Entry 74 -- Chumley (South Cindersville)
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
I couldn't build diagonal city blocks without Simcoug's houses! Thank you! I always like your style as well, especially your New York recreation too because you do some proper lotting. There's several mountains and hills in Cindersville, the largest ones are their own unique area. Speaking of planned that open-air Greek theatre was a masterpiece of MMP work. When I do start on Cities: Skylines you'll be amazed at what can be done. But there's still some juice left to squeeze from SC4 as I finish off the last projects. All the pedmalls are orthogonal but their texture matches up with the sidewalk texture, plus I have a sidewalk texture unification mod. Thus by including SFBT's diagonal fillers and some MMP sims I can create the illusion of diagonal pedmalls. You'll like the next three entries as they all set in the forests and mountains of the north-eastern part of Cindersville.- 16 Comments

Entry 73 -- Paxton South and East

Thanks for that Scaley McSlither! You'll like the next one as it has further mosaics and sometimes even longer mosaics. Cheers! Thank you! Without your FA buildings Cindersville may never have been attempted in the first place.- 7 Comments

Entry 72 -- Cindersville complete after 2 1/2 years in the making
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Thank you! It's never too late to start playing again. Thanks for your comment! A lot of things came together, including a unity of tree controller flora and building lot flora. I have never achieved that before which creates a more seamless transition from the urban to the rural! Finally glad it's all done!- 21 Comments

Entry 72 -- Cindersville complete after 2 1/2 years in the making
The British Sausage posted a City Journal entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
{---} Entry 72: Cindersville Completed! First of all thank you for the comments from the last entry and all the comments over the years. Now this project has been ongoing since the Spring of 2018, it started with new buildings and the idea of a highway cutting through a city built upon the joining of two valleys. After delays, being stumped as to how to proceed and a mega push this Summer and Autumn I have finally completed Cindersville. So sit back and enjoy this large entry as first I show the key locations of Cindersville and then second dedicate the rest of this entry to the northern part of Cindersville's City Centre. {---} 1. The two valleys are Cinders Valley (the largest one and the flattest), it runs from the south and then bends westwards. The second valley is Moreley which gently slopes downwards from the east and connects with Cinders Valley. The city centre is the joining of the two valleys. 2. The city centre is divided in two by the M6 highway. Above is the southern half of the city centre. 3. South of the city centre is Chumley. 4. West of the city centre. 5. East of the city centre. 6. East Chumley which is built against a eastern slope. 7. The centre of Hefnall which is built upon the Moreley Valley. Hefnall gets it's name from a nearby local mountain (Mount Hefnall). 8. The northwest of Hefnall which is built against the southern slopes of Mount Hefnall. 9. The southwest of Hefnall is built on the northern slopes of Paxton's Mound- the round-shaped hill in the south-east of Cindersville. 10. Mount Hefnall, one of three tall mountains that dominate the Cindersville skyline and located in the northeast. The other two mountains are: Pillar (in the northwest) and Rock of Heaven (southwest). 11. Hefnall Forest begins on the northern slopes of Mount Hefnall and the corresponding mountain ridges. This is the western part. 12. The eastern part of Hefnall Forest. 13. Paxton's Mound. While smaller than Mount Hefnall, Pillar and Rock of Heaven, large parts of Cindersville are built around it. Plus Paxton's Mound is a famous tourist attraction too. 14. Even the valleys have valleys. South of Paxton Mound is the area of Cindersville known as Paxton (built in the south-east part of the city). 15. Paxton extends around Paxton Mound, here are the western and northern areas which border Chumley and the city centre. 16. North of the city centre meets immediately with the hilly and mountainous landscape dominated by Pillar and Mount Hefnall. Between these two mountains is a minor valley cutting between the two, this is known as Maular Valley. This A-road is actually a mountain pass which ends at the very tip of the northern half of the city centre. 17. At the top of Maular Valley is the village of Kingsley, immediately next to Kingsley is the smaller mountain known as Pratchit's Top. Now Pratchit's Top is part of a mountain range, Temson Raise, which includes Pillar, Pratchit's Top marks the eastern-most point of this mountain range. 18. The southern half of Temson Raise (in the right half of the picture). 19. The northern half of Temson Raise, with Pillar in the bottom left of this picture. 20. This part of Cindersville is known as Awnsale. This suburban area is squeezed by the northern slopes of the Rock of Heaven (bottom part of the picture) and the southern slopes of Temson Raise and to some extent Pillar. The M6 highway cuts straight through Awnsale. 21. This is East Awnsale and is the first suburban area west of the city centre. 22. Between Chumley and the village of Derton (just seen in the picture's top) there is the Honister Mountain Pass. Now Honister is the name of a winding valley which snakes around the southern half of the Rock of Heaven. 23. Moving deeper into Honister Valley we reach the village of Derton. 24. The tallest of the mountains to border Cindersville is known as the Rock of Heaven. 25. And we come full circle to the northern half of Cindersville's city centre, we also see in the bottom of the picture the end part of Maular Valley. 26. The flat centre of Cindersville. {---} With the what's what and where's where of Cindersville complete, let's begin the entry proper! 27. We shall start with the northern half of the city centre. 28. Parts of this area are some of the very first locations I built in Cindersville, other parts are the last! 29. For the midrise buildings I used a mixture of Bixel's and Mattb325's content. 30. Midrise or low-rise but wide was very important as the city centre comes to a very abrupt end due to the terrain of the area. 31. To the left is the Youtube HQ which was created by Mattb325. 32. A very fine addition to any city! 33. Reaching the northeastern fringes of the city centre. 34. Running from east to west. 35. Monty's Roundabout. 36. Making use of C.P.'s FA buildings. 37. The literal centre of the city centre's northern half is Jacqueline Park. 38. The avenue fillers were created by Motokloss. 39. Mid-rise and chunky is ideal for building realistic city centres. 40. Jacqueline Park. 41. It took several hours to complete this area as I needed to find the right kind of park plus select the right kind of buildings. Technically Jacqueline Park is a square roundabout! 42. I even squeezed in a tiny bit of fractionally-angled buildings too! 43. To the right of the FA building are some of Simgoober's low-rise commercial buildings. Old but gold! 44. Special thanks must be given to KingOfSimCity who created these fantastic parks. 45. The northern half of the city centre is defined by the M6 highway. 46. 47. Incorporating the M6 highway was very tricky and ultimately required a lot of MMP work. 48. Since the curving areas can never be fully filled-in this necessitates a small green divide between highway and urban areas. 49. And here is another one of KingOfSimCity's parks! 50. One of my favourite areas of Cindersville purely for the contrast of concrete car park and green city park! 51. One of the reasons for building Cindersville was creating actual grid-busting city blocks. This became possible in 2018 with a whole bunch of fractionally-angled buildings created by Mattb325. Throw in the fractionally-angled industrial and 19th century buildings of C.P. and of course the other diagonal buildings made throughout the years (old and new) and scenes like this are now possible. As an added bonus I decided MMP back alleys and car-parking was the only way to go. Now urban MMPing is very time-consuming but well worth it! 52. After this large entry I'll be posting the next one this Thursday. See you then!- 21 Comments

@MilitantRadical Love the cube-shaped buildings! They remind me of SC2000's arcologies! Part of the IHT CAM buildings aren't they?

Scaramoushe: Thanks a lot for that comment! {---} Entry 49: Pololomia's City Centre This is entry is self-explanatory, but there are a lot of pictures. Almost fifty of them, so enjoy! This entry took longer to create because there were so many CTDs when I was taking pictures of the city centre, so that slowed down things, plus there were a lot of pictures to edit as well. Experimenting some more with cloud-generation via use of GIMP tools. Here's another example of creating a cloudy night. / I use a render tool, using the fog setting (first selecting a colour, then distribution and then opacity), to create cloudy, atmospheric cloud layers over the original picture. I discovered this can be applied to mosaics as well!

Entry 72 -- Cindersville complete after 2 1/2 years in the making
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Thanks for that Matt! Most of the time it was enjoyable but for the last three months it was a real slog as I knew what had to be done, it was simply getting it done! I also use many things to blend everything together, including the Sudden Valley terrain mod, building themes (hand-picked so to speak) and of course a grass lot terrain conformity mod which was created by rsc204. Thanks! You're going to smell that even more in the following entry! Thanks for your comment! It was a concoction of sorts, especially the rural areas where I used MMP themes to match general terrain elevations. Cheers for the compliment. Also this stuff takes time and experience. I never expected Cindersville to take so long but it came out as it should in the end. Korver does something similar with quality and various details, he builds giant city scenes with techniques which we mortals don't have access to. Everything you see here can be created solely from use of downloaded buildings, lots, fillers, terrain textures, road textures, MMPs and mods. It can just take a long time to finish! Thanks for that tariely! Probably used some of your parks and Paeng park extension sets SOMEWHERE in this city tile. I'm retiring from SC4 (after two more projects are finished) because Cities: Skylines is the future and I'll be upgrading my computer rig. Thus the time is ripe to move on but there is still some unfinished business left with SC4, which will keep be busy well into 2021. But an end is in sight! Thank you! One other technique I use is GIMP to sharpen the colours, make them contrast more, or make the picture more vivid and of course mosaics! The mountains will look even better up close and I am planning square-mosaics of entire rural areas to see every part of them. I haven't created one of those in years! {---} Thank you for the comments, the praise and the feedback. Rest assured the entries from Cindersville will push this CJ comfortably into 2021. While there is the New York recreation project (The Big Mango) to finish off and at least one another project I would like to finish. So it will be some time in the middle of 2021 when this CJ finally comes to an end and I finally leave SC4 to move on to Cities: Skylines. Meanwhile, here is your next SC4 fix. An entry of the following area below known as Paxton- Enjoy the weekend!- 21 Comments

Entry 72 -- Cindersville complete after 2 1/2 years in the making
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
There's still more to come, the 20+ entries from Cindersville and of course there is the New York recreation project to finish as well (The Big Mango). So I'll be retiring from SimCity 4 sometime in 2021. First and only city so far which I can truly say is grid-busting. Three years I didn't even think this was possible. Thank you! Also good to see you around as well! Cheers! There's another 20+ entries from Cindersville, so there's a lot more to show and a lot more mosaics to create. Thank you! I think it's about a 100000 people in the city tile and it's a functional city. It's not the only work that needs completing, there is still of course my New York recreation project to finish and one or two others that have been started but not finished... Thank you! It saves me having to puke latinum droplets from one of my stomachs! Personally my favourite llama emoji is the llama moving from side-to-side. I use those as my highest level of praise, below that the thumbs up llama, below that the nodding llama and below that the like.- 21 Comments

It only took two and half years but at last Cindersville is at last completed! The last area to finish was the empty city centre area bordering the highway. Thanks a lot for all the comments and support over the years. Enjoy the pictures here. First half are the numerous locations of Cindersville and this place is VERY varied. The second half is the entry proper with the tour of the city centre's northern half. And at last, at the end of all things, this project is now complete.

That is Mattb325's diagonal courthouse. A very useful diagonal building to have! Wow! RIP to a film giant. Aside from James Bond he was also awesome in Indiana Jones The Last Crusade, Hunt for Red October and of course The Untouchables.

YES Throw in some gravel MMPs and they would work in more rural settings too. Useful for MMP villages as well! Nicely done.

I go over the same area several times with different varieties of gravel, rocks and scree. It's the only way to make sure the rock MMPs don't stand out like a sore thumb on rocky and/or barren terrain textures. Very cool! They almost look like Starfleet ship on water! I go all around the top-half of the mountain. First pass is marking the areas which will contain scree slopes, boulder fields and rocky terrain, I either add these little stone clusters from the VIP MMP Pack (which takes a while) or throw in some large Heblem gravel. Second pass is adding Murimk boulder rocks (but the ones which don't add shadows), nbvc's stones and the smaller version of Heblem gravel. Third pass is checking over the entire area to throw in a bit more of everything, and some browner gravel in places, to create a rocky layer comprised entirely of MMPs and obscuring the underlying terrain textures but blending in with the rock faces and cliff textures beneath/above it.

While everyone here is spamming boats, airplanes, spaceports or British buildings I've gone for a land-based entry. These pictures are from the reworked south-western part of Cindersville, the final area to complete. 1. I had to upgrade the rock work of previous areas. 2. I had to finish off the northern slopes of the mountain dominating the south-western corner of Cindersville. 3. The mountain in question. This has seen before but I've added a lot more scree slopes and broaded the mountain's rocky, boulder-like top. 4. I also had to finish off the forest work and rock work on the eastern slopes. 5. It took about three passes (one-hour sessions) to get the scree, rocks and paths looking alright. 6. And a mosaic- because why not? /// With all that said everything will be ready in a week's time and, at the end of this month, I'll be at last ready to post entries from a completed Cindersville. It only took two years and a half!

These three city blocks are half a mile away from the southern point of Brooklyn Bridge and quarter a mile away from Downtown Brooklyn. The thing is I'm using less than 20 buildings when I recreate strictly w2w brownstone blocks and the thing is the buildings in these three blocks, highlighted in wood, would be more than enough for diagonal city blocks. It should be noted that the city blocks in this Brooklyn area are at a rough grid angle of 45 degrees direction compared with the most of the city blocks in lower Manhattan. 187-195 Amity Street. This is within the red area I highlighted in the first picture. Also, thanks a lot for your efforts as well! I like the dirtier texture work you do and this is just great for SC4! NOICE! Would probably make a good 1x1 corner block too!

Wow! There's probably two or three frequent contributors on this topic who known about prop families and turning models to props. @mattb325 would probably know! Those tenements are really cool but they're not New York style... Even if it's just plopping in a static model I would be happy as FA is FA!

Very nice! Can't tell if this is four bridges and an intersection together, or four 1x3 bridge props. Either way they look and those white lines on the intersection are subtle but a very nice touch. Really cool! If they were a few stories higher I could use them for my New York recreation project. I have plans to create diagonal brownstone city blocks, though I could do FA if there are the buildings for it, right there aren't any buildings for diagonal brownstones, or (right now) FA brownstones. All you need for these models is several variations and the FA garage to be complete. Creating orthogonal brownstone city blocks is very easy. But right there are zero ways of creating diagonal brownstone city blocks. I plan for diagonal city blocks (in the top left area of the picture) to break up the grid and to half-emulate that area of Brooklyn... Though I could work in some FA if you release these models which are pretty amazing!
