Maputo
Originally founded by the Portuguese in the 1700s under the name Lourenço Marques (a name it kept until 1976), Mozambique's capital city of Maputo has continued to grow over the centuries and today is one of the Indian Ocean's most important port cities. Known for beautiful architecture, vibrant nightlife, and its diverse culture, Maputo has gained a reputation as one of the region's best tourist destinations - so let's take a look at this lively city.
We'll start with a view of Maputo Railway Station and Workers' Square. Although Maputo is smaller and less crowded than many other capitals in the region, things can still get quite busy during rush hour.
A look at one of the city's most iconic landmarks - the stunning Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception during the midst of rush hour traffic.
Located on the country's beautiful Indian Ocean shoreline, Maputo is in close proximity to many of the region's most pristine beaches. Small, quaint fishing villages like the one below are a common sight in the area.
