part of the centre as a whole. All seven towers will also be rendered and lotted separately from main the complex for those who would like to use them individually. Kellydale2003, who initiated this project, will be at the helm. He'll be taking care of most of the architectural modelling. I've joined him in his efforts and will be taking care of the grounds and the flora, as well as assisting in any way I can with texturing, night-lighting and the export. Kelly's far too busy BATing at the moment to be starting any BAT threads, but he has put together an accurate model sketch of the complex and has almost completed one of the towers already. He'd like you to know that the night lighting is still far from finished. I've been doing some basic work on the grounds of the main complex. (We've made the decision to alter the elevation of the grounds and some aspects of its design to better suit the game environment, but we're trying to stay as close to the real thing as we possibly can.) Done in the same way as the United Nations Project was, this will be a collaborative effort. If you're competent in 3ds Max (2010+), reliable and would be willing to assist with this massive project, even if only in a small way, we'd really love to hear from you. From my own experience I can say that working on a big project with other BATers can be extremely rewarding. We'll be trying our best to recreate this complex as accurately as possible and we'll be incorporating some of the most advanced BATing techniques available. We hope to have the model in a near completed state before the middle of the year. So, let's get started then...

The Hong Kong/ Asia BAT Team Presents… Aurora Plaza Model, Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo. Overview: Aurora Plaza is a big shiny tower in Shanghai. In real life, at night, it features a 15 story high video screen on its front facade, but because not everybody wants to see a giant depiction of a puppet Kim Jong Il in their cities, I’ve included two versions of the model. The no screen version features brighter orange night-lighting (which I think looks better) while the screen version has dimmer green lighting and of course, the giant video screen, similar to that of the real building. In this download there are four versions included: Growable Stage 8 CO§§ providing 3355 medium wealth jobs. Plopable functional CO§§ providing 3355 medium wealth jobs. Growable Stage 11 CO§§ providing 6818 medium wealth jobs. (CAM) Plopable static landmark. The stats are as follows: Ahh, I get sick of typing them out every time. Overview: Tomorrow Square - a futuristic building completed around 2003 located in Shanghai, China. I’m calling this BAT a ‘partial’ recreation because several aspects of the model differ from the real world building, mainly around the base. The main part of the tower, its shape, size and proportions however remain true to the real structure. I’ve included a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t. In this download there are three versions included. Growable stage 8 CO§§ providing 2577 medium wealth jobs. Growable stage 14 CO§§ providing 6695 medium wealth jobs. (CAM) Plopable functional CO§§ providing 6695 medium wealth jobs. The Hong Kong/ Asia BAT Team Presents Hong Kong Immigration Tower BAT, LOT, MODDING and README by Cockatoo-210893 Overview: The Hong Kong Immigration Tower is a 177 metre high 49 floor skyscraper located in the heart of Hong Kong. It’s right next to one of the most famous skyscrapers in the city, the Central Plaza tower, and just opposite the Hong Kong convention and exhibition centre. The Hong Kong/ Asia BAT Team Presents… Majestic Hotel Model, Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo. Overview: The Majestic is a mid-rise hotel located In the Jordan District of the Kowloon Peninsular in Hong Kong. I’ve stayed there a few times, it’s a nice place, not what you’d expect from that part of town. Unfortunately there are some issues with the night-lighting on zoom’s 1, 2 & 3. The roof appears brightly illuminated on these zoom levels while not on the two closest. This was just Gmax playing silly buggers during the render, there’s nothing that can be done, but luckily the lighting can only be fully appreciated from zoom’s 4 and 5 anyway. This download is a near accurate representation of the real life building for SC4. These lots were made with the X_Tool, so they don’t give you smart ass remarks if you try to delete them. In this download there are three versions included: Growable Stage 7 CS§§ providing 1949 medium wealth jobs. Growable Stage 13 CS§§ providing 2225 medium wealth jobs. Just a quick 'flyover' I'm afraid. I will try to log in a little more often though... I had PM's from Janurary. It's great people are still comming up with new BATing techniques like this. Looking over some of the stuff that's been made in the past year, it's seriously impressive. Oh yeah, and I third that too. The roof on this thing is drop-dead gourgous, the base might look better with more contrast i.e. lighter greens.

Heh I remember this from ages ago. Nice work man, looks great. At a guess, the bowl provides a better aproximation of real reflections; gives them a vertical component.
