I can't find the topic I originally started on this problem, but I don't think I explained my situation properly, so I'm gonna try again. I already have my download folder organized as to originator\author\etc. My problem is when I try to download a new file. I click on all the "agree & download" buttons, and the last thing I get is a new tab by something called "adfly." it says my download will start in 5 . . . 4 . . .3 . . . etc. and when it does start, it is always to install\run a set-up file. If I run the setup it is for some kind of download manager. I installed it the first time it came up, but now every time I try to download a file it wants to install this download manager again. I can't find anything in my control panel to delete\remove adfly. I just want to get back to the point where I could right-click on the download button and so a save as. Any ideas?? Thanks . . .

I have been lately downloading (or trying to!!) without being logged in. I'll have to try to remember to always log in first if I want to download a file. I'll see if that helps. Thanks . . .

I couldn't find a thread on this topic so I'm starting one. Is there any way to download a file WITHOUT going thru that silly download manager. Every time I try to download it wants to install the manager first (I did that the first time I used it). And now my Norton is telling me it is a suspect file and deletes it. I have more faith in Norton than in this dl manager. Any suggestions?? Thanks

Cool!! I like it and I will use it. I give it a 4 out of 5!! I absolutely HATE dependencies!! Even 1 or 2 is too much for me. I have seen some very beautiful lots that I would dearly love to have in my cities, but have not dl'd them because they have 10 or 12 or more dependecies. I have seen 3 different people use the same dependency and call it 3 different names.

I am getting an error message that says something like: plugin pack 309819133 is missing on your system . . . I had not played SC4 in about a week. At that time everything was fine (no error message). In the interveneing week I DID NOT add or delete any SC files. What gives? How can I locate this particular file as a search on the number returns nothing? thanks

Sam: I'll give it a try . . . thanks

Have NOT been able to locate HKSAS Prop Pack . . . I spent 30 minutes searching 2 sites and can't find it. I HATE DEPENDENCIES!!!!! I would like to use this file but will not even attempt to until I can locate all the dependency files. I would rather download a single 10 meg file than a 2 meg file that has even 1 dependency.

I like it. It is nice and neat and clean. Not everybody likes to have a yard\property that looks like a junk yard or a perpetual garage sale. I have down-loaded all 3 of this guy's work. But then I'm a guy who has been playing SC since the DOS version in the late 80's, and recommends newbies get the Prima books and read them!

SimCity 4: Rush Hour: Prima's Official Strategy Guide
1973tr6 replied to jamezz_2005's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
At the risk of being flamed as a neanderthal . . . I HIGHLY recommend the Prima guides. If you have Rush Hour, get the version for it. I have both and have actually READ both from cover to cover. I tend to think that MOST people do not spend time 24/7 on this site asking questions or spend hours and hours and hours browsing trying to find answers. If you are actually playing the game and need a quick answer to a question about the basic, stock Maxis game elements, the Prima guides are INDISENSABLE. Sure there a some typos. But if you look hard enough you can find typos in the Encyclopedia Britannica or the Bible. That doesn't mean those books are trash. There are those on this site who make a profession out of disseminating advice, and they will tell you that the Prima guides are only good for toilet paper. They are wrong. Get the Prima guide. You can find them on eBay or at amazon dot com. Or maybe some trixie winner has one he would be glad to get rid of. I bet you could make good use of it. -
I do hope the airline made arrangements to get this woman to her destination. Next tiem she should use a heavy dose of some perfume instead.

Since you have only 161 resident sims, I'd destroy the city and start all over with a brand new map and NO modds. Add in the NAM and some of the reporting extras, but avoid drastic game-changers for a while. You can always add in modds and the eye candy stuff as you go and get better at playing. I've had best success using windmills for power, plopping a seaport (coastline required), zoning some dirty industry, a little bit of low $ commercial, and a whole bunch of low $ residential. Put a small grade school and small clinic in the middle of your res area. Put bus stops on every corner in res & ind areas. Don't put in fire or police until your sims ask for them, and even then think about it for a few "months." Put in a water pump somewhere in your com area, but away from both ind & res., and run pipes to everything. Don't zone $$ or $$$ until your city has reached 20k or more. Use streets (gray color) for connecting all your zones, and roads (black\asphalt) for a connection to 1 or more of your nearest neighbors. Play one city for a year or two and then go to a neighbor and start another city there (region play), it helps demand. I've been holding off on rail, as it is a heck of an expense for the benefit. Freight from your ind area can go out by truck. Keep an eye on your RCI demand indicator and add zones and infrastructure as required. Don't over-zone. Add in fewer lots than you think you need. You can always add in more lots if the demand stays high for several more months, but its a lot harder and more $$ to removce zoning if you have added too much. I've been able to grow cities of 100,00 fairly quickly this way. If you do some searching in the forums & omnibus you should be able to find tons of info about playing strategy. Welcome to ST and have fun!!

Good lookin' waterfront pieces!! Benches & lamp-posts - definitely. Maybe flowers in planters too. But I don't think trees would look too good. Plus, if they are used in coastal areas, the trees would have to be salt-water tolerant.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day . . . Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Tie with . . . You have not converted a man because you have silenced him.

Not only is this an important day to me because I am a veteran, but it is also my birthday. Thanks to all of you who have expressed appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices of veterans. And thanks to those of you who wish us a happy birthday too.

Works for me . . . click and drag your zone . . . DO NOT LET GO OF THE MOUSE BUTTON . . . press the "Ctrl" or "Alt" key and watch for a change in the direction of the zone arrows or plot size. THEN let go of the mouse button.

It has been my personal experience (15+ years as a network support technician\administrator) that people tend to stick to (religiiously - lol) the brand they first used, wether it be MS Word\Excel, Lotus, Mac, Linux, Windows, or whatever. That being said I must add that I have, as required by my job, installed\used many non-MS products as well as most MS products. All in all, I much prefer the MS products. I have used Lotus, Wordstar, Wordperfect, Famework, Netscape, AIX, and various Apple\Mac products. Most of them sucked dead bunnes when compared next to MS products. I am now using IE 7. I like the tabs OK, and more since I found out how t force a new window to open and focus in the new tab. I have no problems with having to press "Alt" to get the menu bar ro appear\disappear. Not havng it there all the time gives me a little bit more screen real estate. But then that's just my opinion . . . your mileage may vary.
