Nice model!

Regarding the prop models: korver used giraffe bushes or berries (?) in some of his pics i think, and it turned out very realistic imo. And @Barroco Hispano has this very good pack here that if im not mistaken contains a similar tree to the oil palm tree, you should take a look

Good thinking there. I searched online to see if there are any licensable 3D models and, unless I'm willing to pay $26 for something with about 3 million more polygons than SC4 can render, Barroco Hispano's date palms will probably be fine as a standin (actually one of CP's date palm models is even closer, but doesn't have as many variants).

I guess an oil palm tree isn't that complicated to make for SC4's level of detail: a frond is a spline with radial rendering, each pinna can be a spline with rectangular rendering and then you move and weld the end vertices, a mature tree has about 20 fronds so you can make four or five and array them, texture: doesn't need to be that detailed since you're working at the ~0.1m scale. But it's probably more productive to spend that time on buildings and details people will actually see, and make use of as much custom content as possible given there's so much of it.

If you choose the "FBX" option it costs $19. The only worthwhile tree in that bundle is that palm. About two weeks ago there was no option to buy trees separately, you had to buy the bundle *:D

The polygons are not a problem except the rendering time (I have exported trees of 5m polys that take 2 hours to export *). In the game, LOD 5 of the tree will have a maximum of 5 or 21 polygons. Fortunately SimCity 4 is not True3D and that allows us to export BAT's with millions of polygons without the need to optimize them.

The date palms that I exported don't look very good in my opinion. I hope to be able to export a better version in the future. I'm working right now on a bundle that we bought a few months ago. It's a ton of work to export trees and getting the spring version to look good in 3Dsmax is a pain. Frustrating.

Spending $19 for tree models I'll have to texture myself, which will take hours/days, doesn't necessarily seem worth it right now (also I'm not sure whether FBX format is readable with the ancient version of 3Dsmax I have access to) but it's definitely something I'll consider in the future if I get very into modeling stuff—I'm sure there will be some utility. (also CG Trader (?) has another oil palm model that's only $6! practically a steal!)

At the moment I'm still not sure if I'm going to end up making anything high-quality enough for other people to use, in any case. and not sure what would be most useful given that the community shrank significantly after the most active creators/players lost access to 3Dsmax in ~2022. maybe I could offer to finish and export other people's unfinished buildings or something

I'll finish texturing and detailing eventually (and start building the rest of the tea estate housing) but: finally figured out the unnecessarily complicated export process, and I seem to be doing ok in terms of matching the size and general appearance of other 1x1 houses.

but also... think I need to model some oil palms and tea bushes, unless there are some in a prop pack I don't know about. suspect that will require somewhat more advanced modeling skills

I will be waiting for this release. Great 1x1 additional for rural and Asian theme 👍🏻

Keep them coming!

Hi everybody!

First of all a quick heads up for those who might be interested. The SC4D LEX Legacy - BSC Canals Collection v1 just went online. It can be downloaded from SC4Evermore.

It includes the contents of 41 previously separate downloads (including some contents that were only available on the SC4D LEX DVD and an unreleased upload from Callagrafx for his SG Remastered canal set) organized into 9 main sets:

  • SG BSC Brick Canals
  • SG Irrigation Canals 2004 - the old set
  • SG Irrigation Ditches 2009 - the new set
  • SG Urban Canals
  • CAL Remastered SG Canals
  • CAL Stone Canals
  • Newman Inc River and Pond Kit (RPK)
  • Newman Inc Agricultural Suburban Canals (ASC)
  • Zero7 Sunken Canals (addon for CAL Remastered SG Canals)

Then in the meantime I started catching up with @Krio's recent modelling work. He has sent me around 15 recent projects that he created and these will come to STEX as my time allows me. For now the first two of them have been made available.

TG Krio Autotalo

TG Krio Brand Plaza

Have fun!

Is Krio's content really new? So exciting! :bunny:

Firstly, the building you just made is high quality and as you can see lining it up against other similar buildings it looks great. If that's your first attempt at BATing then trust me you will keep improving.

As for other BATers leaving, its irrelevant because what we actually need is people like yourself to come along and take up BATing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one musing on Longevity and SimCity 4

I hope I live long enough for technology to enable going into our cities virtually, but so long as it doesn't take the energy consumption of a small nation to power.

To the next 50 million!

Calabria . Puglia Development !

Little development of towns and agriculture in two regions calabria and puglia ! This map is prakticaly five regions Puglia, Basalicata, Campania, Calabria and Molise. Today I worked on Cosenza, Tarranto and Foggia. First two zoning, terraforming, civics, utilities . Last little agriculture start in Foggia an very large area, this side was naturaly intended to be agiculture. There are some small settlements to create little county feel !

mbPx9vf.jpg

TVzFc1b.jpg

Cosenza Calabria a inland mountanious town with some industrie and probably a AKS Limestone quary to come !

4y3TazJ.jpg

Tarronto Puglia, dowtown and some harbour docks. Special attention was the terraforming of the downtown seashore so there´s a gradual decend to the harbour area !

YoTqWiM.jpg

Still lot of details to add, but basics are there !

Enjoy !

Great stuff @Haljackey. I enjoyed it very much. A crowning achievement and fun to watch.

As for your brown boxes, I just couldn't resist researching those: Both 110 Bishopsgate and the Vienna Tower are on STEX. Neither has any dependency listed. But each had one comment reporting a brown box. The links are added below. I could not find any comment about a solution though.

That is an incredible accomplishment.  Are your cities all grown naturally or do you plop commercials and industrials, and grow only the residentials?  Have you given any thought to plopping residentials now with the growify DLL mod?

Yo --

Does the "growify DLL Mod" work for plopped residentials ??  Has it been tested ??

If it does work -- where do I find this MOD -- ??

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !
