Finalizing nightlights and fine texture details, I had to get rid of the solar panels, it was causing some weird texture ids bugs (inclusive on the duplex house), and increasing the render time more than 3 minutes. I guess it was something to do with Final Gather calculations interactions with the solar panel model.

Thanks, CorineMarie!! To respond to your post, I will do them in segments... First, as for the environment sites you mentioned, I took a look at them, and have one question - those links lead to more complicated mods, is there a one-in-all link for each (terrain, beach, etc.) or would I have to download each mod individually? Second, I will most certainly look into the Age Degredation!! Also, with the "player vs. painter" situation, I am like you - I figure I am a mixture of the two titles. Is there anything else I might want or need to download before I dive into the game? I do remember that there were a TON of downloads on sc4pac, though I haven't looked at them in great detail just yet. I am so excited, but I want to make sure the game and it's downloads are all taken care of before I dive in!! I really appreciate your help - but not just yours, for everyone who has provided guidance, information and patience!

By chance, have you used the Drawpaths cheat to look at the paths. When I tried the piece, the avenue connection wasn't always stable (paths and textures). Perhaps it's not even meant be supported at this time... Clicking around with the RHW tool helped a bit. Not sure if there's a 'trick' to using this piece or not... Road connections seem pretty stable, though... While things may not seem perfect, traffic still is able to traverse the connections...

Also I had to redraw all of my one way roundabouts. Visually they were always there but no traffic could pass through them. Running NAM 50 beta so I know there will be some issues. I'm just putting this info out to the team. Thanks

Hello, I came across a bug with the elevated RHW intersection pieces. Somehow when is use the new mis 2 to 4 ramps I end up with no traffic through the intersection. I ran three to four different test. uploading two for examples. only rectangle intersections allow traffic.

T480 or A485. $200 should suffice. I wish I can recommend newer laptops, like the Asus V16 and K16. The problem is, RAM prices. It's still happening. I wish it should stop. But, we can't afford it right now. So, used laptops are the best options.

Take a peek here. I use the radical one from this. That means under non-stressed load all Maxis Power Plants will last 4,702 years iirc. Now for other CC Power Plants I just set them to zero degradation so I don't ever have to rebuild. (Eventually I'll make an all zeroes one for Paeng's.) Yep. You are on the same page. Playing neighboring city tiles (and their neighbors too) and back and forth to your original city tiles lets the demand info propagate back and forth and it helps a lot. As a Player you zone and grown all your R, C, and I zones and you manage the budget so you don't go bankrupt. A city Painter tweaks in billions in city funds and plops everything for a beautiful visual affect. They will then Growify those Lots so they are much less likely to abandon. Neither approach is right or wrong. It's a matter of style. I'm closer to a player, but I have specific ways I cheat. There's the aforementioned power plant non-rebuild policy and I set my game so my Ag pays 5x what the taxes would otherwise be (without them getting the least bit upset). Since I play natural growth with a bunch of rural development, this allows me to generate enough funds for all I need without having to build a huge population. From there I do balance my budget as I play, but that 5x is a huge cheat in the eyes of a purist.

Next model that I`m working on. I haven`t finished the model, it`s still pending the final detailing, but I already started testing the polycarbonate material that I plan to use on the brisè (sort of), kind of liked the result. The previous project, the duplex house, its already finished. I`m too lazy to finish the final steps of the lot editing, but I plan to post it on this weekend maybe.

Since the shutdown, I've actually spent a large amount of time playing Tropico, but I've finally come around SimCity 4 again and I'm remodeling an old park: I might have to restart a number of poxed cities in my region, unfortunately. That has really brought me down, but at least there's a pleasantness in building these lovely curved entrances.

@JulianMIA your work has really caught my attention. Great stuff! The Hybrid Railway is getting a major update at the moment with new T3d Catenary wires and extra functionality. Also, the updated HRW will once again have dedicated textures. This is to differentiate between the HRW from the RRW. I acknowledge that it is a bit back a forth with the reasoning of making the HRW base on RRW textures with the hope of the HRW being able to be modded faster. With the T3d wires and other enhancements I decided that dedicated HRW textures where needed going forward. There is still a bit to do with the updated HRW and I would invite yourself and others to suggest enhancements going forward... -eggman121 (NAM Team Member)

I just play the game. I don't really think about all this stuff. I'm having fun haha Yes the easy part is done- now it's mountaineering time. I've become pretty experienced with a lot of past projects by now but I'm sure it will throw a few curve balls for me. The routing- I want it to get to the edge of my region and connect to SimNation. I have a freeway route already- not sure if the rail lines will parallel it much however.

There is also a Started a petition for EA to release SimCity 4 source code topic on r/SimCity that attracted the attention of a former Maxis artist who worked on SC4 (u/vertexnormal). They mention in the topic that they have copies of all the art source material (and possibly pre-release builds mentioned in another topic), but didn't grab the code and are not sure if EA still has copies. There is also a comment on the building/bridge creation which is a fun read. While I know there is no chance of those pre-release builds ending up in public, especially since someone publicly admitted to possibly having them. IMO that would be a close second to the actual source code in terms of the number of things that could be discovered. I expect some of those internal builds may have things like: Ingred and all the related editors active with the proper file layout. Full Windows debug symbols (and perhaps even a full debug build, which would limit compiler magic). Plus a ton of other possibilities depending on the specific build, like getting a build with the original intended traffic simulator before they altered it to run on low-spec machines.

I was messing around with making the best HRW tunnel I could make using monorail. Then I was looking at old photos from my 2018 city and I had an idea to dig out the old Bullet Train mod and after a couple of hours of trying things out I figured out how to make a fully functioning AND aesthetically pleasing HRW tunnel. (Actually I am not sure it's HRW, possibly just HSR trains can pass through, have to test it out more). I was kind of amazed that this worked so well and although not necessarily workable for tight-space tunnels as it takes a bit of space to integrate L0 trackage, it would work if you had to tunnel under a mountain or half of Manhattan and the east river... And I also had not seen this particular HSR train in quite a while, I forgot how nice it was. The old picture that gave me the idea to try this out. I had always wanted to see a bullet train come screaming out of this tunnel but it never happened. I might get there now though.

@Fargo Looking good so far! I think you're almost done with the windows/blinds. The reflections, transparency, and window tint seem fine to me for now. But I couldn't ignore how bright your blinds seem. So after making a few adjustments in Photoshop, I think if you reduce the brightness of the blinds by 23%, you get a more realistic feel. I hope you can ignore the attempt at overlaying 2 different sized versions . Anyway here's the result: (Day only)

I finished this park that I had started quite a while ago. I'm finding that parks are one of the things that help you preserve a view corridor in a dense city to an area you particularly want to be able to see.

The new mod that allows you to place props directly on the network is just amazing. Satisfaction increaser. Fun amplifier. Force multiplier. I had been wanting to get the GLR crossing of passenger rail more aesthetically pleasing and in line with my other rails. I know at this time there is no way to make the EL cross true hybrid railway tracks but in this case these tracks carry only passenger rail although I try to create as close to a 100% hybrid network as is possible. Once I hunted down the offending track textures and got those in line, I was still left with something less than pleasing. Using the prop placement mod though, I was able to add the catenary wires as eye candy along with a looks-like-it-belongs-there center support - the one from the El-Rail over road plugin. What a difference this makes. The last part of this project is to try to figure out if it's possible to get rid of the mis-matched support on the right or at least change it use a different, more aesthetically matched prop. BTW, it is so good to have things up and running, I know multiple people had to work hard to make this happen and I don't know exactly who to name but definitely my thanks. I found that without the ability to show and talk about what I am working on and see what amazing things everyone else is creating and building, the fun of this is just a little diminished. Reminds us to take nothing for granted.

The release of the original Cities: Skylines in 2015 ended up wounding SC4's popularity pretty substantially, simply because C:S was the first city-sim since SC4 to not be a complete disaster at launch. 10 years ago, this would have been a straightforward question to answer. As far as 2026 goes, however, it's more complicated. C:S itself is now almost 11 years old. Its sequel is now nearing 3 years, and unlike the original, C:S2 had a disastrous launch and a number of scandals since, ultimately leading to Paradox cutting ties with developer Colossal Order. That whole franchise lost a lot of the goodwill that had been showered upon it. Meanwhile, we're still here discussing SC4. The SC4 forum post stats @Cyclone Boom shared for ST look about like those of SC4 Devotion's forums did 10 years ago. Traditional forums in and of themselves have undergone a decline in past decade, with Reddit, Discord, and social media all taking a substantial bite out of their activity, regardless of topic. While accordingly, ST post stats may not be quite as accurate a barometer of SC4 popularity and community health as they may have once been, it's worth noting that the monthly SC4 forum posts at are fairly consistently hovering around that 775 posts per month mark, with occasional peaks and valleys, and the STEX upload stats are remaining fairly consistent as well. That's still a pretty solid indication that SC4 isn't getting any less popular (or more dead). The main SC4 subreddit, /r/simcity4, has generally been trending upward with its stats, and there's been perhaps more mainstream gaming media coverage of SC4 in the past couple years, because of the DLL mod advancements. SC4 survived getting "wounded" by C:S's launch, and while it's fairly obvious it's not going to get back to mid-00s "Golden Era" levels of activity without something truly miraculous happening, the overall trend seems to be that the current activity levels are being sustained at minimum, and possibly inching slightly upward. -Tarkus

A couple of graphs... Note: Data is filtered to all the main SimCity 4 STEX categories (not other games or club files). Note: Data is filtered to all the SimCity 4 forum categories (both the Players and Builders forums combined). The data here shows a regular number of STEX files uploaded (943 files at 38 per month). The SC4 forums maintain a steady amount of activity (19,382 posts at 775 per month, which equates to 26 per day). Although there will always be natural fluctuations between different years, there is no significant downtrend. There was a bit of a dip in May-June last year, but countering this we saw a massive quantity of SC4 posts in Jan-Feb of 2025. I think it's safe to say SC4 remains alive and well. Absolutely, the sole reason is due to the global community we are, which keeps the game's heartbeat strong. Long may it continue!
