About This File

Piggly Wiggly®, America's first true self-service grocery store, was founded in Memphis, Tennessee in 1916 by Clarence Saunders. In grocery stores of that time, shoppers presented their orders to clerks who gathered the goods from the store shelves. Saunders, a flamboyant and innovative man, noticed this method resulted in wasted time and man hours, so he came up with an unheard-of solution that would revolutionize the entire grocery industry: he developed a way for shoppers to serve themselves

Despite predictions that this new kind of store would fail, the first Piggly Wiggly opened September 6, 1916 at 79 Jefferson Street in Memphis. Operating under the unusual name Piggly Wiggly, it was unlike any other grocery store of that time. Shopping baskets, open shelves, no clerks to shop for the customer -- unheard of!

Piggly Wiggly Corporation, established by Saunders when he opened the first store in Memphis, secured the self-service format and issued franchises to hundreds of grocery retailers for the operation of Piggly Wiggly stores.

CS$ Plop and Growables included. Lot size: 6x4 grow and plop

Another attempt to reclaim the prestigious position of Simtropolis's #1 uploader. But I just do not like the installer thing, as much as I hate unnecessary dependencies!! Not giving it a rating.

This is really good. But isn't it strange that simgoober hadn't uploaded anything in so long, and as soon as pegasus comes up, the buildings (most of which were on the LEX already) come shooting out like bullets.

looks great man, but if you do want to make a lot of these type of places then you should make a hannnaford or price chopper which is around here in the northeast

To those making the less than positive and demanding comments on this and other uploads...who peed in your cornflakes this morning? Oh, I forgot, you were up all night BATing. As far as I'm concerned, it makes my week when a simgoober BAT pops up, whenever, wherever, and for whatever reason.

I love a lot of your work! I don't know if you're interested in doing any other Memphis landmarks, but there are some great old, classic buildings downtown. I'm terrible at making buildings and have resorted to asking people to make them.

It appears more effort was put into the description of the Real Life Piggly Wiggly company than into the description of your recreation of it. Since you won't list the dependencies or other important stats, I will have to rate based on your upload pictures instead. Rating to follow...

Model: 6/10 It looks good, but some of the lines are don't meet up and in places it appears choppy, Nightlights: 8/10 They look very realistic. I can't tell if the sign on the side of the building is lit, but what I can see looks excellent. Lot: 8/10 When it comes to the lot, especially a supermarket, less is more. Description: 3/10 (generous) More effort IS needed. Overall: 6.25 Good work, but could have easily been better.

Kendiecasttsoi: What's got your knickers is a twist? If you don't like dependencies, don't download it. Please rate on the quality of the model, not on your personal whims and desires. It's nice to see you uploading again, Simgoober.

People got mad at goober when he was uploading, then when he wasn't uploading and now he's back and some people still have nothing better to do but complain. Great work goober and ignore the jerks.

This is an excellent Bat SG - thanks for sharing. @ Ayohuhisdi; your attempt (s) at masking essentially derogatory comments by breaking each component into a rating out of 10 to arrive at a low score is repugnant: you add no value whatsoever.

I miss these! As a kid they were all over the Southern US and it was so exciting just to say the name and go there to shop for groceries. GOD BLESS YOU!

Remember the score is based on the whole project, not one aspect. Every upload that I rate get's the same style of rating. To be fair to the uploader, I let them know how I came up with the score. I could just post the number and give no reason, but then they will never know why they got the score, or how to improve thier work in the future, which is the point, is it not?
