I been having a weird issue lately.  I don't seem to be able to quote any posts.  When I push the quote button, it just opens up a new post, but the desired quoted post in not there.  I have tried on three different computers with the same results, so I don't think it is a computer issue.  All three computers have internet explorer, version 11 (various releases).  Anybody else experiencing this or know of a fix?

Maybe it has something to do with your browser.  This is Firefox 33.0

Just tried IE11 and I can also reproduce the problem. It seems these latest versions of Internet Explorer are breaking more than they fix. It's probably not worth the hassle of downgrading to IE10, so I'd suggest to use an alternative browser.

EDIT:

After a bit of research, it seems the forum provider is aware of this issue. There's some description of a possible fix here, although it says this is included with IP.Board 3.4.7 (which we're currently running, based on the version number below). If this is the case, it's strange the quotes still aren't working.

Has Microsoft ever done anything useful with IE since they lost that big legal case in the EU?  Things seem to be getting worse and worse.  Maybe they should get out of the browser business.

Agreed! IE just isn't good anymore and I pity those who work at offices where the IT department won't let them install a different browser. That is part of the reason why IE still has the market share that it has. That and people who aren't really computer-savvy use IE.

There are other problems as well (in CJs).  I am afraid that these niceties are getting lost in some kind of maintenance cycle.

My profile views has been stuck at 5,478 for over a year now.  I'm not sure if this is a known bug or if I'm the only one having it?

Thanks,

There seems to be a plethora of little features that have been disabled somehow.  Does it matter?

I see no "new post" button here.  What forum were you in?

I think Wiimeister means the blue dots/stars next to the topic title that indicate new posts. If you haven't visited a certain topic for a few weeks or so, the forum software seems to forget your last position in the topic, and instead of taking you to the first new post, it takes you to the first post of the topic. It's annoying, but it's not a new 'bug'.

The search engine (the forums' one, not the STEX) seems to be broken. Search by keyword returns very few results.

Sorry for bumping, but what's going on with this? The problem is not yet solved, and there has not been any answer from the site staff either - and it was reported more than 1 month ago. It's not something minor, you can't just search for previous posts. Looks something like a broken index or loss of search data - these should be repaired or even reconstructed.

Please take a look into this, as it results in effectively "losing" all the wealth of knowledge posted on this site through all these years.

The failure to position I have had occasionally.  Considering the complexity of this program, it is not surprising that that facility has an occasional hiccup.

On the other hand, the failure of the search engine, which I don't use much, always surprises me.  I really wonder if the search function should be coded in the program at all.  Why not just call the Google search, then grab the result.  Seems to me it would save a lot of angst on the part of our developer/maintainers.

Attempting to upload to the STEX and after several attempts, I managed to get the message that I've been blocked.  There's a CloudFlare ID that I was told to email to the admins - who/where do I send it?  I seem thoroughly unable to find who/where to send this to...

I'll try to get one of the admins to get in touch with you - I know you mentioned that you updated your browsers... have you tried to clear your cache and then open up ST?

Attempted from a different computer, different location, different browser (Chrome this time).  Same result, even with cache cleared.  It won't even post the error message; it just truncates it so all I see is the top of a couple of letters where the uploaded file name should be.  Very odd.

I can't look into this at the moment, I'll have a look in a few hours once I get back to my computer. But you could try changing file formats of images for instance, and maybe repackaging or zipping the files again. It could be trying to tell you that there is something that can't be uploaded to the site.

Or it's more complex, but try the above and tell us how you got on:D

I got this while editing a post yesterday. I just entered in the numbers (to confirm I was human :P) and pressed ok. Worked for me.

Madhatter, is this the error that you encountered? [image]

I've recently come across this when trying to upload a background image for my profile. This was on the "customize" section in the UserCP. Unlike the validation check, it only has an ID number and your IP address shown at the bottom.

After testing, I found the blocked error only triggered from uploading PNG images to the site. The same image converted to JPG, BMP or GIF uploaded fine without any message. Perhaps something similar is happening here with the STEX uploader. Like Hamish said, experimenting with the file formats might be the way forward. Or even changing the format of the compressed archive, if not using ZIP.

Just tried another attempt - using Chrome, same results. I re-zipped the files, successfully unzipped them, and checked to see if anything odd was included. The only files are the BATs and their respective lots and necessaries, plus the .jpeg images and the html "readme" file, which was made from the same template that I used on previous uploads.

Like I said, I can't even view the error message that is generated when Chrome tells me the upload is 100% done - it just cuts it off at the very tip top...

I am guessing this is the error - however, i don't get the message - I don't see that graphic - all I see is a tiny shred of the top of the first row of letters, making it look like a dash and a couple of periods. The only reason I know that it's this error is that in one of the browsers I tried earlier today, I was able to highlight and cut and paste the text into a .txt document so I could read what was happening.

As far as changing file formats, something seems odd about having to do it when the site has accepted .zip and .jpeg files in the past. (I don't want that to come across as peevish, but it just seems an unnecessary workaround.)

Ah well, I will be in a holding pattern until I hear more...it's taken me two years to get these to a sharing state, they can wait a while longer. :]

Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome.
IE and FF on one laptop at one location, and Chrome on a second laptop at a different location.

All with the same result...

I can only think of one more check to make and that is that your files are all standard for the STEX.

Any illustrations should probably be *.jpg.  Text files should be *.htm or *.html (main with possibly *.css).  BAT files should be *.sc4model, *.sc4desc, *.sc4lot, and/or *.dat.

*.sav files from the PIM should be deleted.

Since you are a long standing submitter, I can't imaging what could possibly have gone wrong.  The archive should be a *.zip.

If you have a large number of files, you might consider using Files2DAT to compress some of them into *.dat.  I have had one huge BAT file that actually would not load until I condensed it.  It had so many files in it it actually ran my system out of file handles.

Hmmm...I had thought this might be the case, but a check yields all the normal file types - descriptions, lots, etc.  No .sav files (which I usually get rid of if they're generated), and the images are .jpegs.  The readme is an html file and a folder with the images and the normal html stuff in it; nothing that I haven't already uploaded in the past.  The archive is indeed a .zip file.  Very strange.

I think the site is being updated.  I was unable to use an image box a few minutes ago.  Had to post an image as a link.  Grrrr.
