City suddenly not loading (no reference to object)

Hey guys, My city suddenly does not load anymore. Between yesterday (when it loaded fine) and today, it stopped loading and I have no idea why. I did not download or activate any new mods or assets, and I also don't remember placing any new assets that I downloaded before but hadn't placed yet. I am suspecting the problem is with Traffic ++, as the error I get is identical to the errors I got just after the last update, when traffic++ wasn't compatible with the game for a couple of days. The only mod that this city uses and the other doesnt is 2 busses that I downloaded as assets. could they be the problem? but even then, these buses used to work just fine.I really don't want to lose this city because I put a lot of work into it -

Okay, so the patch is working fine for me and I 'untangled' some of my metro network with the new tools. However, my big issue is that the stations cannot be built at different levels, and you can't build an 'intersection station' (two platforms underneath each other). This make it fairly useless that the metro can now be grade separated, doesn't it? In any real life city, if two metro lines cross each other there is an important intersection station. But now you can only have a metro line run underneath the station with no transfer possibility. -
Screen turns upside-down when saving

Hi, I have this very odd problem that my screen turns upside down whenever I save, both using the autosave mod and when saving manually. After it freezes upside-down for a moment, I can play agan. Now the oracle Google tells us that this can be because I lowered the resulation of the game. As my laptop can barely handle the game at all I did this to get it to run faster. So is there a way to stop the upside-down thing without using a higher resolution? As my laptop can barely handle that. -
A true turbo roundabout (at least as they occur in my country) disallows u-turns on the roundabout. Though this cannot be done in the standard C:SL it can be done using the traffic management mod (lane changer); however disallowing a certain turn does not always work ( regularly see cars making a right turn even if I disallow it). You also want right-turn sliproads to further decrease the amount of traffic on the roundabout.

I am officially below minimum settings, but I can still play the game. I cannot run anything besides the game and of course I have to use lower graphics settings and it sometimes goes quite slow, but it´s still play able. -

I'd like to see bus-only lanes, please, and a better system for laying out bus routes. What I would like, is that you can just plop bus stops (preferably several types, such as basic, moderate and bus-station size) and then draw bus lines between all the stations. That way managing bus lines in areas that already have a lot of bus lines on one route becomes easier. Also, maybe I missed it, but I think the fact that there are only 2-lane and 6-lane one way roads is quite odd. Why not add a 3 lane and 4 lane and 5 lane one way road as well? Especially because traffic and lane management in this game is quite complicated that would make my life a whole lot easier.- 307 Replies

First, make sure that the Ave-6 does actually function, by temporarily demolishing the OWR. If it does function, then yeah I guess you just need to do something about the OWR. You can't force the sims to use a road they don't want to, except if you close off the unwanted alternative route.

I absolutely love this ! Very compact, yet elegant, and quite high-capacity too. I love the rich neighbourhood. But does traffic on the road have an opportunity to make a u-turn onto the RHW?

... what do you mean exactly? Maybe post your own examples? A new concept I have been doing in my cities is Dutch/Belgian-style 'linear settlements'; I start with building curvy, winding roads alongside logical geographical areas (such as a coastline or river, or just between two existing cities) and build development along that road, with only agriculture in between. Later, I build more modern development in between the linear settlements. The roads tend to be quite busy and the development is mixed commerical and residential. Sometimes the roads get so busy, that a highway is built near them to relieve the traffic. I'll post pics later.

Yep, fitting in a highway in built-up area is very hard, both in Simcity and in real-life. Using RHW makes it even more impossible, though you are using maxis highway so it won't be too hard I guess. What I usually do now, is reserve space for highways. As I build my city, I extend the highway until the next junction, bit by bit.

Almost unrecognizable: the single lane highway was widened to two lanes, and a bypass highway was created as well, replacing the initial junction. I did leave room for the widening when building the RHW-2, but the bypas was constructed right through built-up terrain... Before: After:

I don't think I have my older regions anymore, but I do have this in a recent region. All traffic (and it's a LOT) has to make this really weird turn over a single-lane road and across a railroad crossing, because it's a very tight spot with the highway and the railroad and some nasty slopes and the station, so there's no room for an avenue. That's what you get if you draw the railroad and highway first (at different heights too...), then build residential behind the railroad in such a way that nobody can get onto the highway... I have no idea how to fix this without a MAJOR reorganization (and demolishing many buildings). Oh well...

Wow, nice industrial areas guys ! I rarely find myself willing to make my industrial areas really pretty; I just zone enormous amounts of high density industrial, and make sure it has all the resources it needs and call it a day...

Wait, how exactly does this work? Do you have an HOV lot that is only accesible by buses and not cars? That's great ! Where can I get it? I always thought the only such lot was an actual bus stop Buses also driving on normal roads is not really a problem; cities in Holland that have bus-only roads like these also have buses on regular roads, for example to service nieghbourhoods which are not served by the major bus system. However, cars getting onto the bus road is a big no-no. Also, in such a large city I think you are going to be getting so much bus traffic that a single lane road is not enough, you would need a bus-only avenue on the main arteries (for example near train stations or near highway entrances or something).

A couple of my interchanges. Most of these do not allow traffic in every direction (mostly because there was too little space), though it's always possible for traffic to take an off-ramp then get back onto the highway using another on-ramp. I used to have kick-ass interchanges in previous regions, though... For example, I don't have a single four-way interchange in this region yet. This is one I really, really hate, because it causes complete gridlock and it doesn't look very well either. The bridge is what makes this one hard. This is a recent one that I actually like because of the railway, but I think the capacity of only one lane is too low. Alas there was no room for two lanes on the slip roads. This one took about half a village being torn down, but it did prove its worth in terms of traffic reduction. All the traffic was going through the village at first.

Hey guys ! This time a bit of a less drastic, but still annoying problem. I downloaded the Diagonal Bridge Mod (wonderful mod by the way !!!), and succesfully - as far as I can judge - I built a beautiful diagonal avenue bridge the way the readme shows - with parallel 'shared tile' RHW-2s and the undertruss avenue bridge puzzel pieces. The bridge looks great, but nobody is using it ! I am positive that this is not just because the bridge is a detour (in fact it's not really because there's a stretch of highway leading to it) because when I remove a parallel existing bridge (so that the new bridge would be the only available route) they still don't use it. It's also not a RHW problem as the sims do use other stretches of RHW in this city. When I drive over it in u drive it mode, it works fine, and the Draw Paths cheat also shows no problems. I will post a screenshot with and without draw paths enabled to show you. I have also given you pictures of the leading on and off ramps with the draw paths cheat on. I am pretty positive that I constructed those well so they should not be the problem. I use the avenue A-ramp puzzle piece. What can I do to get my sims to use the bridge?

CTD upon startup after installing Airport Mods

Firstly, some disclaimers. Yes, I have read the CTD thread. Yes, I have read the readmes. Yes, I have tried deleting the file sthat I recently installed. No, I do not think anything has changed to my windows 7 recently. Good. Yesterday, I tried to install the following mods: The Airport Tram, the Airport Support File, SWAP 2.2 and X-ports airports and seaports. My intention was to put the airport tram lot (a 1x1 lot that simulates a maxis airport) at the edge of my city near a highway, then later build an eyecandy airport on an adjacent city tile. I build the airport tram lot, but noticed I got a brown box. I closed the game, ran the cleanitol file and installed a whole load of prop packs which where missing. Then I reloaded the game to see if it was working, but I get a CTD when the game starts up ! This also means I cannot delete the corrupt airport tram lot... I tried deleting all the airport mod files from my plugins folder, but I still cannot start up my city. Other cities without the corrupted lot work fine. I have read that the airport mods tend to cause CTDs with more people, so I think my question is not a 'stupid' one. This is the first time I have installed any airport related mods though (never bothered with airports, even Maxis airports, first). What do? Thanks in advance ! -

Okay, I got it to work somehow ! Perhaps I wasn't using the right patch or something. It is now version .638. I am not sure if I even dare to install the BAT nightlights (which should make it .640) at this point, perhaps at some later point, and definitely after I backup the entire thing. And with the patching, my broken city works ! I immediately removed the corrupt airport tram lot. It might work at some point, but I'll back up first before I try it again. Thanks for all your help anyway, this is great, absolutely great ! It was the biggest city in my region and I was really sad that I had lost it. -

Might it be that it's pointing to an incorrect folder? My exe file is MOST CERTAINLY named simcity 4.exe (with the space). I put the patch in my Apps folder, yet now it says that 'old file not found'. What gives?
