Any ideas, anyone?

Golly! That has to be frustrating. I've no idea at all how to help. Both @Cyclone Boom and I have Win 7 with updated Firefox and so cannot replicate the problem. I suppose you could try FF's safe mode to see it that might possibly help in case it's a conflict with an add-on.

Hopefully someone using XP will see this and be able to offer suggestions. Good luck.

So I haven't been super active here lately but I did notice my reputation points shoot up quite a bit recently. Were there any tweaks/adjustments made to the rep system? Or are people just going nuts with it these days? *

CB and I (and Dirk, ofc) are the only ones who could alter this and I haven't made any changes to your rep.

I went into our control panel just now and had it do a recount which checks every rep point you've gotten the normal way. That shows 9,023 and is 147 less than the 9,170 which you show as of this moment. During some of the challenges there were rep points assigned for (iirc) the top three spots and I presume that's where your extra 147 comes from. I did then manually set you back to 9,170 after having checked this.

Sorry if this has been asked, or asked and answered before, BUT I already spend way too much time on this site, and didn't want to search thru a gazilion un-related posts.

I have a WinXP-S3  machine, Java v8.11, and Firefox  v52.0. I cannot upgrade anything past those versions.

When I'm in Simtropolis 'Files' (or a post with sequential images), the (I assume) Java popup that allows one to scroll through those images is a problem FOR ME. I'm reasonably sure this is not a site problem, so I'm not looking for you to fix it, just asking if anyone has any ideas, short of upgrading my OS.

I use Linux Mint and the latest Firefox but one of the sites I regularly visit won't work in Firefox ... so I've installed a separate internet browser for just that site, not sure what your choices are with WinXP but it might be worth trying out another browser to see if the problem still exists

@catty-cb, thanx for the thought.

I already have 4 (!) browsers on this machine for different situations. If corporations were less concerned with having the 'latest, greatest' shiny gizmo, and more concerned with compatibility, and inter-operatability, noone would have these kinds of problems.

For ages now the Featured box has been broken, clicking one of the circles will register a click on the next circle to the right instead. For example, if I click on the first, it acts like I clicked the second and selects that one instead. Using Chrome on Windows 10 if that matters at all.

Do you have a browser addon which prevents popups? That one has two files and a selector box appears when clicking the Download button:

    Thanks for letting us know.

After performing the necessary template edits, I can confirm this should now be completely fixed. The problem was caused by how there was a variable causing a jump on each of those circle navigator buttons. This led to there effectively being an offset on them instead of each representing a 1-5 slot on the feature slider.

It's not a problem as such more an oddity than anything else .... over in my club (city-builders website) I'm splitting up the Linntown CJ and have noticed that while the entries and comments counters are changing the views counter now says 3430 people have viewed it which based on the current individual counts is way off  :???:  should be more like a 100

    @catty-cb

Oddly enough the counter on the index page of CJs is independent of the entries combined. This means it represents the number of views to that page separately, and isn't a total of all the entries inside added up. Logically this doesn't make sense, but I can confirm this is bizarrely what's happening.

If you'd like, I can manually update this total to match the total of your Linntown entries. This would then become offset again as views continue to accumulate. I'm happy to recalculate this for you though if you'd like (maybe once a month or so). Just let me know either way. *:)

Thanks for looking into this for me .... I've got two more entries in CJ that I'm going to be moving somewhere else then deleting them from Linntown .... when I'll do I'll let you know and if you could change the views counter that would be great .... at that point I'm happy for the views counter just to keep ticking over unless it gets really out whack again.

    Hi @Cyclone Boom

I've just got the zoom hack document to move, but looking at the views counter in the new journal which I only created a week ago

    https://community.simtropolis.com/journals/journal/5866-banished-game/

The five articles total views count is 30, the journal views total count is now 81 so am beginning to think that its a waste of time changing the views counter as its always going to be out of sync .... so thanks for the offer to change the Linntown counter but I think I'll just ignore it from now on.

    Hi catty,

Seeing as I enjoy finding any reasonable excuse to do useful things in the database, I've adjusted the views on both your Linntown and Banished CJs anyway. *;)

In case you (or anyone else) are curious, here's the SQL query I used to count all your entries:

    SELECT SUM(entry_views)
    FROM blog_entries
    WHERE entry_blog_id = 5785

(Then switching over the ID number accordingly.)

This gave the result for the combined entry views count as 744 for Linntown which I've now set to be. Then a total of 30 for Banished as you found. Given the index pages have a separate counter to the individual entries, it will indeed become increasingly out of sync again over time.

I thought to quickly fix it up this time though for you. And the offer still stands if ever you'd like me to do so again. *:)

Does anyone use the File Stream?

For me, sorting things based on "items only" and "items, comments, and reviews" produces no notable differences. Bug or user error?

Unfortunately I do believe this is a bug or an oversight in the item streams. It really does suggest how the "Content items" filter should only have actual STEX file entries shown, while keeping comments and reviews to the main feed. This is also beyond what I can investigate given it'd require custom integrated development.

We are a fair bit behind on the board software updates, so prospectively this will be resolved in the myriad of fixes and features IPS have added since. If not and we can report it as a bug and see whether it's feasible to be addressed in future.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

I just performed a cache reset from our admin tools in case that might've done the trick. Last time I reset the cache and that didn't seem to make one scrap of difference though, so I'm not totally convinced that's the solution. The issue might be related or similar to Messenger functionality issues I recall being noticed by some members occasionally, but it also doesn't appear to be a persistently constant reoccurrence either. Let us know should it happen again anyway, and thanks for the bug report.

It might be worth checking what browser people are using to access the site ... the reason I suggest it, is we are in the process of updating some software at work that runs thru a browser and the search functionally is now very dodgy and when we reported it to the software company they found the problem was browser related and its seems the problem goes from minor screen glitches in Firefox to software crashes in Internet explorer .... waiting for a software patch to arrive

The old www.sc4ever.com and www.sc3000.com sites are offline again ... am wondering given the problem early with lack of space just how much room these two sites take up on the server?

We are not absolutely certain, but are fairly sure those are on a different physical server. Dirk did reply to our message about the mini-crisis of yesterday and he will be looking into that soon. I've replied just now with a quote of your above message so he'll be aware of those site's status.

Having issues on both PC and Mobile. Cannot access mail inbox, it throws an error. Using contact us button leads to empty page.

Recently donated $55 for the 3 disk STEX collection set and not got a message or email re: physical media (my preference) or digital iso download so just verifying. Images below:

During the weekly backup, the site sometimes does goofy things like that. :O

It was in the critical load range earlier, but has dropped back down to just really, really busy:

    7010-2868.jpg

It might also need a cache purge. That usually fixes these little oddities. We can do that once the server load returns to normal (30-35%). I'll send you a PM too. The notification you'll get for that can sometimes straighten out the trouble.

And it that doesn't work, you can also use the Contact Cori option to send email. (Be sure to check your spam folder as they often wind up in there.)

Edit: The PM option is borked for me too. @Cyclone Boom will look into it when he arrives.

The way the reviews are setup currently, they require a rating to be specified which is a mandatory input field. At present there is no way around this.

For reporting technical issues on a file or just for a general reply in discussion, often the best way is to post as a comment instead of a review. Sometimes as admins we'll move reviews to comments which are deemed more suitable there instead, especially if they downrate the item concerned.
