Finally, after some minor problems, I'm calling my first housing pack done. All possible combinations are shown below:

Before uploading this, I have one question (probably a stupid one): I've used prop families and I have three DAT files in total. Two prop families have 3 props each and the last one has 4. I have to upload each prop's corresponding SC4MODEL and SC4DESC files in addition to the DAT file itself, right?

Depends on what's in the DAT files, really. DATs can contain pretty much any SC4-related file type(s), so there really is no telling without further information.

    In any case, you need:

    • ONE instance of each model
    • ONE instance of each building desc
    • ONE instance of each prop desc
    • plus any lot files.

Doesn't matter whether these are inside the DAT or loose, as long as they're present.

As for the buildings themselves, I love the models and the variation! However, I think the darker textures on the first ones are too saturated. Other than that, it looks like a splendid addition! :golly:

@T Wrecks Ah, thanks, got it. Glad you like the houses!

@T Wrecks and @Gn_leugim: I've slightly desaturated some textures, it does look a bit better now I think, but you be the judge. :D

    ****

Updated version of one of the models. I've desaturated both the roof and the wood texture.

    Before (left) and after(right):

Another model. It's a C$ warehouse (loosely based on this). Added some painted over graffiti to liven it up a bit.

@Gn_leugim: Thanks! I changed the texture slightly, as you recommended. And don't worry, you will see this last building in my C$ pack next week, I'm almost done with the last store ;) .

    ****

I've finally uploaded my first housing pack! Thanks to all of you for your recommendations. You can download it here

Also, as I told Gn_leugim, I will probably upload my C$ pack next week, so stay tuned!

In all cases the Occupant Size is the problematic one, but I'm not so sure what is wrong, because the values look right; it may be just a syntax error?

@matias93 Ah shoot. I really wouldn't know what the error is. I got the houses to grow correctly, but I don't use the Datpacker. I can check and see if there's anything strange.

I just had a look at these "faulty" exemplars.

So for example, if you open Casitas Cueto.dat, the three prop exemplars here all have the value 0 for the Occupant Size. Here's what you need to do:

    1. Double click Occupant Size, a window opens up.
    2. Click Add on the right, until there are three white boxes.
    3. Enter .5 into each of the three boxes.
    4. Click Apply (in the bottom right).
    5. Click Apply (this time the one lower down on the left).
    6. Repeat for each Occupant Size property that is only 0.

    Now for the techy bit...

Occupant Size should be the LengthxHeightxWidth, so it needs three values or reps. The errors are because the data is not in the expected format.

That said, you should never use the Occupant Size 0,0,0. Because the bounding box of the object in the LE, will then be 0,0,0, i.e. you won't be able to see/select it. Also, very low values can cause problems, so shouldn't be used. Most modders use either .5,.5,.5 or 1,1,1 if they want a very small Occupant Size. Anything smaller is impractical.

Bear in mind, even with a tiny O/S, you probably don't want to be able to MMP a huge tree, so that it sticks out of the roof. So whilst a smaller size is often helpful, that may not apply to props like buildings. Often it's better to use the default, or just reduce that by say 1m on each axis. That setting will make it more MMP-friendly, whilst keeping a "dead zone" where the building will be.

An alternative to fixing this issue involves using the PIM-X. Highlight the affected building exemplar, right click on the values tab and select 'Rebuild Occupant Size from Model'. Re-adjust values if necessary and save.

By the way: Are you using a 'beta' version of Ilive's Reader, found on the forums? I remember encountering a very annoying bug where the program would reset the exemplar's Occupant Size to 0 whenever you modify any value. That alone made me go back to the old version you find on the STEX. Just letting you know ;)

Despite these issues, I like these models! I'm always searching for W2W Latin American houses, and these will work nicely for my cities. :thumb:

@rsc204 Thanks for explaining these technical details, I'm quite ignorant in this matter, so this is quite helpful. I tried doing what you told me to do, but, as Manuel-ito said, I apparently have this bug where the examplar's Occupant size stays at 0. I'll download the old version.

@Manuel-ito Thanks for letting me know about this bug, I'll have to download the old version of Ilive's Reader as you said. I'm glad you like these models, expect some R$$ houses coming soon. :)

I don't know which version of reader you mean by new, the old one I assume is .093 though.

I'm using the latest build, 1.5.4 from here. I can happily edit/save these changes without problems.

Many people do not realise that this application is still being supported, by Tropod currently. My experience is that 1.5.4 is stable/reliable. The thing is, if no one either:

    1. Uses v1.5.4
    2. Reports issues when they find them

Then we'll miss out on the chance to have a stable/working updated version of Reader. So if you do come across problems (with the latest build), please take the time to report them. Tropod's pretty good at fixing issues.

I've corrected the faulty exemplars of my housing pack and I've uploaded the new versions of the DAT files.

Here's the last(?) CS$ building (here's the real one) for my CS$ pack. I think I can model one last CS$ building before uploading the pack. This time I'm letting you guys decide on a particular CS$ that you'd like me to model. Bear in mind that it has to have, of course, the same characteristics as the other buildings in the pack, i.e.:

    (1) It has to be low-density

    (2) It has to be located in Santiago, Chile.

    (3) It should preferably be w2w

    First come, first served

    fWGuVid.jpg jlP0vz8.jpg

In the event that no one cares or suggests anything well... I'll just choose one myself!

It's a rather big bakery near my house, which is also the house of its owners (that's what the second and third floors stands for). It's size is a 18 x 18 meters corner building.

I will probably change the size of my future packs and instead of uploading four or more BATs at a time, I'll release 'mini' packs of two BATs. I'm doing this because I will be quite busy soon, that way those interested in my BATs will have to wait less for new content.

Thanks for the support guys. Still learning quite a bit!

Here's the little bakery that matias93 suggested me to do. I changed the dimensions a bit so it fits nicely on a 1x1 lot together with the little house next to it. Now that I notice, there are still a few details missing as well as some textures that I could change, like the blue ceramic wall for example (which should be glossier...still trying to figure out how to do that).

Here's every CS$ building in the pack that I'm planning to upload. I will darken the textures of the second and third buildings from the left, as they look a bit out of place I think. Expect to see this pack very soon!

As a side note, I'm not entirely sure you can really do glossy things to any great extent in gmax. You need to use 3DS to do that.
