One of the United States' oldest and most historic cities, Boston was initially founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England. Over the years, the city became the capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and has played a role in a number of key events throughout American history. During the 1800s, the city grew into an important industrial and railroad hub - and more recently, a center of education, banking, and financial services.

On our way to Boston, we'll be traveling through some of the region's stunning landscapes. Each autumn in New England brings dramatic, beautiful changes to the area's foliage.

We've arrived in Boston - and our first sight is the famed Old State House. Built in 1713, it's one of the city's oldest buildings - and has served as a seat of colony government, state government, a city hall, and more recently - a museum dedicated to the city's history.

Another one of Boston's most iconic buildings is the Old North Church - built in 1723, it's the city's oldest surviving church and is located in the city's historic North End district.

The architecture of Boston is noted for its unique combination of old and new. Here we see a nighttime view of historic Faneuil Hall - a popular marketplace for nearly 300 years - alongside the 1960's brutalist Boston City Hall.

A look at the nearby Boston Custom House, rising high above Faneuil Hall.

Located near Kenmore Square is iconic Fenway Park - MLB's oldest stadium has been home to the Boston Red Sox since 1912.

Another look at downtown Boston with a view of the city's famous waterfront. In the middle of the scene, we catch a glimpse of the "Big Dig" (officially known as the Central Artery/Tunnel Project) - at a cost of over $20 billion and taking nearly 16 years to complete, this mega project was designed to bring much needed relief to the city's ongoing congestion problems, but so far the results have been mixed.

A few final overviews of central Boston and Copley Square with two of the city's most notable skyscrapers in view - the John Hancock Tower and the Prudential Tower.

Keep this up and we're going to be demanding a tutorial in city speed-building! Boston looks so cool - I definitely want to visit one day and have no doubt that you've done it justice. I love seeing your updates!

@Scaley McSlither Thanks for the comment! *:thumb: Maybe I'll have to, but to be fair I've been working on this entry for a while now *:P Glad you enjoyed the update!

How do you decide which part of the world to work on next? I'm especially intrigued because I imagine much of the limitation comes from which custom content based on real locations is available to build authentic scenes using 90% custom game content, 5% self-made content and 5% subtle photoediting for the remaining visual effects.

Thanks for the comment @Lucario Boricua!

I just sorta go wherever inspiration leads me to and what I'm interested in during the moment.. so it's sorta tough to describe *:P. Right now it's a lot of urban updates, maybe some historical ones later on too, but in a month or two I might be working on something completely different, so it depends.

Woa the last mosaic ! It's not enough to build a city, you must have the right eye for what pictures to take, which angle, the composition.. That one is splendid. (And the night pict just before is stunning.)

The game's grid sure took a beating in the Fenway Park picture. Loved that picture, with the roads at odd angles and the iconic CITGO sign looming over the busy highway...!

Oh, and that close up of the Old State House! I got a rush of fond memories from SC3K, where the Old State House and the Faneuil Hall were landmarks included in the game.

@tariely Thanks for the nice words, glad you enjoyed the pics! *:)

@TekindusT Thank you for the comment! I was wondering if anyone would notice the Citgo sign, if I was gonna do a Fenway scene then I simply had to include it *;) Speaking of SC3K, I think my interest in Boston most likely began there - that 3x3 landmark trifecta of the Old State House, Old North Church, and Faneuil Hall were always staples in my SC3000 cities back in the day. I even have a few cites (and city recreations) left over from my days on SC3KU.. maybe I'll have to do an old school update one of these days *;)

@RobertLM78 I think so *:D Thanks for the comment!

That first photo is just an explosion of colors, very scenic indeed.

Crazy angle's in the stadium shot :boggle: even after all you've done just goes to show you still have a lot of creativity to express.

That Fenway pic is ridiculous... I mean, your stuff is always amazing, but you really outdid it this time.  *:thumb:*:thumb:

That Big Dig pic... I'm really digging it!

Old State House... Boy, do I NOT miss driving in Downtown Boston!!!  That white SUV is turning down the wrong way of a one-way road (Typical Mass - hole driver!) *.

@Takingyouthere Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the fall colors and gridbusting in that shot *:thumb:

@thecitiescenter Thank you for your kind comment! The traffic can get quite bad around the Old State House indeed *;)

@hammysonata Appreciate the nice words, I want to get to Philly eventually so we'll see.. *;)

I'm newbie at SC4, back to the 90's I was an advanced player of SC2000 (For those who never played, it was the first SimCity that allowed customized cities buildings). Then when SC3000 came I was already with my time compromissed with engineering studies (I'm graduated Mechanical Eng...), so, by 1 week I returned to play SimCity game and I read a lot of reviews and choosed SC4, Cities Skylines worth the play, I mean time to play?

@korver, First I want to know if the pictures where taken just with de SC4 game, did you (or the owner of the city) used another game for anyone of the pictures?

Then i wish to dowload the city and the region, is that possible? Is it at STEX?

Besides, excellent post and I became your follower.

See you around,

Edited13/05/2019: Ok, I searchead at another forum here, and I see how complex and big files are to import a city.

See you,

Finally, justice has been done to one of the great cities of the world!

The shot of the Old North Church is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen for the game, and my ideal of what I want to get the game to look like. Having spent years scouring exchanges looking for buildings that would be suitable in a Boston-type city, might I ask what the 1x2 brick corner building with the blue awnings is (it repeats, so I assume it isn't one of your custom works)?

I only wish I had gotten a BAT of the Cheers bar done in time for you to use it. ; ) Keep up the great work!

Fenway Park is probably the best urban scene you've ever created- so much diagonal and FA!

As a mass-transit enthusiast, I was very pleased to see you even managed to include the Yawkey MBTA commuter rail station, perfectly positioned on the other side of Brookline Ave... my preferred getaway from Fenway!  Your attention to detail always impresses.
