Hi, just an little introduction, I am Indonesian, former SC4 player for some 7 years, and now managing a blog about architecture history in Indonesia. This is my first posting, and apologize for poor English.

It is strange to hear that someone who no longer play SC4 is asking a building request, but as an Indonesian, I feel buildings built in Indonesia are still underrepresented on any city-building games community, either SC4 or C:S, with Wisma 46 or newer, glass-clad buildings from newer era (or slums, houses and Dutch buildings) are represented properly mostly in C:S and made by Indonesian BATters. Previous BATter did Monas, Menara Batavia and Menara Mulia so they are not in my request list right now. And I am do not have own skill to BAT the building.

So, my request start from overlooked high-rises in Jakarta. Pardon for using my own image, outside you instead get watermarked ones.

Wisma Bumiputera

Wisma Bumiputera

This is Wisma Bumiputera, a rather mundane 22-story, 90 metres office building built in prestigious Jakarta business thoroughfare Jalan Jend. Sudirman. The architects are never been a star: Timothy Seow from Singapore in association with local firm Encona Engineering. It completed in 1985. It is head office of Indonesia's last mutual insurance company Bumiputera 1912 before goes bust just some three years ago. (sourced from my blog)

What benefit the community: Wisma Bumiputera can go into useful skyline-filler for Euro or Houston tiles (regardless of urban or suburban setting), the tilesize might be mid-density 3x3 or 2x2 and fit for either high-wealth or medium-wealth office.

I hope, this request is not just for SC4 BATters, but C:S BATters too, as shorter Indonesians skyscraper need at least some love.

Question: How does the BAT request thread works?

Post an idea for a BAT, ideally with a few photos and an address for reference. Then keep your fingers crossed and hope someone decides to do a BAT with your idea. There aren't many BATters and they're often working on multiple projects at once.

Okay, I hope that someone recreate Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, Nickelodeon Studios, and the other buildings that i mention in BAT soon.

May i ask what the appropriate etiquette is for when your request goes unnoticed?   I suspect this happens more often than not, but I feel like the buildings I requested really are significant.

Also - to anyone reading this who might know - and because it's looking like it might come to it - where should one visit to learn how to BAT from beginning to end for the complete noob.  I might just roll up my sleeves and do it myself.

Thanks for reading :)

Hi @Bobelboy, thanks for the appreciation. I still have many fresh idea still deep buried in my Flickr or blog gallery..... for example, Paul Rudolph's iconic Intiland Tower a.k.a. Wisma Dharmala Sakti (this is the hard ones) or eighties to nineties Rasuna Said, Semarang or Surabaya middle-rise buildings, which are suitable for anycity suburbs. With BATters preference to make buildings from their own project than coming here to look for a decent building to be made (Indonesian modder on Cities: Skylines even apparently ignore those smaller building in favour of taller glass-boxes that pumped their pride), I may seldom post additional ideas here.

And your request on Berlin buildings are quite good for every cities with wall-to-wall setting. Especially office. Pretty sure that small-size museum (1x2) also need special attention, as most museum are still dominated by big lots - I think.

@RobertLM78, if the request got unnoticed, I prefer don't push it too hard - just hope somebody visit this thread, browse back many pages, got the idea, and realise our requests. edit: for BAT tutorial, see the answer above me.

RL situation don't allow me to learn BAT myself :(.

OK so I'd really love it if some valiant BATter made any of the following Victorian row houses. I'm a big fan of row houses because:

1) they are small, thus take not too long to make and are easy on the hard drive

2) they make it possible to fill up streets with repetitions of just one building, and look great

3) they are generally slope-friendly

@mattb325, @gascooker and others have graced us with many row gems, but you know that to build a realistic city more variety is needed. The ones I link below are just examples, as there are countless types and variations of 19th century terraces. If you guys have any questions or require additional details feel free to message me. One thing I would suggest is to make the houses only, without the front yard walls, so that they can be later customised. Hope to see some of these on the STEX!

@okas155, I am looking forward to see you drop more suggestions in this thread. Good architecture can never be wrong for these games. Although it is exciting to go to the neighbour quarters and discover nice buildings, I very much enjoy to see more from other parts of the world.

Please let me suggest a distinctive symbol for Tokyo.

San-ai Dream Center

sanai01.jpg.bb5bf2a2c7a1e2bbfff3c6bc5f6853a5.jpg

This distinctive cylindrical building is located in Ginza, Tokyo.
The building was constructed by the founder of Ricoh in 1946, just after the end of the war.
The world-famous manufacturer of cameras and printers began its history in this building.
The nine-story building is located at the corner of an intersection.
On the other side is the Hattori Clock Shop building, the most famous building in Ginza.

The night view is beautifully lit, and the Ricoh sign has a strong presence.

What benefit the community

This distinctive, cylindrical corner building will brighten up your street corner.

OK, in a 16m tile you typically have 2 houses, with one being the mirror of the other. Can you mirror the house on the left so the two doors will be next to each other?

COLLABORATION REQUEST:

Looking for lotting help on a project that I'll be doing the modelling for.

Postwar Garden Apartments (click to see a massive list)

Looking to recreate this ubiquitous style of American postwar development in game.

The complexes come in many shapes, sizes, colors, layouts and densities, but you know them when you see them.

They're notable because their entrances, typically private, face planted green courtyards with lots/garage parking in the rear, as opposed to the more auto-centric standards of the latter half of the last century.

Many units that were built to this style during that period still remain occupied, in various conditions. They are all over the continental US--small towns, cities, military bases. Basically everywhere that was poppin in 1950. I hope to capture the diverse stylistic and socioeconomic range of these developments in my modelling.

I'd love some help lotting these! Particularly arranging them into growable ortho lots with trees and props. I can handle diag/FAR pieces, but I have never used a prop before. So guidance and suggestions for trees, lights, cars, parking textures..... and here comes the peanut gallery lol. But being that these are pervasive in our cities and towns I really want to do them justice.

They'd also be a great transition in game from low to medium density residential (across all wealth levels) and would be an easy way to develop land quickly. (just like irl!)

Let me know if you'd be interested in collaborating! or just message to bounce ideas around. let's make stuff!

Totally agree.

----------------------

Back again to some totally-unknown-and-same-boring-buildings in my home country, home to numerous SME, law firms and dubious companies with some cheap rental space, for anyone who want "fillers" or quick BAT for Euro-Contemporary and Houston tilesets. Edit: Freely to fictionalize those two building's name!

Gedung Yarnati, Jakarta (location)

Gedung Yarnati

Moratelindo, Jakarta (location)

Moratelindo

For this one, a bit of creativity needed for the back part of the building, as it is hard to see this part from public street. My thought is the building can be placed inside wall-to-wall neighbourhoods or in the sparse suburbs.

--

Or, if you want some challenge and big name buildings, I suggest Wisma Dharmala Sakti, or now Intiland Tower, designed by Paul Rudolph and built between 1983-1987. It is landmark of Jakarta's business district and excellent example of modern tropical architecture. (location)
