Prop Snapping - Game Changing Mod by BloodyPenguin

The newly released Mod by BloodyPenguin really excels your Cities: Skylines experience by allowing you to snap props to buildings and elevated roads - just like in asset editor!

Gotta agree Pugg. Bloody Penguin continues to amaze the community with his transformational mods. I recently started to play a "clean" vanilla game - going back to basics in order to remind myself of how it all began and found it to be a horribly restrictive and frustrating experience, abandoning it fairly quickly. Thanks to creative skilled  modders like BP the game has evolved to a whole new level.

Game-changing? It looks like I'm the only one who does not spend hours placing props and plopping growables...

Same here...

Well obviously the game is now used by artists more than players:D

Yeah I'm also not exactly seeing how "game changing" this is either, it's just enabling a function from the Asset Editor in the real game.

It's still very nice and interesting ! :thumb:

To be honest "game changing" would be something like a complete replacement of the AI allowing emergency vehicles to take over on the lane in opposite direction of travel, make airplanes behave more realistic and solve those "death waves" by people dying in hospitals and not at home all the time. That's just a nice cosmetic feature as many before already told.

This mod once again illustrates the divide in the player base between 'players' and 'painters.' I'm a painter. I just like to build and don't care about gameplay conventions. Letting the simulation run to watch the cims drive and walk around is about as much as I actually 'play' the game.

I obsess over the details, and mods like this allows for yet another aspect of that detail.

If you're a player rather than a painter, this mod won't matter, but if you're a painter, it really is pretty game-changing.

Nice little mod. I'd prefer a way for the computer to procedurally place props (affected by ordinances, energy conservation puts up solar panels and switches out bright signs for dim ones), especially if combined with deeper lots.

What would be truly game changing for City Painters, Aesthetic City Journalists, and graphics obsessed players would be the addition of an intermediate LOD. Cities (X)XL is without a doubt the most beauiful City Builder game, thanks in no small part to its high quality LODs (in addition to its tiny L4). All buildings in Cities: Skylines are like L1 (or L2 for simple/optimized assets) and L4 (or L3 for improperly made LODs), missing 2 LODs.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I really am starting to get sick of this ranting posts. What is wrong with people? People complain about realistic city simulation.. well go outside and play the real life challenge. Do you even know how hard it is to actually administrate a city? do you really think it's possible to put a game together in which you, a casual player will have the ability to go ahead and become a tax expert, a management expert or a law expert? how do you think the real life city is being managed? by someone clicking around?

If you want to have a realistic engine, dream on! it will never happen due to the fact that something like that would never sell!! Wake up! we are complaining about a genre that barely gets any attention from the gaming world, and you are asking to have it as messed up as possible just so you can then complain that the game is too hard? How many people in here are politics experts? how many people in here have a masters degree.. you know, so you can be a successful mayor and have a realistic experience..? Give me a break!

This is a game-changing mod in a way that the game is meant to be.. a GAME! if you don't like it, don't play it, or move on to a better game (which won't be happening probably for the next 5 years).. come on fellas.. keep it cool and enjoy.. if it's not too challenging, then find the challenge.. create something different, play in a different way.. try new things in the game..

The last thing we need here is a division among players.. what we need to do is find a way to work things out.. with mods. If they gave us the ability to change things around, then lets do it.. We have great modders in here, let's get there.. let's get together and work things out!

If anyone wants a challenge then they should play Banished on hard settings. There won't be any lack of real challenges. This game is hard due to the strong snowballing effect of things that go wrong: lack of materials causes the lack of instruments, that causes the lack of food and fuel produced, that causes the hunger and deseases, that causes the massive deathvawe, that causes the lack of materials even worse. One wrong move and your town will eventually die in a year or two while you just don't see the consequences of your wrong actions immidiately because this game is fully agent-based, and the reaction delay is inherent for this type of simulation. That's why this game is hard and that's why I appreciate CO that they make such scenario nearly impossible in CSL because in real life it's impossible anyway.

You should post this on the thread itself though.

Is it possible to place decals over buildings with this mod?

No. Decals and props that conform to the terrain (like fences or my pipes) can't be placed on buildings. It's the same as in the asset editor. To be fair it would be a mess anyways if props conforming to the terrain could be placed on buildings or raised from the ground in any other way. ;)

Could be good idea though, modders wouldn't have to deal with makin additional textures for rust, dirt etc. on buildings

If possible, it could be pretty interesting, since we could basically texture buildings (for example, I in particular want to cover the roofs and walls with more interesting things, like green roofs and stuff (going along with normal props being placed over them)). Of course, the mod (and by extension, this feature) should be togglable

I once tried making graffiti props because normal props can easily be placed on walls, like billboards. They did what I wanted them to do, however I gave it up because I didn't like fiddling with the alpha maps. But that's mainly because the graffitis I tried were pretty delicate. There Is a thread about making alpha maps for delicate textures somewhere around here, making a graffity prop with thicker lines or compact graphics would be much easier I think! You might want to try that.

If you haven't noticed Samsam TS released a prop precision mod which solves the prop grid misalignment thing.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=791221322

It's pretty crazy what we can do with props using mods now... prop line tool, prop snapping, prop precision, move it...

You can create a precise line with props now, then move them with move it, even change the height of props with move it!

You can put decals and props on elevated roads... sound barriers, cones, roadworks, car crash scene, highway signs, decals to put lines on intersections/merges/splits...

You can put some lights on a rail bridge, or anywhere on a building.

You could put blimps or air balloons in the air.

You can stack containers or anything you can think of.
