About This File
Tired of waiting for your cities to grow? Cheetah-mode still not fast enough? Not anymore!
In a society of instant-gratification, we don't have time for many things, including waiting for entire cities to grow! With this mod, you can speed up the process significantly! This mod allows you to run Sim-City 4 even faster than Cheetah-mode, in fact as much as 8X cheetah mode! This mod was made after searching for months through the SimCity_1.Dat file, where I found a bunch of settings that control the simulation-speed! Turns out it seems the developers had planned on making the simulation with even faster than cheetah options but may have disabled it since there was a lot of bugs or instability. Today however, most computers are a lot better than back in 2003 and should handle the game much better!
There are three options, 2X, 4X, or 8X cheetah mode speed!
How to install:
- Click on the "Readme!" file for more instructions.
- Simply copy ONLY one of the .Dat files (2X, 4X, or 8X) to your Plugins folder
- Copy the Speed.DLL file into your plugins folder too
- If you use 4X or 8X, then install "Stabilizer.Dat" to make the game more stable.
- Afterwards all you have to do is disable the advisors through the game settings, then double-click the cheetah-mode speed to make the game go whichever speed you installed! (2X, 4X, or 8X)
- No dependencies needed! Always back up your regions!!!
Here's a video of me using the mod. First part of the video I use 2X cheetah super-speed. At the end I test out 8X Cheetah super-speed in a small map:
Troubleshooting:
Note that the sound bugs out a bit during the super speed but don't worry it's perfectly normal. BACKUP YOUR CITIES AND REGIONS!! I'm not responsible for any damage to your cities from super-speed!
Also if you have any trouble running the mod, simply right-click on any of the .DAT Files and select "Open with" and choose "Note-Pad." From there there are several settings you can choose to make it work however you like! Take your time and scroll through it all. There are easter eggs in them too as well as more game settings especially in the "Stabilizer.dat"
If you have any more issues please read the "Troubleshooting info.txt" file for more information!
After testing the mod for many months in a secret beta here, I was able to iron out most bugs and put their fix in a "stabilizer" file. Despite that however, there are still some bugs.
List of Some Known Small Bugs and tips: (SS stands for Super-Speed). Click on spoiler for more info.
- Sims may have some trouble finding their way home
- Sound and music speeds up with the super-speed
- Advisors are unclickeable at 8X speed
- Large cities will slow down a lot (Tip: Go to underground view or subway/water pipe view then activate the SS. Should run smoother)
- Double-clicking during disasters such as fires may crash the game
- Always go back to normal speed before saving or exiting to region. Game crashes about 90% of the time if you save or exit.
- Day/Night cycle runs normally but rush-hour can get pretty chaotic especially at 4X/8X speed, and cars may crash into other sim's homes and shops. Be wary of that!
- Make sure your mass transport system is good!! Trains can be derailed around 8X, and monorails will fly off the track on sharp corners! Make those turns nice and smooth!
- Games crashes about 20% of the time at 8X speed! Save often!
- Taking screenshots at SS will crash game every time. Not sure how to fix that.
- Taking pictures with iPhone/Android camera will crash both the camera and the game.
- Steam version works but crashes about 48% of the time.
- Only use 4X or 8X to watch cities grow. Playing during those speeds can cause the game to crash from clicking buttons in the interface.
- Clicking on UDI mission in any SS will crash the game. Slow the game down first!
- Driving a car in real life during SS can crash the game too. Always make sure you slow the simulation back down, save and exit the game before leaving your house.
- May cause minor anxiety
Warning:
- According to some members on here that tested this, this mod can cause severely warped time perception. Time will feel much slower in real life using this mod. If that happens, just take the mod out of your plugins folder.
- Recommended specs for 8X speed based on testing:
i7-9700K or better CPU
32 GB RAM (Though 64 GB is preferred)
GTX 1080 or better graphics card.
If your pc does not meet those specs than this then use the 2X or 4X SS. Those should work fine on any PC. Otherwise use 8X SS at your own risk. (There's a reason I only used a small map in the video for 8X ss. Be careful!)
- Software mode can fix some issues at 8X SS too
- If your city has any skyscrapers and you use 8X SS, be wary of airports. NEVER PLACE YOUR AIRPORTS IN OR NEAR A DOWNTOWN AREA! Those planes will be flying so fast they will become missiles, especially at 8X and will crash into every building and burn your cities down! (This has happened on multiple occasions.) Sim Pilots need time to see the runway and land properly, the simulation isn't designed for them to be that fast. Be considerate of your sims and their buildings.
- Saving and Exiting to region/desktop without slowing down during any of the super-speeds may corrupt your entire hard drive and even brick your bios. If any of that happens just remove the .Dat files from your plugins folder.
This corruption issue is likely that the hard drive can have trouble writing all the data fast enough so it gives up. SSDs have trouble too, and I even fried one of my NVME SSDs with this mod and nearly took out the rest of my system. Be Careful!
