About This File

Here's some colourful old wooden duplexes from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They are a design that is typical in the Schmidtville area of the city, with the largest concentration located on Church Street near the intersection with Harvey. I have noticed the style in a few other locations in the South End and even across the harbour in Downtown Dartmouth. I'm guessing that they were once even more prevalent and that some have been lost to redevelopment over the years. For the most part, the surviving duplexes have stood up well over the last hundred or so years. Many of the original architectural details are still intact or have been tastefully replicated and, as is traditional in the Maritimes, they are still painted in a mix of colours (no 100 shades of beige here). Some of them, however, have fallen into disrepair at the hands of "slum" landlords and are mainly used to provide cheap housing for Halifax's large student population. The 6 variations included in this uploads reflect the "best" of the bunch.

Church Street apartments come to SimCity as 1x2s and 1x1s that grow on the Chicago and New York tilesets on medium density. They provide housing for 23 R$$.
