I just wish the US would quite pussy-footing around and get some main battle tanks to Ukraine.  The only way to solve that problem is a mobile envelopment -- then see how long it takes for them to surrender !!  *

If memory serves, a certain tinpot dictator made the same assumption 80 some years ago,and sent his finest tank divisions in against a ragtag, greenhorn army(Stalin had almost completely eliminated any political enemies, including his top generals) . 5 and a half million casualties later, Uncle Joe was knocking on Adolf's door. Never underestimate the tenacity of the Cossack. Remember Alexander Nevsky?

Rather than get into a "kerfuffle" and hurt people's tender sensibilities -- I will simply say -- your point is well taken, Jack.  But Napoleon had already proven that point well before 1941.  Time will tell if the situations are all that similar.

And as far as human nature and carnage is concerned -- "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind."

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Yo, Dreadnought! Me thinks your good intentions are being misled by all the bs information we are fed by our media. If you want to know who really sowed the wind, please send me a PM rather than replying here, as this really isn't the place for policy debate. Personally, rather than sending tanks to the Ukraine I would send our NAM team to Ohio, as they do need an infrastructure upgrade down there.

Just for the record --

In my earlier life I served in the US Army, Armor Branch, and many of my classmates stayed in the Army.  I now have what they sometimes call "friends in high places".  And being former Army, I have a very sensitive Mark 7 "BS detector".  So -- if I don't ask too many questions -- I get answers.

As for Ohio -- you need to ask where all that Federal funding went that "Norfolk & Southern" didn't spend on track maintenance -- that was their department.

And -- you're right -- this is not the place for technical discussions.

Ta, Mate --

But not with tanks! *:D

All this tank talk has really raised my "Old Glory" up the flagpole, and I'm kinda parched. Care to join me at the VFW for some beer and burgers?

Yo, Jack -- let us not forget the 1939 "Winter War".  The similarities with that one are striking.

That's quite the coffee meetup! Also, this reminds me that I've spent way too much time playing these car puzzle games... :)

This week I have been mostly smoothing out the tiles around Chrislee Lake, building their transport networks and putting in some industrial and agricultural to get some inter-borough traffic flowing.
Loving that transition from city to countryside vibe right now.

Chrislee Lake? Right up the road from Petercushing Reservoir, no doubt! *:D

Been on the prowl for some small towns to map, and that's when I tripped over Uranus. Uranus Missouri to be exact. A marvelous little nook on old Route 66, it sports all sorts of attractions like Putt Pirates Golf and the World's Largest Belt Buckle. Not to mention the famous Fudge Factory. Stop in and they'll pack you some to take with you. With a scant population of just 25, it's always roomy in Uranus.

I find it to be the perfect location for the Uranus Mushroom Farm. "The Best Shiitakes come from Uranus" and morels and portabellas too.

Something so immensely satisfying about that and I know you good folks at Simtropolis will understand!

Oh we do, that's why instead of pruning I now use the fantastic growification tool. Plopping buildings yet having them work just as if they had grown was a complete game changer. At last my cities look the way I wanted them to!
