Both Terran and Martian suburbs are awesome :thumb:

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

I do, although I must admit that it's not that frequent. But whenever I need some inspiration, I scroll through it; your building style really captures such a nice atmosphere that I also try to create.

Most of it is patient growing, bulldozing and then using the "Make Historical" feature when it goes right.

I decided to go Indonesian style......sort of!

Although it is not perfectly Indonesian (I'm Indonesian), it's good and reassemble closely enough. Are you from Indonesia too?

I never really thought about that. My obsession with suburbs is making sure everything looks very similair.

Here's a few other I found from the westside.

Alden-Mar241491379271519_zps72965a23.jpg

I'm definitely one for making sure there is sufficient parking, but MY LORD THAT'S A LOT OF PARKING!!!  :ooh:   Though I do understand that it was all built with anticipation of larger department stores buying out the surrounding area.

It's unfortunate that suburbs have become such cookie cutter towns just stamped out. No real architecture put into the development other than the landscaping. Most of the C/R buildings all look exactly the same.  :lost:

And I usually can't stand the Maxis bungalows, but for some reason they just work when used for suburbs. Even I have a small section of the bungalows used in an expanding rural area. Other than that though, you really don't see them around my regions, other than maybe the few sections I started building prior to installing a ton of plugins.

It's extremely clean and well put together. Nice job  :thumb:

That explains it, I just got the feeling when looking at some of the roads and also the perfectly symmetrical parking lots around the mall.

@infamousjbe, The further I get out from my city core, the larger I make my parking lots and shopping centers. In Houston there are ordinances that require buildings to have a minimum of a certain number based on how many people the building can safely hold. In restaraunts they usually have plaques that say "maximum occupancy 60" or so and they are supposed to have about 3/4 of that in parking. Alot of environmental activists are up in arms about that but the end result is easy to find parking and not many parking meters which is nice. If you look at suburbs from the 50s 60s and 70s they all once looked alike but now some have evolved into some very cool neighborhoods. It all depends on the way the city you live in works. Out here we aren't governed by any zoning whatsoever, as a result almost every single neighborhood has strict deed restrictions and an architectural control committee. There are some good respectable developers and builders out there that are doing some good work. I completely agree with the statement about bunglalows, I don't allow them anywhere in my inner city areas, they are strictly for suburbs only. Thanks!

@Lost Realist, I guess thats another ocd tick of mine. I probably belong on one of those silly reality tv shows.

I'd say that suburbs can become quite well-rounded neighborhoods given sufficient decades to mature; the most iconic neighborhoods in Houston (as well as the worst ghettos) were at one time cookie-cutter subdivisions. The architecture quality varies with the period. Suburbs from the 70's through early 90's tend to have the worst designs for commercial districts and public buildings, while those from the 50's or older, or from the late 2000s to the present day, tend to have more distinctive spaces and a better overall layout.

This is a nice switch up from my usual look alike suburbs. This neighborhood is actually an extremely affluent, older, inner city neighborhood that used to be considered suburban. However, it is still suburban in nature.

I tried to go for a dense Indonesian-style village look. I don't know if I manage pull this one though. I got the inspiration from the many hillside kampungs that dot the Javanese highlands.

The architecture and fauna seems very european to me, but then again, I've never been to Indonesia. :D The suburbs in general look great though, nice work.
