Show Us Your Suburbs!!
By Khalsa Starr

I felt like creating a thread for those who have sprawling suburbs in their regions. Please give us a link or pic of your city's suburban areas and share your idea on how you design them.

My burbs...
These two pictures are part of a region entirely dedicated to suburban living, notice that all roads lead to the main highway, this is a small city and already the numbers of the highways have exceeded 5000 - think what it would be like on a large city!

All the houses are middle class and cookie cuter - just like in real life! It seems as if sims can be coaxed into going the only way possible to work, heh heh.
suburbs1.jpg

The more quieter suburbs have their own treed back yeards and are away from the downtown grinder. Isn't this the way to live??
suburbs2.jpg

I got my ideas from a city i built myself, kind of a crude comparison, however this pic shows the similarities between this and my simcity suburbs.

Wow that is a very impressive subruban area you have there. I don't have anything to show right now, but I will be curious to see what others have. That sketch of the suburbs is just amazing! Did you draw that yourself? What for? You could very likely have a good career in that area.

Just a note, your pictures are too big, please limit them to 800x600 pixels. Also, no need for manually typing in html codes, just use the ones provided.

EDIT: Woah, DT! I hope you will find a modder VERY soon, because those are wonderful!

I like these sorts of designs. Would anyone know where I could obtain some more maps (not RegionTerrainMaps), layouts, designs etc like this one depicted above? Those others on that site, for some reason not able to view them any bigger than thumbnail size, & my searching of here & the net hasn't resulted with much success. I've only managed to find but a handfew.

    Tropod,

    Try this site: https://web.archive.org/web/20061008234435/http://www.greenroofs.ca/nua/ip/ip02.htm

It has some useful diagrams and explanations of real world street layout.

There are a few more here too: https://web.archive.org/web/20051229055329/http://www.sactaqc.org/Resources/Literature/LandUse/urban_form_travel.htm

I work for the US Army. I go places, visit mean people, and kill them.

Winston Churchill is generall credited for saying something to the effect of: "People sleep soundly in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". That about sums up my life, besides the "rough men" part.

Some of the designs in those links I already use or similar. That info about the land usage stats is quite intriguing. Can't say I had ever bothered to sit down & look at it before, it's certainly very interesting. Thanks 2.gif.

Great suburbs everyone! I have a question: where do you get that modd that allows R$$ to gorw on a 1x1? Or is it not even a modd and an in-game thingy? I've been wondering that for a while...

It's not a mod. If you plot low residental areas like that, they may appear with $$ 1x1.
