About This File

The Super Chief was one of the named passenger trains and the flagship of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.

It set a new standard for rail travel in America, and being diesel powered easily bested the fuel operating costs of steam trains of the era. With one set of equipment, the train initially operated once a week from both Chicago and Los Angeles, and covered the route in 39hrs at average speeds better than 60mph. It ran (in various forms) from 1936 till 1971. This mod represents the early 1950s configuration of the train, including the Pleasure Dome.

This train is best run in cities with normal straights and NAM Wide Curve Rails (double or single) as it has been made close to scale. The carriages look awkward in the default SC4 curves. As usual you can only replace the game engine once.

Inside there are two folders.:

in /Replace there is a file of carriages and two engine configs which each also replace the game carriage.

The F7A config is smaller (16m) and is best overall. It works properly under all circumstances.

or

The F7AB is full scale with tractor and compressor unit as an engine. This is 32m long and will only look correct on straight rails. Its also long enough to trigger a SC4 bug which affects the last carriage on curves if the engine is too long. However it gives the best photo opportunities... dont use it if it bugs you.

So to replace the game passenger train with the Super Chief in full glory - pick one of the two engines and the carriages.

in /Extras you will find

- the 8 carriages which can be added to any other passenger carriages you have. (there were other trains of the era using the same carriages)

- an ATSF EMD F7 Freight Engine and a SOO EMD F7 Freight Engine - these engines do not replace the game engine - they are Extra ones.

As usual: add these file anywhere in plugins, revert your trains to the game defaults by removing the files from plugins.

@ rail purists: "you cant make a silk purse from a sows ear" are words that came to mind frequently while making this - photo material while copious was not very useful and the game imposes severe limitations. I tried.
