5 pointsThanks everyone - I ended up leaving the building a bit generic. I do like banners and whatnot on the front of some buildings, but sometimes they become too distinctive or specific; I just ended up putting a little bas relief deco lettering at the top of the building front. Here's a little monstrosity I based off a few pics in my research "swipe" file. I think the next pack will be a mix of older style buildings with newer ones...hopefully I can get around to a release soon...

4 pointsSimCity Megacity Has Over 100 Million People Living In It Peter Richie's SimCity 4 project, called (what else) Megacity One, is like something out of a science-fiction story. Using 81 large city tiles, 26,542km of roads, 8,626km of subway lines and 324 hydrogen power plants, he has managed to create a single sprawling metropolis of 107,658,254 people. For reference, the largest urban centre in the real world, Tokyo-Yokohama, has "only" 37 million residents. If you've ever been to Tokyo, and noticed how from many vantage points the city never visibly ends, imagine one three times larger. Like many larger cities in the world that have spread so far they've overrun other big settlements, Megacity One actually comprises multiple city centres. The four here have things like airports placed in between, to minimise pollution and maximise density. Some other fun facts: there are 512 water pumps, 486 waste management centres, over 2000 schools, 81 universities and 162 colleges. The best fact, though, is that he did it all without the use of mods. It's 100% urban planning and SimCity 4. If you want to read about the challenges of keeping the entire thing running, Richie's interview with Motherboard is good reading. This 107 Million Person 'SimCity' Region Is a Portrait of Our Megacity Future When you've got one Earth and an unending boom in population growth, the gravitational pull of …Read on motherboard.vice.com

3 pointsThat airport looks really good! Airports are such a huge undertaking, good work I've been re-lotting some of simgoober's homes. Here's a couple lots I did to get a late 70's styled neighborhood.

3 pointsRoger51- Thank you so much buddy. T Wrecks- Lol, Thank you buddy. cmdp123789- Lol!!!! Thank you buddy, I would say I am sexy. ) SimCoug- Thank you, I have not thought about having a split version for the building. Borgmästarjojje- Thank you!!! mrsmartman- Thank you!!! Jim14409- Thank you!!! Vlasky- Thank you buddy!!! Darknono35- Thank you, please come back NYBT has gotting weak again. It reminds me of the year where batting for NYBT was slow. Seraf- Thank you for the song Seraf and I 'm happy to know you like the ornaments on the top of the buildings. 9gruntsand1hammer- Thank you!!! Toothless Stitch- Thank you!!! 2639 & 2641 Jerome Avenue Here's an update to the building, I have the roof texture. Once you have added the roof texture the building starts to look better. I still have more to work on the building, I think it's like eight to ten things to do. Thumbs up and comment if you like it.

2 pointsWe've already proven the technical impossibility involving the same transit type on both decks going in the same direction. If it can happen with one transit type, it can happen with every transit type. Since Elevated Rail has Rail paths, something I overlooked, you'd have a situation where you could end up with freight trains riding on top of Elevated Rail, and this is seen as an undesirable feature by a number of players. There've been plenty of technical impossibilities already that have forced us to rethink or even condemn a number of plans (same-direction DDRHWs, rail-based DDRHW, the size of the Controller correlating to the chances of a crash thereby reducing the chance of an RHW-12S and RHW-10C ever being added), and in worse cases, even forced us to undo certain NAM features. Unless we have the source code or can come up with something that's revolutionary and still legal, this is something we're gonna have to accept because we have no way of fixing them.

2 pointsI know that probably thats based on an American commercial stripe.. but for some reason it reminds of some commercial areas in London's outskirts.. LOL please dont kill me!! Ontario or UK? I've been to neither but I find it interesting that they have similairities to the picture. @ROFLyoshi, that street layout is really impressive! I think it's cool how the rail line snakes through too. Here's a small neighborhood I made today.

2 pointsTime for me to contribute something then Here's the start of Russell Street Police Headquarters (now known as "Concept Blue" ). At the moment its about 6x2. I don't think I'll make any more of the complex than this. This building is really quite difficult, it requires a lot of precision. Let me know what you think so far Roger - thanks again, these are very helpful A_ - I think the river pieces are about 20 tiles wide Edit: Correction, they are only 10 tiles wide Odainsaker - I love the former Melbourne Magistrates Court (now the RMIT administration building), might be another one to add to the list Andrey - thanks for the picture! Thanks for nice comments everyone else

1 pointIt's 2018 and the city of Oakland, CA is ready for a new beginning. Following years of indecision, political strive, and corporate greed, a decision has at long last been made. The Oakland Athletics baseball team will remain in town along with a new ballpark to call home. The decision to rebuild will serve as a catalyst for redevelopment in the southern section of Oakland. But in the long history of redevelopment in American cities, there are countless failures for every triumph. The decisions regarding what will be built in this area--including housing, employment centers, public facilities, and the new stadium itself--will impact Oakland for generations to come, for better or for worse. This City Journal will tell one permutation of this story. Author's Note: this CJ will not strive to show the existing environment of southern Oakland in accurate detail. Not only is this simply not the purpose of the CJ, but this area is a dull, desolate place not worth anyone's time to accuracy depict using the limited tools SC4 possess. This journal will focus on the redevelopment within the area of the Oakland Coliseum complex. Images will include what I have created representing southern Oakland mostly using vanilla features. Don't sweat it--the good stuff will be richly diverse. Project Scope The Oakland Coliseum Complex is a massive expanse of land in southern Oakland. The complex includes the Coliseum, and Oracle Arena, and a large surface parking facility. The area is served by the Nimitz Freeway (I-880), Amtrak Capitol Corridor, and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the latter also serving the nearby Oakland Airport. The surrounding neighborhood includes mostly low-density housing, industrial sites, and commercial areas primarily serving the Oakland Airport. The area is situated near Oakland's boarder with San Leandro to the south. To the east lies San Leandro Bay, a sub-body of the San Francisco Bay. Mostly overrun by industrial sites, the natural environment includes San Leandro and Lion creeks and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline. The opportunity for something grand presents itself--as it does for a boondoggle of epic proportions. How will it unfold? We shall see. Up Next... the Plan Unveiled!

1 pointDo you mean Maxis civic buildings? If so, the Prima Guide has many tables with all that info. If not, then there's probably no single source because there are so many original buildings made by so many different modders. I think there are properties for those effects in each lot. You can read the properties with a software tool.
-
1 pointI'm always happy to see an update on this thread. The white around the top of the building looks almost too 'white' from that render pic, but textures are sometimes hard to judge until you see an in-game pic. I'm looking forward to seeing this pack released

1 pointPruitt Igoe Digital Reproduction 180814 from tnpf on Vimeo. Hi, I use simcity as a tool for reconstructing existing or hypothetical urban/ architectural typologies. Above is a progress update of my current reconstruction of the infamous Pruitt Igoe housing development that was demolished in 1972. in St Louis. It utilizes a number of mods, one being project orion. My intention for the project is to recreate its demolition as a live stream.

1 pointI will give you this: adding computers to a car does make it more difficult to keep maintained when it gets old since the proprietary nature of the system means that there will be more modes of failure that you cannot jerry rig your own fix for. Not to mention that mechanics and car people are all of course mechanically inclined but not all of them are computer people... the latter group will be shut out of tinkering with newer cars since going forward you will have to be adept in both disciplines to maintain an old car yourself. But from a practical consumer standpoint (not from a car enthusiast standpoint), there are solid benefits to having the computer there since it enables the car to do things (like have a CVT, or advanced traction) which aren't possible otherwise. And not only that, but the reality is that the much-talked about "millennial generation" is interested in different things when it comes to buying a car than previous generations were. Your average 20-something these days doesn't care how many horses are under the hood or how fast it can go from zero to 60. The stuff that makes a car worth showing off to your friends now for the average person isn't performance, it's electronic bells and whistles. People want cars that can sync with their iPods, take phone calls via bluetooth, pull up Pandora, have a built in GPS that gives them directions, etc. In the 21st century people are starting to look at cars as electronic gadgets, and automakers must embrace this or they will not be able to continue selling them. Now, some of that stuff does seem silly to me, but then I know my opinions and desires are decidedly non-mainstream. Meanwhile, cars of today are still more reliable than cars from the 60s and 70s. Note how you fairly commonly see cars in use well past 100k miles, even past 200k. Used to be that 100k was the cars logical life expectancy and that was pretty much it. As for the idea of a Chevette... c'mon. Some foreign cars from the 80s are exceptionally reliable and many are still on the road (particularly Volvos), but American cars from the 80s were awful.

1 pointI apologise if I sound harsh but I needed to be sure that you understood why it isn't possible; you'd be actually surprised how many times people virulently request things from the NAM Team despite being already told why their idea isn't workable. Aside from real life, we're already busy with other projects, and being asked to produce something that isn't easy to make is a pretty tall order from a group that essentially does this kind of thing off of free time.

1 pointI know; the thing is that combining two different rail-type networks might not work as intended, and could decrease capacity of the two networks being combined overall. That's not practical by NAM standards, and we're not in the department for making things that don't work. Let me explain it like this: If you managed to combine Rail with Elevated Rail (Elevated Rail over Rail) and assuming we're using Simulator Medium (capacity of both Elevated Rail and Rail have a capacity of 16K), it's possible that merging both networks into one tile would result in the combined network still having a capacity of 16K, and not the 32K that one would expect. There is a trick to boost capacity by 25%, but even then, 20K is still far from 32K. Network capacities don't stack; they're a fixed value, even if you combined two different networks together. It's basically 1+1=1.

1 pointJust started messing around with SC4 again. Nothing groundbreaking but here my region connection.
-
1 pointYour best bet is Wineskin, otherwise running under Windows XP in either Parallels or VMWare. I've posted a fair amount of information in the various threads in this subforum; is a good place to start. I've been successful at getting SC4 to run quite well under Wineskin. The only real drawbacks I've found are that I can't run in hardware mode (so no HD textures/terrain mods/etc.) and for whatever reason work. On the other hand, with various winetricks I've been able to get most Maxis and community authored utility apps to work, including DAMN, ExtraCheats.dll, Reader, Lot Editor, DatPacker, etc.

1 pointI'm liking it I almost sensed a bit of symmetry in there, but it didn't actually turn out to be symmetric. Keep up the good work, though!

1 pointOnly thing is, 228 won't be expanding. The overpass was half completed, then abandoned (due to community opposition up north.)

1 pointI've been away for a while. What a pleasant surprise to see that you have returned - and with such a great BAT, too! I agree that the lighting on the chimney is too bright - if you don't get it right, my opinion is that no light at all would be a better choice for the chimney than an excessively bright light. After all, the crown and the building sides are already lit with flood lights, so the overall look is still pretty impressive. Concerning the day view, you have done a tremendous job with gmax! The wall textures look superb, and the roof textures are very good as well. Maybe some dirt/variation on the roof textures would further enhance the look, but that's not a biggie. As with the Tudor buildings, the one thing that could yield the most notable improvement IMO is the window texture. Some of the windows look good, but others appear to be black holes. This also has the disadvantage that the window frames become invisible. The result is that important detail is lost. If you look at Jason's Knoll Building that you plopped right next to your BAT, you'll see that the windows appear to be much more lively there. Now this is a 3dsmax building, BUT: as far as I know, back in the time this BAT was made, Jason didn't yet use actually reflecting windows and a ground plane to achieve the look that you see. AFAIR, the windows are simply a texture - i.e. they are nothing exclusive to 3dsmax, but something you could easily copy with gmax. IIRC, the basis for the window texture is even a standard Maxis texture that should come with the BAT package for gmax.

1 pointI've seen some Houston area stacks posted on here but so far nobody has mentioned to wacky interchange of the Westpark Tollway and Beltway 8 on the westside of Houston. In my opinion it is the oddest interchange in the area. Features under-grade clover ramps......yikes.

1 pointI just ignore problems with lag. This is a stochastic simulation and not really a "snappy" game. As you get more and more objects into the simulation the program approaches the knee of an exponential hyperbola which will cause nearly infinite lag no matter how fast a system may be. It all depends on the universe of discourse which includes trivia such as trees. The more, the slower; until CPU time goes to 100% and the simulation loop cannot be completed in a reasonable time. Eventually the simulation will appear to have stopped, but in fact will continue to eat the CPU. Worrying about frame rate in this program is a mug's game. We are not running WoW.

1 pointWell, first of all, understand that I haven't used windows since Vista was announced and it wouldn't fit on my old machine. I am on Linux. Now, the thing you click on your desktop is called a shortcut or link. It has properties, and if you right click on it and choose properties, one of the properties is a text-box with a label of Target. This is, in fact, the command line that the operating system uses to launch your game. As delivered, this will have only the complete file path of the game's executable, enclosed in quotes because it has spaces in it. Basically it is a console command. If you name a program in a console command it becomes a command. Almost every program ever written has command-line options. To add options to the command line, simply move the mouse after the final quote, type one space, then the option. In this case I suggested turning off the audio to see if that is your problem. This option is -audio:off Here is my command line, which is not terribly different from a windows one, and the options are the same. "C:/Program Files (x86)/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software -f -CPUcount:1 Which says to my system: Execute the program in quotes, turn off the silly movie, set up for my 1080p monitor, run with software rendering, full screen, and only use one of my cores, please. The colours are for illustration only. If you are interested in this level of detail here is the complete list of options.

1 pointwhy dont you just say when you click on residential or commercial etc & click on it in your city region it automatically zones the size limit of whatever you're zoning therefore having a times 3 would triple the size extent of your automatic click mode when you zone that is unless you manually drag your zones to the size area you want. SO why cant you just say that Tropod?
