Our trip to Paris continues with a trip to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica (Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris) - one of Paris' most beautiful churches, often drawing comparisons to the Taj Mahal. Located on top of a small hill in the heart of the city, the church is visible for miles around.

The next stop is Place de la Concorde - Paris' most famous square. Originally designed in 1755, this square is unlike anything else in the city - complete with a massive authentic Egyptian obelisk in the middle.

The Panthéon, located in Paris' Latin Quarter, is another one of the cities most famed landmarks. Originally modeled after Rome's Pantheon and built as a church - it now functions as a mausoleum for many of France's most famous citizens.

The Bourse de commerce is one of the city's most unique buildings, both in shape and function. It was originally used as a place to trade grain upon completion in 1763, then as a stock exchange, and more recently, plans are underway to transform it into a major art museum.

The 689 foot tall Tour Montparnasse is the tallest skyscraper in Paris - and is hard to miss. Upon completion in 1973, the building was heavily criticized for its style and for being out of place - and as a result, buildings over 7 stories tall were banned from the city center. A massive renovation is slated to begin in 2019.

Our tour of Paris ends with one of the city's most famous landmarks - the Arc de Triomphe. Built between 1803 and 1836, this iconic monument serves as a tribute to French soldiers lost in wars and has important military leaders engraved on its walls. For those wishing to get up close - make sure you use the underground tunnels instead of dodging the traffic..

The self-proclaimed 'rulers' sure like their Cleopatra Needles/Obelisks.....

It's a good thing that drab tower is going to get renovated - wonder what they plan on doing with it.   I'm guessing that's not the Maxis Arc de Triomphe you got there.. *:P

Outstanding work @korver .   I'd be interested to know how you did the roadwork around the archway... *:D   (and some overview shots of Paris would also be cool!  *:8))

Thanks for sharing buddy!

... and you did it.

I was thinking if you would be thinking of tackling that 8-lane roundabout monster Place Charles de Gaulle is and damn... you even nailed the texturing!

How could you not tackle 'Place de la Concorde' and 'Arc de Triomphe'? And boy did you pull them off!

It's almost like visiting Paris!

If only in SC4 we could be able to see the underground world that this wonderful city hides...

Nice work!!!

EDIT: I love your gifs.

Stunning work once again Korver. The pics of the Panthéon brings me back memories, as my university was just there, and I made my life in Paris pretty much around that building.

Also, parisians say that best views of Paris are seen from the Tour Montparnasse observation deck... because you can't see Tour Montparnasse from there *:P

@RobertLM78 Thank you for the nice comment! I've seen a couple of the renderings and apparently they're going to put a huge glass covering over it - it does look a bit better imo. And yeah, I used Xannepan's Arc De Triomphe opposed to the Maxis one in the update, it was too stunning to pass up. I created all the textures from scratch around it though which took about an eternity *:P I might consider doing another Paris update down the road, but I'm working on about 10 other cities so it could be a while *:P

@mike_oxlong Thanks for the nice words *:thumb:

@TekindusT Thank you very much - that scene probably took the longest out of them all, making that massive texture was a real pain lol. Glad you liked it!

@dabadon5 Thank you for the comment and kind words! *:)

@_Michael Thank you! Those were certainly some of the most time consuming pics, but of course I couldn't pass them up *;) Glad you liked it!

@Mr Saturn64 Thanks for the comment *:thumb:

@Angry Mozart Thank you very much! Unfortunately that's the one downside with the camera angle - it really would be quite fascinating to see some of those areas! Anyways, I'm going to keep on trying to incorporate some more animations into my updates - they really bring the game to life *:)

@The British Sausage Thank you for the comment!

@SC4L0ver Thank you! I actually read that saying a while back and got a laugh *:P Glad you enjoyed the Panthéon pic - it's one of my favorites in Paris, truly a stunning building!

Sorry, I'm a bit late for art class getting a comment in.   Using less cloudiness there's more depth of space and boldness of structure.   The HD pictures seem to show more detail than the eye sees in reality.   The snow scene makes me want to sing Christmas songs.

EfNyn80.jpgIt is delightful. How have you made it? Roads on diagonals and the Place de la Concorde?

@Zerx Thanks, see my reply on the London Landmarks entry, that should explain things a bit - it's just a big texture I made and I put it on a flat prop.

There was one more small question. You manually creates textures of roads in 3dsmax or you take a ready photo and just you render it?
