A Sim. A Mayor. A God. Fit 0x00: Landing ... I found myself once again in that space between awakeness and sleep; The drowsy, buzzing feeling clouded my head and senses. It had been years since I had woken up truly refreshed, and last night's sleep was no different. By day, I was in a perpetual state of war, war against dreams, against dozing off. And yet at night when I wished for those things to come, they would not, or else they would play with my mind, appearing, disappearing, until the line between my bed and my dream was blurred beyond recognition. Sometimes I couldn't tell if I was dreaming or awake. Were the people I saw, the places I visited, just a figment of my imagination? Was reality simply a delusion, and the dreams I had was the true reality? Of course, then I would wake up in my bed, get up, and start the cycle all over again. In fact, today my bed felt unusually uncomfortable, as if I was not on a mattress but was instead rolling over a pile of grain... I awoke to find myself on the side of a road, next to a greenhouse, under an apple tree. This was definitely not where I fell asleep last night. And I was wearing clothes now, not pajamas. How did this happen? I got up and walked around the greenhouse until I came to the door. It was locked, of course. I had hoped that there would be someone around to explain how long I had been under that tree. I looked up and down the street. With the sun just rising over the horizon, I sort of expected that there would be someone tending to the fields, but there seemed to be no-one around at all. Where was I? I walked down one way of the road I was on. After passing through a clump of trees, I saw an equestrian farm in the distance. Surely there would be someone there! But after walking up the path to the barn, I found it to be empty as well. I headed back to the greenhouse. With the sun's glare less intense, I could see in the distance signs of a town. I decided I might as well head over there. Surely somebody must be in town! I passed by more fields. Somehow, I had the feeling that I had been here before... just a brief taste of déjà vu though. And I had those sort of feelings all the time. Perhaps it was the sea air; I could hear and smell the ocean that was just a few hundred meters away. Finally, I arrived at town. It was a small village, with just one street for commerce. There were lots of cars parked around, but they were all located inside used car dealerships. How many auto dealers did a small village need!? The only signs of activity was at one of the dining trucks. I walked up past the benches to the counter, behind which a middle aged woman stood. "Good morning, sir. What can I get for you?" Her voice seemed a bit more tired than her looks would suggest. "Uh, coffee, please. Whatever is the strongest brew you have." Although I guess my voice sounded pretty tired before. It wasn't often that I walked half a kilometer right after getting up from a bed of dirt. "Only have one kind of strength here, hon." As she handed the mug over to me, I asked "Excuse me, er, Celia," looking at her name tag, "do you know where I am?" She gave me a very quizzical look. "You don't know where you are?" "No... not too sure how I got here either." She looked me over. "Did you spend last night out in the fields?" "...Yeah, I guess. So, what's the name of this village?" "It's New City, of course." "That's a rather odd name for a village." "Well, we could bring it up to our City Council to change the name to something more appropriate, if you wished." She gave me a knowing look. "I... think it's fine. Oh... I don't have any money for the coffee. Sorry." "That's fine, I'll just add it to your tab. Have a great day, Mr. Mayor!" I waved goodbye, grateful for the generosity. Then I stopped. Mayor? Was that really possible? Surely she was mistaken. There was no chance I was outgoing enough to win a campaign to any political office. The sun had risen high in the sky by this time. I walked in a daze down the main street, lost in thought, passing through a residential neighborhood. I soon found myself on an empty beach. There seemed to be some small scows out on the water, too far to wade out though. Further down the road was an industrial district. Up on the hill I could see a row of windmills making their revolutions. There were people in the factories working (it seemed to be mostly canning and steelworks), but they were all too busy to notice me or answer my calls. Taking the other road back to town, I passed by the landfill. I briefly considered taking a look at what a small village like this threw away, but decided against it. After all, I would surely need a shower afterwards, and I hadn't noticed any inns. And all through this walk, my feelings of déjà vu kept increasing. The buildings and settings around me seemed to have come from my memories, a memory that I could just barely touch but couldn't fully actualize. Right before reaching town again, there was a road that was marked as "Hill Entrance". I decided I might as well go up and get a feel for the land. The road ended in a small parking lot, completely filled. There was a man attending to the lot. "Business good?" I asked. "You could say so. Of course, the entry fee is really low, so it's not much of a living..." He had a fairly low voice, and seemed a bit perkier than Celia. "You want to go up?" "Yeah, but I don't have any money on me..." "Oh, it's no problem, you're always welcome to go, Mr. Mayor!" There it was again. I really needed to find a picture of the mayor. I didn't feel up to explaining that I wasn't the mayor, so I started walking up. I wasn't too sure what the fee was paying for... there was no path, and there seemed to be no barrier to anybody making the climb without passing through the entry lot. Luckily, the hill was quite gentle, so I had no problem getting to the top. The top of the hill was flat and bare. The sides quickly dropped down to the ocean. I turned towards the town. Oh, WELL. This was my town! The town I had built in SimCity 4 last night! What was I doing here? How did I even get here? Was I in the game? A dream? Is this for real? It certainly FELT real, and I couldn't pinch myself awake either What am I going to do now? Next: Acquaintance Please excuse the stilted / purple prose. I don't do creative writing very often.

This is a long shot, but have you tried it in both windowed ("-w" commandline argument) and fullscreen ("-f") mode? At any rate, if it doesn't work at your full resolution, you could just run the game in a window at the largest size it loads at (so that there aren't any weird stretching issues). Also going to put my lot with wishing for a 2560x1440 monitor. It'd sure help to have more space to have more folders open side by side, not to mention being able to see more lines of code at a time...

^ Thanks for breaking my eyes, Dude. Somebody on the last page posted a link to a general Know Your Meme entry for Simcity. Interestingly, there is in fact an actual meme for SimCity... {except it's SC2K, involving the transport advisor} (you know, the guy who yells at you all the time)

The answer is simple. Those sims are commuting to a secret underground government facility.

You need to check "Disable Visual Themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition" in the compatibility tab as well to get SC4Tool to run.

How To Install STEX BATs, Lots and Maps
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Simtropolis Help Squad's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
Windows XP and up can open compressed folders and have them act like regular folders by default. You would just select the files you want to copy into the plugins folder, and do so regularly (right click menu or dragging). You can also use a decompressor program, like {7 Zip}. -
Is there any version of SC2K that works well on Windows XP?
Yuu Caa Sim replied to simcityer73's topic in City-Building Games
What sort of problems do you have with animations? In the thread you linked to it's not very clear, but I think you're saying that animations either don't happen or are really sped up? I just tested this on my Windows 98 and Windows XP computers, and found that animations don't occur unless there is something moving on the screen (like trains, which you said you work, but also airplanes, boats, etc.). So it seems that the game needs something moving in order to refresh the screen so that animations will show. This was all in 32-bit colors. When I switched the color to 256 (by compatibility in XP and changing the settings in 98), animations worked all the time. So the only compatibility setting that you should have to change is to make the game run in 256 colors. I left all the other settings alone, and the game worked as expected. It actually says this in the readme, in fact: The large bolded part is relevant I've got the special edition as well, and have run this game in Windows 3.1, 95, 98, XP, and Vista, and never really noticed this issue (I didn't really find it very important to have animations). I've also got it sort of running on my 64-bit Windows 7 system, but I can't do anything that opens a load/save dialog, since the libraries that SC2K uses for that don't seem to exist in 64-bit OS's, so the game crashes. -
SC4 Startup Manager - manage your plugins!
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Andreas Roth's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
Actually, I've gotten two different profiles to be set into one region before. It's not at the same granularity as city level profile swapping, but as long as you remember which profile your using and the cities you want to use them with, it's around the same effect. Obviously, you wouldn't want to use a profile with a city that contains buildings that's not present in the profile, but if you're going from Maxis-only to Maxis + CC, it should be fine. -
Another thing that might be happening is that your sims don't have any way to get back from work in the evening. It seems from the picture that your sims need to use the highway to get to their jobs, but then coming home, there isn't any way to get from the opposite flow of the highway into the residential district. I don't know for sure if it is necessary (but it makes sense in real life); just something else to try.

The problem lies in the fact that changing the water utility slider affects more than just the capacities of your water producing buildings. Changing the slider also affects funding for pipes as well. Lowering funding for pipes will eventually cause burst pipes, just like lowering funding for roads will eventually cause potholes.

Simcity4 Deluxe Graphic Problems?
Yuu Caa Sim replied to simcitykevin123's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
This is caused by the NAM. It changes zones data view so that props are not hidden like they are in an unmodded game. I think it was done to allow for viewing transit stations, but I'm not sure. It also has the benefit of letting you switch out of the zone data view a lot quicker, since the game doesn't have to redraw the props; they're already there. Just in case you're thinking about it, you shouldn't remove the NAM because of this issue. The NAM really helps in making the game more enjoyable and realistic. -
they are also found on the CDs. If you have Deluxe, it should be there. If you have SC4 vanilla + a separate copy for Rush Hour, it will be on disc one of the vanilla disks

These developer types require high education sims. Higher wealth Commercial demand dropped, since there aren't any high education sims demanding them (new sims are always less educated and more prone to crime; the lower the resident wealth, the lower the education). Keep in mind that educating sims to high levels takes a long time (several decades with comprehensive education services).

I like mountains too. Especially when they are hand-terraformed. Great shots, Dragonxander! I really love how lush and rugged your mountains are. You also did a great job in drawing roads through them!

Still paying for a park after demolishing it.
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Mister Giggles's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I thought I'd give a try at finding out the cause of this issue. After comparing this fountain to another park lot I have (actually the only other one currently installed because I haven't reloaded my plugins), I found that the Konietzko fountain did not have the "Budget Item: Line" Property that the other lot had. After adding this property and setting the value to be the same (0), the lot now seems to function correctly, and does not stay in the budget menu after being demolished. I'm only a novice at modding SC4, so I don't quite know what this property is for. At any rate, my copy of this plugin is now fixed! I wonder if we could convince Equinox to fix the download if he comes around again... -
Simtropolis 7.3.3 Bugs/Issues Report Thread
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Kevin's topic in Simtropolis Related
I can't tell for sure, but it seems that the default font size has decreased since my last visit a week ago. If so, I would like to petition that the default size be increased back. My eyesight isn't very good, and the current size kind of strains my eyes. If there is a way to change the font size using the user settings, that would be great as well. I guess I could just use the zoom function of my browser, but that occasionally seems to break the site design, making everything look bad and out of place. (Font size seems small on IE9, FF13, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. ) -
can't launch sc4 mapper and sc4 terraformer
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Boys's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
You might consider posting your issue at the {official support forum on SC4Devotion}. Two other possibilities for your issue: 1. Your copy of the Terraformer got corrupted. Try re-downloading the program and see if the new copy works. 2. Are you sure you have all the needed DLL files? On my computer, I also needed "MSVCP71.dll" installed in the same directory as the Terraformer before it would run. -
Is your game updated to the latest version? (1.1.640.0 or 1.1.641.0)

Bridge over island... is it possible?
Yuu Caa Sim replied to Han Solo's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you use the ferry networks (passenger & passenger+car ferry terminals), then the paths connecting terminals together won't pass through low bridges, dividing up the network. While selecting a bridge, you should be able to raise the height of the bridge if the area surrounding the bridgeheads are empty. You could also terraform the areas where the bridge starts / ends beforehand to make them high enough -
Yes, there is a Dolan Dye in the game. Image from SC4Tool

#1 is "Insufficient Arms", by Cerulean (CARCH). You can find the lot {here on SC4D}. That download only contains lots; the actual building models are dependencies contained in one of the MEGA prop packs listed. {Here is a quick link to all the prop packs} (they are at the bottom of the page). For #2, I don't know which building you are referring to. If it is the one in the center or the back, I don't know. The one in the front to the left is {Geometry International Inc}.

I'm Back! and having problems with installing...
Yuu Caa Sim replied to bigthing's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
If you're going to set up Virtual XP mode anyways, you might as well try SimCity with it. Sometimes when sound drivers are faulty, the game won't work as well. Maybe try setting it to full screen at a resolution of 1024x768? So the shortcut would be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1 -f -CustomResolution:enabled -r1024x768x32 -intro:off (You should try this with only one monitor first) -
I'm Back! and having problems with installing...
Yuu Caa Sim replied to bigthing's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Simcity has problems running at resolutions other than those you can set in Windows {as detailed in this post at SC4D}. I don't know how this affects multi-monitor setups, but try disconnecting one and then running the game at the resolution of the monitor that is left (or at one of SC4's built in resolutions). You might also try explicitly setting fullscreen mode (with the -f switch) and see it that helps. There was also a thread a while ago with this same issue. The problem was eventually traced to a running anti-virus program (Avira, I think). If you have any anti-virus running (or in fact any sort of program running), turn them off before playing the game. I also had this same problem way back when I got this game in 2003. I couldn't figure out what the problem with, other than the fact that the computer I was playing on sucked hard and did the same thing to several of my other games. I got a new computer and haven't had much problems since.
