It's a bit pointless, since this track zigzags uphill and has some fairly sharp turns, but I'm trying the new(ish? They're new to me, anyway) slope transitions for the hybrid railway. If anything, it's –at the very least– aesthetically pleasing and modern to have those nice catenaries. And get a hang of this, maybe I'll try to build a proper high-speed line for my city.

What is good when you have nothing to say is that you can always pretend to listen. Anyway it does not prevent to think!

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Not to get too preachy, but the year 2001 looked more like 1968, the year the movie was made. And 1968 looked a lot like 1950 with some new paint. And as each progressive generation is less innovative than the prior, I would anticipate everyone will be riding horses by 2050. By 2550, it might all be gone. But, hey, at least we have more than 4 hair colors now! *:D

Since I'm waiting on BH to finish his project, I started a new region yesterday. Nothing special-

Looks great!  I like how some parts are still very Portlandesque like the location of the CBD/downtown, Interstates 5/405/84, the Ross Island Bridge, etc.  I also like the creeks and riparian areas you added to the SE corner.  Look fwd to seeing more.

Overlaying Google Maps for reference points onto one of my upcoming map releases:

Austin_Google_Overlay.jpg.ffac951f7ae55643aa81268fcc60ccb3.jpg

This map will be great like the others!

To make recreating the city of Austin easier for players, you might consider rotating the map 17.80° counter-clockwise.  This will align the grid of SimCity to the original grid of downtown Austin as well as to the axis of Congress Avenue and the Texas State Capitol.  The bridges across the Colorado River, the most urban stretches of I-35, and even the former rail lines through the old downtown warehouse district also all readily align to this grid.  Amusingly, Austin's worst, most unbanistically incompetent stretches of roads, I-35 and MLK Boulevard, both exist where later planners foolishly broke or shifted the grid.

I actually also made a map of both Austin and San Antonio together, but I admit I was sadly not able to do the rotation I'm suggested here, as my focus was instead on San Antonio, which has a closer north-south orientation based not on an American-style grid, but on a Spanish Law of the Indies colonial grid originally organized around central civic plazas.

It has an L&L Hawaiian BBQ, Jollibee, and See's Candies!  Into all my cities it will go.  Now we just need a Shiro's Saimin Haven, a Leonard's Bakery, and a Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour for some steaming hot saimin, freshly hot malasadas, and a hot Fudge-ana ice cream sundae.

Thanks!  Oh you don’t know (actually I’m very sure you do know lol) how much time I spend internally struggling with this and other maps when it comes to rotations, compression or other adjustments and sacrifices just to meet the various (quirky) sc4 world mechanics.

For Austin, it came down to me wanting the runways at Bergstrom to (mostly) line up with the SC4 grid.  Yeah, I sacrificed “correcting” the entire city grid over an airport runway or two lol.  Not the first time and wont be the last time it happens *:D

I may end up releasing both the standard vers as seen here and another rotated for the street grid.  Though the rotated may come some time later as I’ve more or less wrapped this one up a while ago and its been sitting in the release queue.

After doing quite a few of these maps now I realize why some cities didn’t get very far in @drunkapple’s to-do list or other mappers that came before me.  Some regions just arent very “SC4 friendly” either in regard to the grid, or elevation/water levels, or both!

Munich, for example, is currently driving me nuts…
