Oh, I just saw how you rendered your BATs on 3dsM and I'm just wondering to myself, and wanted to ask -- when you import your sketchup model directly to 3ds Max, do the textures you apply after importing apply and render properly on your BAT model? I always have to import them pre-textured as a base texture just so that the textures I apply on 3ds Max actually render properly (and if not, it renders the textures as solid colors).

Yes, I always apply a bitmap texture in Sketchup, prior to importing the model to 3dsMax. I find that works the best, especially if the bitmap is scaled as well as it can be in Sketchup.

Holy cow, you are awesome, Bipin! This will be great for my suburbs! :D

As for ideas of future BATs (still taking ideas? :P) - maybe some Canadian big-box store type-things? (Modern Sobeys, Superstore, etc.)

    Or a modern Timmies?

Basically anything suburban commercial, or more suburban housing (especially 1-tile width lots!) :D

Keep it up Bipin, everything in here is looking superb.

Thank you for all the kind words everyone. The response has been phenomenal, and I really appreciate it! Unfortunately, I too can't wait to do more on this, and by that I mean get my IID to start creating prop/building families. To continue what I'm doing, I need those hexes, but alas none have been given to me, despite posting in the correct thread.

Try to PM Barby or Girafe on Devotion.

I had posted in that thread a week ago, but to no avail; I have received no range yet. Additionally, I had contacted Girafe as you had suggested, but he claimed he has no way to give out IIDs. I guess that leaves me with the only option of waiting for a response in that thread, or contacting BarbyW if she doesn't respond there.

Sometimes it takes a little while to get a range, but I'm sure you will hear from somebody soon.

But modding the families can take place at the very end, after all the models are complete, so you really shouldn't have to wait for anything.

I have a few models ready to go. The intention is to leave them as a surprise. Besides, the differences aren't too drastic, mostly just some assets being changed around (e.g. rounded molding instead of rectilinear forms) and colours. ;) Unfortunately though, I'm not sure if I can count on getting the IIDs soon as I have been told by Girafe that BarbyW is in the hospital.

Fantastic work on your suburban homes! Any chance that you'll be making 45 deg. and 22.5 deg. versions of the 1x2 homes?

How many IIDs do you need anyway? I've been assigned a range a looong time ago, and it is much too big for my stuff alone. I'd gladly help you out with a bunch. :)

I only need need three at the moment. In other words, three for each house pack; one for the house families, one for the driveways and one for the deck or deck/foundation depending on the type of house. I would greatly appreciate it T Wrecks if you could help me out here, seeing as for my upcoming release, I only need three.

Beautiful, but a question is appeared in my mind :) ... What is it ? maybe a Gungan shield :D ( I'm kidding ;) )

Something along the lines of the Eden Project. ;) The idea is to create some basic, futuristic buildings that can be applied to a variety of needs, whether that be here on Earth or in a colony on Mars. There will be greenery, forests, gardens etc. on the inside.

Things are a little slow due to the fairly long render time...

    8afcd25076008cfe1ca769d95add640467f2cd3d

...However, work as opposed to renders is still being done at the same pace.

    8afcd250762c093e9bba9a91819ec98a92d1527c

Keep in mind that the reflectivity is due to a simple, interim, monochromatic ground layer beneath as well as the fact that these inflatable domes would include a Mylar layer as insulation and a gas barrier, essentially acting like the bladder of a ball or tire. Enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I appreciate reading your feedback! :)

That's a great effect. Out of curiosity, is that pattern modelled or is it a bump map? (I'm guessing modelled...?)

I used both techniques, actually. In the context of Sketchup, the dome is made of simple, triangular polygons in an arrangement akin to that of Spaceship Earth at Epcot, Disney World. However, when I imported the model into 3dsMax I had used NURMS subdivision to to achieve a more curvelinear appearance. Finally, I applied a plastic texture which uses a glass bump map, something like this:

    3467-bump.jpg

To create the Mylar layer, I had simply copied and scaled down the second iteration of the dome so it rests just under the exterior, plastic surface. This has transparent, yet also metallic properties akin to the real product; BoPET. I hope that answers your questions!

Hah, funny one Timmy! :D I've added some siding on one of the house versions, which is commonplace for upper floors on mid-wealth residences around here.

    8afcd2507682afbfc32478562539d2636749ab89

Unfortunately though, there are some issues with it displaying in the north/south views; where the siding is seen at an obtuse/oblique angle. Is it much of an issue? Should I fix it, and if so, how? Let me know what you think!

Maybe you do not have to fix the issue your having to me it's inconspicuous.
