Very nice timmetje! Very nice use of FAR and smooth curves!

It might not be well known, but it is possible to make diagonal avenue neighbour connections so you don’t have to have that top diagonal avenue turn orthogonally to connect to the neighbouring region. There’s a two part tutorial at SC4D, you can find part 1 here and part 2 here. Be sure to check out the rest of the thread because it has a bunch of other neat neighbour connections we didn’t think possible before.

Thanks for the tip, but that part actually lies on a corner so it is fine the way it is.

Here is another picture from a suburb of about 200000 inhabitants:

Beautiful although the small amount of non-w2w development in the upper right hand corner looks out of place.

The 'nice' side of Konradshöhe, Ciudad del Lago region. A german settlement in the east bank, full of suburbs, crossing the river is the biggest industrial park of the country, spaning by several municipalities. Most people in these suburbs do not work in the industries forementioned, but in the neighbouring CBD of Tegel, just 1,5 km across, by the highway.

From my development CJ. Not sure about the commercial lining all the avenue, makes the suburbs seems disjointed and isolated :/

the commercial lining is cool, just get rid of the midrise buidlings in favor of small shops, gas stations and strip malls

Riverdale, a new city of mine with a new update being typed up right now. Although these pictures are suburban they are fairly close to Downtown. To be honest, the only reason they aren't part of the downtown grid is because of a geographical feature that will be explained in the update.

While I agree it does make it look somewhat funky, I think commercial all the way looks fairly good. Just try a lower density and try to avoid repetition by making the buildings historical. I'd also like to advice you to use the FLEX curves for the aves, as they give you sidewalks.

There's some serious tree monotony going on around the country club, but otherwise the pic looks absolutely stunning! Love the progression/distribution of building heights and densities, and of course the integration of different zones such as the huge mall, the sports facilities, family homes, modern apartments, suburban mid-rise offices... great job! :)

Thanks for the kind words!

What I could do about the country club tree issue is relot everything, but I can't find myself having the patience for it. It's just going to have to remain this way for the time being. :)

I tend to agree - suburbs aren't all that easy, especially when you deal with slopes, and even more so if the buildings don't have custom foundations!

One idea for suburbs like this one, albeit not so much for this particular pic: At some points, stairs or MMP footpaths as a shortcut for pedestrians to get up/down a steep slope may look good. A very realistic example would be a place where a bus stop is located at a slope, the street needs to do a wide loop to climb the slope slowly, but there are some stairs so Sims living further up the hill can walk down to the bus stop quickly... stuff like that. :)

Are all these lots 1x1, or can you vary lot depth a bit?

@kingofsimcity That's a really good looking suburb. Congratulations! Which parks and park walls are you using?

I really like the combination of farmland and suburbs. I think gives a feeling of being out in the countryside, and away from the clutter and noise from the city-scape.
