About This File

Dallas Apartments, by Mattb325.
---------------------------------------

Dallas Apartments are a fictional building made as an homage to the 1980s.

Sixteen floors high, the design is based one of the 1980's favourite design shapes: the octagon. These are seen at the corners of all of the balconies.

In many parts of the world, the 1980s saw a resurgence of apartment building, and developers were keeen to tempt buyers away from homes in the suburbs. As a result, apartments of this era often had decently sized floorplans. Add things like crazy paving, a large communal sun-terrace and roof gardens, fifth floor gymnasium and residents lounge, kidney-shaped pool and underground parking make this a comfortable alternative to houses.

The lot size is 5x5. To get these to grow, use the CTRL key while zoning medium or high density.

Like all of my work, these are suited to both CAM and non CAM cities alike.

This is the Temperate-themed version. A tropically-themed version is available separately. Both temperate and tropical lots can be used at the same time, if you wish.

After the economic doldrums of the 1970s, for much of the world the 1980s were a time for decadence - an era that flaunted luxury and claimed opulence, though it was just as often gaudy as it was tasteful.

Architecturally, postmodernism was coming into popularity. In the early 1980s, it was more simplified in shape, often blockier and chunkier. Architects were still transitioning from the dull boxes of the 1970s, and had yet to develop the more elegant designs of the later 1980s and early 1990s.

Matt has captured that wonderfully with the rare 5x5 residential tower here - aptly named the "Dallas Apartments". The American city of Dallas, Texas boomed in the early 1980s, right when a design like this was in fashion. (An oil glut in 1985-87 brought its swelling skyline to a sudden pause that would last for years.)

Lushly vegetated, sumptuously detailed with period-correct design, and tastefully textured, this is a delight to the urban core of many a city, and brings a taste of the 1980s to any skyline. Thank you so much Matt. 5/5!

Sweet looking urban apartment and the lot size is a bonus for me. Can't seem to find enough residential that is 5x5 and not high wealth. Thank you

Another excellent addition to your line of apartment buildings. Particularly fond of the tiling on the pool. Must be some low ceilings in the units underneath. *;)

Splendid.  I love the diversity of angles --real and faux. Gives character to the urban landscape despite the grid.
