SimCity 3000 Unlimited Recreations

Today, I have a special update in store - some recreations from across the globe in SimCity 3000 Unlimited. Before diving deep into SimCity 4, I played this great old game quite extensively - it was one of my all time favorites back in the day. After finally finding my long lost disc a while back, I was inspired to fire it up and give it one more go.

To make these pictures, I mainly used a combination of buildings from the game's American, European, and Asian tilesets, a decent number of the game's default and addon Landmarks, and whatever custom made content I could manage to find online. The building selection was still incredibly limiting - so I had to make the most with whatever I could get my hands on. For SC3KU, there's virtually no modding/customization options whatsoever, so I added some light photoshopping effects to finish off the scenes.

I hope you'll enjoy this little blast from the past *:)

OK, I didn't expected this, and it's obvious how harder it has to have been. Really impressive!

Whoa indeed.*:thumb: ( I realized, looking at those great picture, that I can't remember playing SC3000. My memory is hazy but I do remember playing with a version of SimCity that had those rotund arcologies (in fact that's all I visually remember from that version -- ah, Google is my friend : after the black & white version (which I played), there was SimCity 2000 -- that's the one. And then came SC4 and my companion discovered custom content for me and  I was mega-addicted all over again... )

Even in SC3K you still make amazing cities with beautiful detail. You've even inspired me with my creation I am slowly working on.

A trip down memory lane and then some.

I remember spamming the parks like crazy to get the skyscrapers. Because once upon a time all you needed was astronomical desirability to get the skyscrapers! I once had a mega commercial skyscraper in a small town because of those crazy desirability rules.

SC3K had its moments ( I like one city challenge at SimNation (with 4 neighbours you can make deals) in comparison to SC4's region logic ) but isometric graphics are meh when you see trimetric SC4 ones.

Still a very nice compilation.

@matias93 Thank you for the nice words! *:)

@Scaley McSlither *:thumb:

@tariely Thanks for the comment! I got started off with the SimCity series with SC3KU back in 2000 or 2001, so unfortunately I never really got a chance to really try out the original SimCity or SC2K - maybe I'll have to try them out one of these days, those arcologies look pretty cool *:)

@EvansRE4 Thanks for the nice comment, I'm glad I've inspired you *:)

@RobertLM78 Thanks, glad you enjoyed the entry *:)

@Androgeos Gotta love the SC3KU soundtrack, it's a true classic *:thumb:

@Krasner Thank you for the kind words *:)

@The British Sausage Yeah, due to the game's zoning rules funny stuff like that could always happen - I remember making some pretty crazy looking cities/towns back in the day *:P Looking back I think it only added to the games charm *:D Thanks for the comment!

@mosonče As you mentioned, SC3KU did have a few shortcomings - but a lot of its cool/unique features like the art style, soundtrack, neighbor deals, scenarios, and others helped make up for it and still makes it stand out today. Thanks for the comment!

@cydonianmystery Thanks for the nice words, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, unfortunately there hasn't been many SC3K related CJs or entries done over the years - so I wanted to give this fun old game some love with this update *:)

@sejr99999 Thank you very much for the comment! It took a lot of custom content and practice, but there's definitely alot of potential with the game *:)

Wow! Amazing work- you're now officially the SimCity recreation god.

All of those SC3KU pics takes me back to the days when I would play and BAT (or was it BAP in SC3k?) back when I was working on my NYC creation in it.

What a trip down memory lane. I remember playing SC3000, but I don't remember it looking anywhere near as good as your pictures. *:lol: You really know how to get the most splendid visual impacts out of these old games. *:thumb:

I have played SimCity 3000 Unlimited. I loved that game, even if the buildings and custom content were so limited. Even with the landmarks added I have NEVER seen anything anywhere as good as this. HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?

Are you kidding me, this is just SC4 with some low-fi filter applied in photoshop, right?! *:lol:

What's next, around the world in sc200?! *:ohyes:

Fantastic set of pictures, excellent really! *:thumb:

@Hanson784 Thanks for the comment - glad to hear my pics brought back some memories *:) I remember attempting to recreate New York a number of times over the years in SC3000 myself, but I never seemed to get really far - the lack of custom buildings usually seemed to be the main issue. Trying to do Lower Manhattan's grid in SC3000 also wasn't helping either.. *:P The game's BAP tool was hours of fun but I'm not sure if I used it that seriously way back in the day - I wish I took your route though and made a bunch of the buildings myself, that would have definitely saved some headaches!

@TekindusT *:thumb:

@mattb325 Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the update! *:)

@Hellken Thank you! Although SC3000 has lots of limitations, with clever use of the game's buildings and the right mix of custom content there's a lot of potential *:)

@vortext Hmmm.. SC2000, now you're giving me some ideas *:P Appreciate the the nice words!

Absolutely amazing! Korver does it again and this time with even less to work with. 3000 was my whole early childhood so to see it like this brings back many memories. Korver you have one of the only CJ's I look forward to viewing each time, love it. (Not that there are not other great ones too!) *:D
