Wooden Crossroads Signs

crossroads-sign-akaa-finland-wooden-where-do-you-want-to-go-46105996.jpg.f74de67de517211b7be2fd20fc4e0fd2.jpg

Description:

I'm hoping for a 1x1 (or maybe even a few varieties of 1x1s) of a wooden crossroads sign. Something that you can plop in a forest or rural area to act as signposts for nearby towns or such. I'd like the signs to have some visible (but not legible) town names if possible, just so it looks like there are actually things written on the signs.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

I personally feel like this would add a lot to the community because there are many players who are getting into rural or western playstyles, and natural growth playstyles. These wooden signs would be a great addition to add flavor to such cities!

Thanks for your consideration! *

EDIT: The more I think about this, I think perhaps MMPs make more sense than 1x1, not sure I would leave that up to the experts if anyone picks this up. =p

This kind of inclined roof is common in some modern chilean buildings.

If you can convince someone to model suitable wooden signposts (maybe @Girafe :) ) I can help you with creating a mod to replace the maxis signs throughout the game (through an exemplar override) or on specific networks like SAM dirt roads ( a T21 mod ).

Hello again everyone, I'm back *!

I know I just made a BAT request for those Wooden Crossroads Signs (which I am most certainly still interested in), but I was feeling greedy (*:ohyes:), and just thought hey why not also post my longshot dream lot..... which would be the Book Tower in Detroit, MI. This is my all-time favorite building in Detroit (where I'm from and live), built in an Italian Renaissance style (with some Art Deco vibes as well). The Book Tower was completed in 1926, and for 2 years was the tallest building in the city; unfortunately over the course of many decades it fell into decline. :( However! In 2015, it was purchased by a Detroit bigshot, and it's currently under renovations to restore its former glory. Part of these renovations will include residential spaces, and it's long been a dream of mine to live in this building one day.

Description:

Oh oops, I suppose my description was first! I just love this building, and always have since I first saw it as a child.

Wikipedia link on Book Tower: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_Tower

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

I'll be honest, this is more of a selfish request from me, since it's my favorite Detroit building, and just a dream residence of mine one day. However, I would argue that it adds to the community by providing more majestic looking older buildings in the Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque, or Italian Renaissance styles. I've seen some other Detroit buildings crafted by @Jasoncw, such as the Penobscot Building and the Guardian Building (both fabulous as well!), so I figured the Book Tower would be a great addition to the iconic Detroit buildings.

I hope you all like the pics, and can momentarily share in my appreciation of this storied building.

Directed here from (Mod) Roberta's Power Grid Development Thread.

I don't want to re-post everything I put there, so please anyone interested in helping me breath some life into SC4's power grid, take a look at this post I made there.

Put simply, I'm looking for someone with more art talent than me, (which would mean ANY!) who can put together 5 lots with some small transformers on them. (example pics linked above) Nothing HUGE like the few we have... these are all 1 to 2.5 meters tall at most... the green ones you can find around your neighborhood most places in the world.

Two lots would be Transit enabled Street plopables with little green boxes either on the sidewalk (either that or a power pole with a transformer at the top) or even better maybe slightly overhanging into the adjacent lot. (which would always be a park or some such as TE lots can't provide road access for growables) Two more would be 1x1 lots with a tiny transformer or pole and the rest either clear or maybe some bushes to fill the void. The last should be 1x2 and have the largest 6 mva transformer in the middle with a sort of Industrial vibe to it.

Otherwise I'm going to have to inflict my art skills on the world at large when I release my mod... and nobody wants that! ;^)

Thank you in advance for any help offered!

@DaerisBeing a major building it's been on our radar, attracting nofunk's attention in particular. I don't anticipate it being made though, since for me out of the major buildings I have higher priorities, and because the building has a weird lot size of 4.5x2. And the BAT wouldn't be able to get started until the building was done being renovated, because we don't know what the building will end up looking like. We've been completely shocked at how different the building looks after being cleaned, and the building may continue to look different depending on what they do with the copper parts and what happens with the fire escape. There's a public document though, and it includes drawings of the building with dimensions and I saved it in case we ever do it.

@Jasoncw Yeah I figured it would be a longshot, but if it ever makes it into SimCity 4 one day, I'd just consider that bonus. I appreciate you and @nofunk creating the buildings you do (especially the Detroit ones since it's my hometown!), and look forward to more. Are you working on any others from Detroit in particular (or is it a surprise)?

    Chile Arch.jpg

This buildings' shapes have an interesting backstory: originally, the neighbourhood on which they were built was a low density residential area, with rich and relatively big houses. Starting on the 1970s, developers bought the lots and tried to increase the density with condos, but the neighbours didn't want it and demanded more restrictive rules to the local government, which opted for a rule that purposedly would allow a sane equilibrium: restricing the built volume with planes drawn from the sides of the neighbouring houses, thereby allowing sunlight to arrive at the lowest buildings' windows, at least around noon (as that had been the main argument of the historic neighbours).

The developers complied with the rule by profiting of every cubic centimetre it allowed them, designing condos with sloped sides and huge mansards, which became known as "lustrines" for their shape, akin to a shoe-polishing box:

    Spoiler

    image.png.1cce5078cf8f4da6b92925ab94ddb0c3.png

Of course, the size of the lots was a hard limit for this projects, and as time passed and the densification of the city advanced, they were dwarfed by much less restricted residential towers, and after, commercial buildings lining the closest boulevards. They stand as a testimony of a transitional period, when high-rise housing wasn't still massive and the people affected by densification had enough power to impose rules for development; currently, an even more unregulated housing market prevails, resulting in buildings like this:

What is worrying me right now is that I also loved these buildings in Chile and they are very tempting

I love Scotland. I love Scottish whisky, Scottish salmon and Scottish biscuits. And some Scottish buildings are really nice too. Especially in Princes Street in Edinburgh. It is the city's main shopping area. Some of the buildings there are ... let's say interesting. And some of them are really nice, true beauties. A very nice corner building is 30 Princes Street. It is (or was) owned by Arcadia Group, known for their TOPSHOP and TOPMAN shops (and a few more). The building, in my view, is quite typical for the old business houses in that street, especially with the dark sandstone facade you can find all over the city. The facade has a lot of nice details like the heads that are looking down from the roof. I think it would make a nice addition to the game - and younger Sims would probably be happy to have one more affordable retailer in their city ... *;)

I hope you all had a good Christmas time. I wish you a good start into the new year!

A few weeks ago I posted this request. This morning I had to learn that TOPSHOP/TOPMAN will no longer be standalone brands, since they will be part of the online retailer ASOS. It looks like all shops will close. :( It's not the only loss to our inner cities - Debenhams' department stores will not reopen as well. And it is very likely that others will follow. The pandemic hits our real-life inner cities hard, which is something I have been concerned about since the first lockdowns last spring. The question really is what our cities will look like after all of this is over. Retail is very important to keep our citiy centers alive. A lot of my requests are retail buildings and certain brands because of that. I usually would not repost a request here. But I somehow find the current development and its long-term effects really sad. Maybe one of our amazing BATters sees this and also thinks that TOPSHOP/TOPMAN should survive in our game (I know there are other brands that provide garments of higher quality, but affordability is important too). And apart from that: The building is really nice ... *:D

    America Classic Iron bridges !

    6877553394_77ff9482d1.jpg

NAM got as above some nice dragable bridges and some Eye candy Bat´s are available but I am looking for those classical american iron bridges you see on the old highways, specialy route 66 !

    U.S.-Bridge-Thru-Truss-2.jpg

Eye candy or functional ? This type I would lover to see at least as a Eye candy but specialy usable to make those crossings over MMP´s creeks, so plopable with a sngle or double arch !

    Colorado_river_bridge_at_bastrop_2006.jp

Would love some of those above created for the shorter rivers and creeks !

Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Clackamas County, Oregon

Built in 1936 - 1938, this iconic building served as as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in the Stanley Kubrik's film The Shining (1980)

I think this would be great as an overhanging lot to use a Hotel Resort reward, to put close to hilly terrains or mountains.

    Hotel New York, Rotterdam.

    640px-02_Hotel_New_York_-_Rotterdam.jpg

Built on the Wilhelminapier between 1901 and 1917 to house the offices of the Holland America Line. This shipping company played a major role in the immigration of Europeans to North America, carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers over the years. Its trans-Atlantic service ended in the early 1970's with the rise of cheap air travel and Holland America Line has been a subsidiary of Carnival Cruises since 1989. The building followed the decline of the company. It became derelict in the 1980's and was finally revived as a four star hotel in 1993.

The Farine five roses building with its giant neon sign is one of Montreal most recognizable icon building. There are a few similar bat from other cities that have been done already like the Marcszar domino sugar plant from Baltimore. This kind of building really adds character to a city industrial zone and it really fits nicely near a port.  If someone is ready to take on this challenge I would download this bat for sure. *:8)

    Tokyo Shibuya Ekimae Building

    Description:

This is a miscellaneous building located at the scramble crossing in front of Shibuya station in Tokyo.
This unique building is a set of "Shibuya Ekimae Building" and "Daigai Building".
These two buildings have LED advertisements on their rooftops and appear to shine at night.

Such buildings are necessary to recreate the downtown area of Tokyo, and since there are only a few diverse and unique miscellaneous buildings, I believe they will be welcomed by many players.

Hi, I'm a new user here and I was very fascinated of Atlantic City's buildings but unfortunately i can't find any of them in Simtropolis nor on SC4Devotion and i can't create any models on B.A.T. I'm not asking for all Atlantic City's buildings, only a few like Boardwalk Hall, Showboat Atlantic City, Bally's Atlantic City, and The Claridge Hotel. So can someone can create at least one of them, thanks!

Hi @SC4Fanatic2004 and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

No worries, and I've moved your post to here inside the dedicated thread for BAT requests.

I don't follow personally since BATs aren't my area of expertise (heck, I could only do a standard cube or the teapot!), but it might be worth using the option on the top right of the page above for following this thread. That way you'll be notified of new replies if anyone posts back in response. *;)

Yes, of course. There are many on the STEX already, from simple modified versions of existing buildings, others that never got built in reality, to completely fantastic or futuristic creations, either following an stablished story or spawning directly from the imagination of the creator.
