  1. simcity 4 Sharing Plugins Folders - Discussion

    Well not just his plugins folder.... see my idea of using a unified application for downloading and installing plugins is assuming that Simtropolis as a community would endorse the endevour, and let the database that all the current files reside be indexed by an outside source or application. ALSO of note would be contacting all members who have made LARGE contributions to the custom content (prime example PEGASUS) that may or may not be active online anymore. explicit agreement that the product still be used under Simtropolis and the STEX and LEX would have to be maintained. I actually suggest that Simtropolis endorse the project as a NEW delivery method (similiar to the cd's) and roll all the current content into whatever method gets created.. that wouldn't break any rules or agreements with communities. but again, content would have to get reworked and revised to work more fluidly.. ie dependencies being packaged as a core asset (1 package vs 6 or 7) building models that are shared across bats being universal and not duplicated in the system etc etc... just food for thought.

    @Haljackey Can you post the 7gb in a google drive or something id be interested if that would work? Also, i posted something about creating a more fluid download and install methodology in another thread, (dont have it at the moment) but it would act like a installer pulling from a central database and you can pick and choose what features you add, and it would install all required dependencies etc. Edit: Actually it was on this discussion forum..

    Some interchanges I have done on my region recently. Haljackey youtube videos have been a godsend! i have just recently started getting more into the Fractionally angled stuff though and intend to make my highways look much better. Also still learning the NWM for those intricate networks on the inner city.

    So i am glad to see this topic has gained so much traction. I really think its time for the mods available to be packaged in a streamline option for players looking to get into simcity4. So my suggestion is this: Major modders and reputable simmers should vote on the essentials content. - mods that are known to function 100% without CTD and are used to improve game mechanics for the additional content. (slopemod, Ind duplicator etc) -Mods for terrain have been around for a while and there are many options that should be consolidated under one encompassing installer. most people only play with one particular style of terrain mod. but some like options. those modders will go the normal route of swapping files after install but they will be available. OBVIOUSLY the NAM and all associated portions. RAM, RRM, SAM etc... part of the overall installer. The rest of the installer should provide options for the grow-able portion of the game. If BSC is selected it should include all the top rated 100% functioning mods for BSC or something along those lines. all the batters really should make one large dependency pack for their creations. it would be wonderful to have one DAT file that is a go to for everything and therefor no big ugly boxes. i have some other ideas on this but this is just a basic outline i have in my head about it. im sure everything has been touched on already but i appreciate the feedback I got bored and decided to mock up what a possible app would look like if it were coded by somebody who knows what they are doing.... the app would create file structure, maintain the dependencies requirements and notify the end user if there is something missing. it would remove the install process we currently have requiring an install of each mod separately (the bane of my existence) . It would link to Simtropolis for user information and tracking. also any updates to mods would notify the user and they can install the updated model or package on the fly. Comments and criticisms welcome. I hope i uploaded the pictures right.
  5. I am loving this topic immensely! 1, because its recent (within last two years ), and 2 its relevant to my current dilemma. I got onto the SC4 bandwagon back in 2009, I never trolled the forums but spent HOURS downloading content from SimPeg, Jeronji, Simgoober, and a whole list more. I build from the mods and add-ons presented to me. I was never very good at doing the BAT thing. With that said, I think the statement that content is starting to taper off and the content that has survived the test of time has been made known. Has anyone considered making a universal texture pack (1 Pack) to reduce the amount of time downloading and installing dependencies? When rebuilding my structure i would hate to have to reinstall the dat files using the installers. as i dont do the BAT things maybe im not aware of what goes into it but it seems like maybe now is the time to develop an installer of verified add-ons. one installer that gives you check boxes of what mods you want to install and installs the dependencies with it. Forgive me if im going off topic here.

    I have been building a custom region that would look fantastic with a swamp like area. Are there any mods or add-ons that could create that effect? I have a lot of the old SIMpeg stuff from when the SIMpeg site was active. Thanks !

  9. Murimk MMP Rocks - Pack 1

    are there any issues with this rock pack and some rock mods? i recently installed a terrain mod by peg that changes the normal cliff color to a granite look.. when im awarded the city hall and plop it the corners in the front of the lot load what looks like random rocks from your plugin. except supersized so it covers street and what not. is there any known glitches like that?
