Help Removing A Commuter Loop
nonessentialnoodle replied to nonessentialnoodle's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Thanks for the suggestions, Ive had a try and got together a few screenshots - see if you read the situation as being as bad as what Im seeing. And yeah the region has a super original name Ive played each map for a bit now, for at least a couple of in-game years on each 1 and mixed the zone types up a bit but then gone to check the census information and for Tiles 1 and 2 the loop has apparently got even worse (there are even more people entering than before). Sims are now still traveling particularly from tile 4 to 2 via tile 1. The situation in Tile 3 seems better since isolating it from Tile 4 but the census is still showing me no difference. I think my next approach is going to be to cut the links between 1 and 2 and see what happens when Im effectively left with 2 pairs as in theory the traffic in 2 and 3 at least then has nowhere else to go as it cant go back on itself. If that can reset the situation Ill then re-do the neighbour connections with a better layout and something of a tree structure rather than a loop. Ill keep tinkering with it till I find something Im happy to work with, whether I can entirely stop the loop or not, the region is probably 10 years old so does have a few issues but at the same time I'm reluctant to totally abandon it. If you guys have anymore suggestions of your own Ill give it a try too, if I find something that works Ill be sure to share it! -
Hi there, I havent been active on Simtropolis for several years but Ive decided to re-visit Simcity 4 so here I am! Anyway Im revisiting an old region which is already established across 6 or so large map tiles. Unfortunately looking at it from a fresh perspective a serious commuter loop has formed between 4 of the cities which are arranged in a grid of 4. All 4 of these city tiles are built up around a shared corner which includes various neighbour connections. This has now allowed the sims to continually commute around the 4 tiles in a circular fashion from this corner. Tile 1 is my main downtown which is a fully developed large tile, with a fairly even balance of jobs and residents. Tile 2 is mainly industrial. Tile 3 is mainly residential with some industry. Tile 4 is an extension of the downtown and includes offices and residential. The traffic query has been giving me figures of 50000 using each connection although the number fluctuates wildly and is never the same for long. The census building tells me that in Tile 2 there are 2 million people commuting in which is leaving a shortage of over 1 million jobs. The census at Tile 3 tells me there are 350000 commuting in which is leaving a shortage of nearly 350000 jobs. Is there any way to stop this cycle? I tried removing the neighbour connections from the corners but then they just commuted to the next available connection halfway across the map. Ive now deleted all connections between Tile 3 and Tile 4. Its not ideal but this leaves me with Tile 4 connected directly to Tile 1 and Tile 3 connected to 2 which is connected to 1. Although this has killed all traffic between tiles 3 and 4 it doesn't appear to have changed the census (assuming I'm reading the census query correctly) or changed the traffic at all in Tile 2. Has anybody got any suggestions on how to make the loop stop? Is it a case of having to cut all neighbour connections until things calm down? I know this topic has been addressed a bit already, I hope Im not duplicating but most of what I found previously is strategies to avoid it in the first place not to undo the effects of an existing loop! Thanks for any help

If you could Id be sure to give it another try - Im getting frustrated by commute loops now so considering starting over anyway but Ill save that for another topic! As for my initial problem regarding the NAM installation: as you suggested deleting the Network Addon and z___NAM folders from my plugins then running the installer again did the trick and got me back to the Maxis rail textures, thanks!

Thanks for the response. Ill backup and have a go at a clean install when I get the chance, I think Ive been through the installer options so many times now I can remember all the things to re-select! As for the textures, I get what youre saying, my problem is with my region really, not the mod itself. The existing region I'm playing is so old it has too many tight curves and viaduct pieces for me to go through and replace them all and many lack the space to even make this possible.

Hi there, I seem to be having some issues re-running the installer to remove the real railways mod, wondering if anyone can help. I ran the NAM35 installer and all went fine, I dont know what version of NAM I had before but I last played SC4 towards the end of 2012 and this was installed over the top of that version. I thought I would give the real railways mod a try but Im not convinced as its missing textures on the viaducts on my existing region. So I ran the installer again to remove RRW but heres where issues are coming up - the custom installation isn't remembering all my options from last time - noticeably I have to reselect diagonal streets every time I run it. The other options seem like they are correct so within the installer I now deselect the RRW mod and ensure that maxis default textures are selected as the railway texture. I run the installation, it tells me everythings fine and done, then I start the game and I still have Real Railways, I try to relay the track and it still relays as real railway - Ive repeated this process at least 10 times now and it wont remove. What am I doing wrong? The Nam installer is located on my desktop in an unzipped folder. When running the installer the directory it installs to is the default plugins/Network Addon Mod folder.

Cant zone certain squares but can still plop on them, whats going on?
nonessentialnoodle replied to nonessentialnoodle's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I appear to have fixed it, although I dont understand how. By demolishing all the surrounding buildings and then building an airport then demolishing the airport I am able to zone the tiles again. I guess this is somehow related to the fact that the area was previously an airport. But seeing as the area is in the middle of my Downtown i dont think I can afford to demolish it all! I'll have to look on the STEX for a small airport lot and see if that has the same effect. Thanks for the help guys. -

Have tried de-zoning and doesnt help, its the same with all zone types, they just show up empty not red or anything. My instinct is that its related to the on/off ramps but then how come I can still place plops in it? Perhaps ill try demolishing the junctions and see if it still happens. Edit: Nope tried demolishing everything surrounding the area and it still has the same problem. Any other ideas or insight? -

Ive got a small piece of land in my downtown which I cant seem to zone. Any thoughts as to why? Is this a bug with any solution? I know your probably thinking its to do with the highway infrastructure, but as the second picture shows I can still place things on the blank spaces, just cant zone them. So whats going on? Any thoughts? Thanks! -
It is indeed the second one, I searched for every combination of highway and signs so dont know how i missed it but well done, thanks!

Hi guys, i'm trying to find a specific highway sign pack, quite an old one i think but still my favourite. It consisted of several blue and green signs on a 1x1 lot that when placed next to the road hung over slightly. Off the top of my head some of the signs read destinations including 'Industrial District' 'City North' 'City Hall' 'Airport' etc I know most signs probably say that so may not be much help worth asking. I also managed to find some old screenshots in my documents folder which happen to have the signs in but from a far off zoom so theyre hard to make out, hopefully someone might recognise them? If anybody has a clue what I'm talking about and can give me the link to where the file has gone or even the name of the file it would be well appreciated! Thanks!

Looking through these just reminds me how much potential this game originally had and why i was so excited about it. I didnt realise all the 'patches' of new intersections and missing features they talked about coming after release would cost a fortune. Or that many key features like the multiple lane feature or cloud and sky system would never materialise. What a shame

Personally i think this is a joke, a city cant exist on just roads! When would that ever happen in real life! How can they call it 'cities' and not include half the elements that make up a city ¬_¬. Perhaps 'Small TownsXL wouldve been a more appropriate name. If i had realised all this content was missing i would not have bought it!! -
