I would tend to agree with Boformer.  While it exists, there is a reason why such a 'super rail' is relatively rare.  I have said this multiple times that if all rail types shared the same rail, then they are only as fast as the slowest rail type (again, metro, freight, and heavy rail stuck behind a tram).

@wasmic: I would tend to disagree that not having a super rail will stymie creativity.  I mean think about it.  If all trains use the same track and go the same places then what is the need for any variety to them?  People would start making faster trams to break up log jams and then all the vehicles would be exactly the same.  All the stations would accept all vehicle traffic and eventually people would stop seeing the need to use them at all.  Ironically, SOME realistic limitations (like the ones currently in place) spurs creativity because it forces players to overcome common problems that are faced IRL.  Personally, I kinda like trams and metro (at least once this mod is done).

It might sound like a doomsday prediction but it is my biggest fear resulting from blurring the lines of what these transport modes are typically designed to do.

Well, the difference isn't that great - but say that you'd want a tram-train to service the inner stretch of a line and a heavy rail train to service the outer parts. You'd need to build two tracks in parallel. With a super track, you could just have passing tracks at the stations. Stock trams can go up to 100 km/h (the upper end of what trams usually do in real life) and trains can go 120 km/h (normal for urban/suburban rail, but low for intercity rail).

In a Skylines context, something like the Karlsruhe Model could be done without a super track. All that's needed is a tram-only track that looks like train tracks but accepts trams, because running vanilla tram track into rural/suburban areas looks very ugly. Perhaps the vanilla train tracks could be copied and modified to accept trams instead of trains? I'd be fine with that.

Metro lines are usually grade-separated from each other anyway, so any underground tram lines would probably be grade-separated from other underground lines, and thus wouldn't need to be able to run on the same rails.

The only thing then missing is the ability for trains and metros to share lines - and that can be fixed by just building a catenary-powered metro.

So yes, a super track probably wouldn't be necessary. Even though I'd still like to use it for some things.

I wouldn't be afraid of blurring the lines, though - that's what has been happening in real life for quite some time now. When you ignore the different current collection options, there isn't a whole lot of difference between modern metros and suburban railways, and the same between trams and light rail or light rail and metros.

I also think that would be a good idea, which actually could also work. That kind of track could use the stock heavy rails track model + a third rail model on the outer borders. That track just has to allow any kind of rail vehicles which are implemented. The downside: such a network would the user force to install the snowfall DLC, metro overhaul and high speed rail. If one of those is missing shit is going to hit the fan. That would lead to 1000 ways to break your savegame *bruh*.

Maybe something like this will be possible in one or two years after CO stops support for C:S (so no more updates which could cause new incompatibilities) ;)

Actually irl there are trams / metros / "heavy rail" sharing the same track (normal gauge). Here in Germany are sometimes trams running into main stations. The best example is the "Stadtbahn Karlsruhe" which uses two-system trams able to run on two different voltages (15kV 16,7 Hz AC and  750V DC) - so those trams can drive on tracks from the DB (Deutsche Bahn)

LOL, I guess that part of that may work (maybe just the modded portions with no DLC stuff), although I don't think it would be worth it in-game. Also, I didn't know Germany had merged versions of tram/metro/rail. That's very interesting! Also, cool name :WinkNew:

Personally, I actually want just that :) but with a Maglev sort of skin. Not sure if its possible, but it would be cool. I want to make futuristic cities, so yeah :ToungeNew:

@R3V0: forgot to mention that as quick fix you should be able to use multi-track station enabler to force line elevation.

You mean hold shift key select the metro rails ? Tried that doesn't work

Huh! I actually got a japanese Maglev network mesh skin and texture ready and waiting for when network skins supports per-segment network meshes! It's in my thread.

Well, that, and station tracks (elevated and underground) for them. But yes, that's pretty much it. Ground level station tracks are already available, but the lack of elevated and underground station tracks are quite limiting when it comes to light rail networks. It's possible to do some makeshift elevated stations, but proper station tracks would be much better. There is no way to do an underground tram/light rail station.

While waiting one way tracks (joke):

1. Modular Above Metro Transfer Station:

From left to right: Main MOM Station, 1 way train station, 2 way train station, 2 way tram station. They can be stacked according to user.

That being said, is there any trick to snap modules to main station, along with ped paths under ground ?

(Contact me through PM, if you have any idea please, thank you)

2. Stadler S-Bahn is also in the works (the new one)

Looks awesome!  As far as your issues with the elevated station could you send me a pic?  I tried testing with @BadPeanut's version and it seems to be working ok

Here it is:

I even elevated tracks couple 2 meters above to make sure to overlapping building or anything.. weird

Oooh! Elevated metro station! As soon as that gets released, I'm going to add this mod to my main city.

EDIT: With a backup, of course. I don't want to lose that city, I've been working on it for soooo long and it's not done yet.

@R3V0:Station looks great and uh...works great too.  Didn't have any problems.  What happens when you start the line at another station and then route to your station?  Does that work?

    Uhm... cool then lol.

When i was trying to connect stations its giving me path not found error.  Point a was my ground station and point b was this station. Tried the otherway around it didnt work either. How did you make the path when trying ?

That rough draft is already prettier than the stock rails by a factor of 10 or so. You're doing some damn awesome modelling work, that's for sure.

@andreharv looks awesome! I think your girders are too deep, though. Looking at "classic" elevated structures (Chicago, NY, the Frankford el in Philadelphia) most of the girders seem to be 2 to 3 feet deep (at most). Yours look closer to 5 or 6 feet. (Albeit that's more appropriate given the ludicrous spacing between elevated rail supports in this game -- perhaps more frequent supports can be integrated into the track model itself?)

I guess the "path not found" error pops up when you have any of the vanilla tracks or stations in your line. Unlike a few updates before, I couldn't connect those anymore. Which is of course no issue at all in a new city or if you redo your whole network anyway.

One thing: if I connect the track to a station, the track defaults to going 12 meters higher than the station track (to +12m on default height, to the ground on -12m). It's easy to correct for, but I thought I'd at least mention it.

@donoteat: Good guess.  They are roughly 6ft.  Pictured here is New York example.  Trains are roughly 12' tall according to wikipedia so these girdles *lol girders are about half the height so I think I'm at a pretty good starting point.  Not to mention, my tracks probably have much thinner width than IRL steel tracks so that would also make the girders look bigger.  Will do some more experimentation though ;)

Chicago L here does use shorter girders (about 3.5ft) so again, gotta find yummy middle ground

    @andreharv

Number 7.... So that's the reason of delay... you devil ! LOL

PS: I got the station working, weird enough I had to destroy entire network and restart building line and stations, that solved it. (Trains don't spawn but it's my dumbness probably, I'm gonna ignore that, as long as station is working)

I'm gonna post it here so people can test it, more testers the better.

I'm very eager to test it.

Well I've sent them through to @andreharv but they're not entirely the final ones, but I haven't had time to rework anything - so maybe they'll be ready for full release? They are nearly exact replicas of the cim1 metro stations i believe - that was BloodyPenguins request - I hope to have added at least one more station for both ground and elevated by the time release comes round

    Here it is.

I'm not gonna make custom LOD, since it's time consuming. I'm gonna move on.

I will work on modular train station with MOM extension.

My request for help about connecting extensions and ped paths in modular station project is still valid, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
