max_13: Thanks! I didn't even realise I had that custom building in my assets.

tankmank: Thank you, I'm going to keep on expanding Brendon while returning to Charon Lake to create a lot of farmland.

    TekindusT: They sure do!

Kim Sunwoo: Creepy yes, but an interesting contrast!

Carnivorus: I'm glad you like it all! This next entry is far more industrial, for the most part.

    Ultimate727: Thanks!

    Entry 27: A Hazy Day

Recently I have been developing East Brendon and the industrial area of Ashford Estate is now almost complete. So part of this entry is a teaser and the other part comprises shots of Brendon taken from the outskirts on a rather hazy day.

    ///

    8xpQ6H.jpg

It's one hazy, lazy afternoon in Brendon today.

    A571j9.jpg

To the right is Ashford Estate- an industrial area.

    yhFi1L.jpg

It is something of a railway hub with a solid cluster of tracks.

    B9HyPR.jpg

I used FX2K's brushes to fill the gaps between the rails with gravel.

    thjNFI.jpg

This doubles down on the industrial realism factor in my opinion.

    I1DhAf.jpg

The outskirts of East Brendon. This is the area I am mainly focusing on for expansion.

    w5IU08.jpg

Did I mention that it was a very hazy day?

    8URdKf.jpg

Bird's eye view of the city centre.

    YfOI4L.jpg

Now we are in West Brendon.

    Z3LOSM.jpg

The last section of the expressway is lined by a great number of trees.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

I agree the gravel adds a lot to rail tracks. Looking forward to the full update. Not sure about the LUT you're using though, I think it doesn't really fit to the climate and general feel of your city.

Looks great! Although on the last update it screams "I want elevated track stations" :P

I love the expressway's transition to a Parkway.

    Sansha: Thank you!

Cool_Z: Thanks; tree-lined highways have always been very cool in my eyes. The A66 comes to mind.

Ultimate727: I think so. But in the game it is just called a white obelisk.

max_13: The LUT I was using desaturates the colours, dulls down brown colours and can make buildings look brighter which seems to fit a bright yet hazy day. The LUT I am using in this entry is an evening one with softer colours, more contrast and a bit more saturation.

Tonraq: I know, I know- elevated stations will eventually come. Thanks for the expressway comment- I decided to cap it with a roundabout instead of connecting it with the M28.

Linoa06: The texture brushes are very powerful tools and very versatile.

Kim Sunwoo: Thanks, sometimes a desaturated look can really work.

    Entry 28: Ashford Estate

Boy do I have an lengthy update for you folks! It has plenty of the one thing I love most in city simulators- industry. Let's dive in and get our hands grimy!

    ///

    Wy3ITs.jpg

Ashford Estate is in the outskirts of East Brendon.

    Hl33fV.jpg

A railyard for both freight trains shifting products and for trains to rest. It would be super cool if there was a mod to plop down stationary, innate trains on railway tracks.

    WQZabs.jpg

The railyard connects up with the east rail route leading out of the city.

    plgRrt.jpg

Smelton's Chemical Works is the small industrial complex to the right boasting that massive smokestack.

    dSZhTI.jpg

Filtration units clean up most of the waste products which come from Smelton's Chemical Works.

    UBpsiY.jpg

    aZB8TR.jpg

I spaced out the estate with a lot more carparks, storage sites and junk areas.

    PhzkHB.jpg

Another view of that smokestack. Handy hint- power plants make great industrial fillers!

    jNbVnI.jpg

A small incinerator for when you have stuff to burn.

    gO9ffc.jpg

This ancillary building of Smelton's Chemical Works is a coking plant.

    AEmDrh.jpg

    Industrial trash is the best.

    hOapVl.jpg

The building to the right is both a power plant and a heavy metals recycling centre. Some of the heavy metals are used as fuel for electricity generation, the metals are partially melted to create this sludge-like fuel which is burnt.

    E0v0yZ.jpg

    More junk!

    mWHtlU.jpg

    Finally a crane!

    vasffD.jpg

    qjTh7T.jpg

    q42hyP.jpg

Baytah Unit is an experimental nuclear reactor using thorium as nuclear fuel.

    XwvrK9.jpg

    OpOtCw.jpg

    h4MyAG.jpg

    uW1tpk.jpg

In any large industrial area, in real life, you nearly always see a tower crane somewhere.

    dHkfjf.jpg

The M28 in the near distance.

    OuZUvA.jpg

A little fun fact; the expressway that cuts right through Brendon's city centre eventually connects up to the M28 via the interchange just outside of East Brendon.

    L9q0bs.jpg

    hSqW8k.jpg

The M28 gradually rises and falls over the very gentle rolling hills which eventually rise up and constitute the Howgill Fells to the East.

    2P5pEe.jpg

    DzEQHm.jpg

This is one of three freight rail stations that reside within Ashford Estate.

    KreWGW.jpg

    Recycle, or else.

    ThRM9J.jpg

This modded recycling centre is special because it comes transport enabled- it has a one way road running through it.

    4J8Mc0.jpg

    bFKUhc.jpg

Ashford Estate contains most of Brendon's garbage disposal facilities.

    oRKIEY.jpg

Lets look at some gravel shall we?

    csccwy.jpg

    pOhRrx.jpg

And now for a closer look at the railyard.

    sySGMX.jpg

    2TpVFN.jpg

    kGDBkH.jpg

For the most part wildlife flourishes in the woodland.

    Osyt5Z.jpg

    l08cJB.jpg

    X1Rvxl.jpg

One day CS railways will hold stationary trains <slobbers>.

    KNs1HE.jpg

    An overview of Ashford Estate.

    2eYzRd.jpg

The Ashford Interchange. To the left is the start of the M28 while to the right is the start of the expressway. All the while the main highway runs through the centre.

    1TzfHr.jpg

    dZRMgY.jpg

Brendon is starting to feel very large now. But I have only filled up about eight or so city tiles!

A somewhat closer view of the Howgill Fells.

I have always enjoyed how you have incorporated industry into your cities, but i can't help but feel that all the smoke stacks just don't always fit in to a general 'western' style industrial area. But i do love the rail yard, some plopable trains would enhance it so much. Looking forward to your next update

    Missed an update - damn!

Anyway: brilliant use of industrial props there. Looks so realistic. Your trainyard is a beauty and I do agree, stational train (props?) are needed! :)

That big interchange also looks very good. Awesome work - again :);)

good pictures. i also started using highway ramps as regional highways, but they just look weird to me. there's a mod in the workshop introducing new speed limits for exisiting road types, however it doesnt sound too stable in its current state.

First of all I intend to go back to Charon Lake and create a lot of farmland there. Next I will be starting on a new city tile and attempt to get adventurous with terraforming and retaining walls.
