Well, the Moose Factory has had a strong need for new nuts for some time now.  The link is in my sig.

SimPeg is the first EVER site that I registered as a member in February 2004.

And the laughs.  I would log in there every morning while I drank coffee.  Yep my real life friends are from SimPeg.

ditto, and 2006. Sigh.

It is much regret that I must go through the symbolic process of removing my all my Simpeg bookmarks.  2986239.gif

However, the one (small) thing I am glad of is the fact that I was able to save at least a few of the Simpeg smilies.

Yes, I did that too yesterday.  It's so weird, feeling such loss. But simpeg was my home away from home and the community a chosen family.

I didn't save the smilies, but a lot of them are on the banishedpeople.com website that Paeng put up...

I always liked this one with the bird, but it was a bit difficult to add to a post, and also the guy in the hammock.

I have been busy with RL, I completely missed what happened until I was toying around and clicked my Simpeg.com link and was so sad to see the sad clown and farewell. That was my "go to first website" for all things SimCity.  My introduction to custom content was downloading all of Peg's old wooden waterfronts (OWW2) and seaport industrial sets.

Hi Pezzajn. Why don't you come and join the us survivors either on Catty's City Builders, at the Simpeg Bomb Shelter (by Krio)

or on Simtropolis : SurPLUS - SimPeg LUminary Society, (by Craig ABCVs). We have nuts and beer.:-)))

Or join both ! The more the crazier.

Meanwhile, I've been repatriating some of my little CJ on Simtropolis -- it was a relief knowing that Paeng's Paengia was mostly there too, as well as a few others. I don't know if the Guys of Operation Salvage will manage to get SimPeg's CJs back... At least they got most of the PLEX !

Krio actually has his own group called Krioworks here

the SimPeg Bomb Shelter was set up by me and Tariel also has her own group.

Wow, I've really been out of the loop on this one. The last time I visited Simpeg or Simptropolis was about 6 months ago. Now I go to the Simpeg website, hoping to see something new to discover, only to find a clown.... sadly smiling and waving farewell :(. It is truly saddening to see the loss of such an amazing part of the SC4 community. Though, I'm glad to see that at least some parts of Simpeg will live on, here at Simtropolis and on City-Builders. I hope (and I don't mean to jinx anything) that nothing like what happened to Simpeg happens again to the community.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, as I've mentioned above, I've been out of the loop for a while. If it's ok to ask at this point, would anyone be willing to tell me what lead to the demise of Simpeg? From what little information I've collected from by 4 minute glance through the forms, there was something off with a server?  (Sorry if I'm in anyway being rude or insensitive to the topic at hand. I'm just a curious person.)

I don't think anyone has a clear idea of what happened except Pegasus and he hasn't posted ... :(

My understanding was something went wrong, attempts were made to fix it, which failed and in addition the www.simpeg.com address expires at the end of this month all of which added up to a decision to close the site down when that happens

Thank you Catty and Tariel for the links to the groups on the city-builders site.  Working on joining both groups.  I like the name "SimPeg Bomb Shelter".

Wow this is crazy. It's been a couple of years since I played SimCity 4 (and come to think of it, a few months since I've been on ST), but I still remember how much I loved having all those PLEX plugins! It's a shame that simpeg.com has to go.

There is now a PLEX section on the STEX.

This is sad news and Pegasus and Simpeg will be missed, I would like to personally Thank Peg from the bottom of my heart for the many 1,000 upon 1,000 of hours he has dedicated to this game and for all the enjoyment I have had with his additions to my favorite game (at least half of my plugins are Peg related), you have been an inspiration to custom content creators everywhere!

I, too, would like to thank the wonderful folks that made up SimPeg as a whole.  I downloaded tons of stuff, mostly seaports and the like -- and their stuff was well thought-out and their graphics were always "top-drawer".  The members spent a good deal of their time trying to teaching me how to use "readers" and "editors".  THANK YOU!!  You absolutely will be missed.

I would also like to give special thanks to "MGB".  He spent a good deal of his personal time over a period of about 8 weeks teaching me how to make a playable lot for Sc4.  I know I frustrated him nearly to death -- but he is a good and patient man.  Thank you, sir.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Returning as I am today from a very long absence from SC4 it was quite the shock to see the loss of Simpeg!

When I first started playing SC4 in 2004 I was already 53 years old, over the ensuing years I've experienced the death of friends, family, and while not on par, the death of websites which I cared about. Such is the cycle of life, whether flesh and blood or bits and bytes.

Born in New York City and raised in Washington, D.C., my SC4 universe was not that which mimicked my real life but the rural and small town world I never knew. Simpeg was my door to an alternate reality, a reality defined not just by downloadable files but one of people who understood what I never knew - the beauty of what lies beyond our big city limits (real, imagined, or both.)

Starting yet another new SC4 game as I am now, I'm sure many of the old files will be available but the unique personality of Simpeg will be no more. This is what we lost. RIP Simpeg and thanks for the memories.

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-groups/item/45-simpeg-shelter

We are currently deciding when to continue with this group given the lack of interest, I realize most of the people that read this post will be a 90 percenter

The 90–9–1 principle states that in a collaborative website such as a wiki, 90% of the participants of a community only view content, 9% of the participants edit content, and 1% of the participants actively create new content.

so wouldn't post which is a real shame, but that's the thing don't post on the sites you have taken the trouble to join or to follow then one day the people that run them, they then end up thinking that as no-one is interested its not going to matter if they shut them down, as I can guarantee if SimPeg had a large number of active users then while we might not have ended up with the same forum contents if the damage was as extensive as reported but it would have been rebuilt.

And I'm not saying visit CB unless of course you want to, but take a look around at the sites you belong to and try and remember that your contributions to those sites either by posting or here at Simtropolis where you can like something is the site's lifeblood without which there isn't a reason for the site to exist.

Dear Catty, I can only repeat here, more or less, what I said on CB, alas. I had hopes too, But if post-Simpeg pages don't take off, either the will or the need are not there anymore. Sigh.

I remember seeing a couple of files on SimCity.cn, is there a way that we can consolidate all (if not, then almost all) these files on SimTropolis as it already has many of the more popular downloads made by SimPeg?

That's something you would have to take up with the PLEX moderators

https://community.simtropolis.com/search/?type=core_members&group%5B23%5D

And I only think they can do the ones they have permission from the creators to include

Two things

Firstly the SimPeg Shelter group after the initial shock of what had happened to SimPeg the group wasn't used by anyone and when asked people were happy to see the group deleted after giving it a deadline till the end of the year for people to change their minds, as much as possible was transferred to other locations on the site and then the group was deleted.

Secondly with some free time on my hands I was able to get starting on a new Index list this one covers everything that was in PLEX and where those files are now located ... its a work in progress so people may need to check in a few times till its finished always assuming I can locate all the files.

That's a really useful endeavour ! Paeng's lots are on Simtropolis https://community.simtropolis.com/search/?type=downloads_file&q=Paeng or on his website http://paeng.e-workers.de/gallery/city_journals/customlots.php  ; you already knew that, I'm sure:-) but I put the URL in, just in case, [and for the impatient ones:-)]

Paeng has passed on all his SimCity files to me as he has moved on to other games, plus a number of other files, tutorials, etc that he had saved from SimPeg included 33 simpeg smilies ... happy to pass them on if anyone wants them, the SimPeg forum attachments are here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex?folder=Paengs%2BScrabble%2BBox

Paeng did give me a couple of text files which has a bit of information on the plugins as I find the time I'm adding this to the plugin description, luckily those text files contain dependency information.

Paeng was (still is) hosting some of Krio's files, Krio has given me permission to upload them here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex?folder=Krioworks

and if any of them are missing from Simtropolis to upload them here.

As its just me working on this its going to be while before this is finished, the plan is to eventually upload the simpeg forum attachments onto the STEX so the files are held on two separate sites.
